• Backstory: Though his heritage suggests a more Nordic origin, Gunnar was born in the rural American south. A charmer even at a young age, Gunnar was a good child that showed an enthusiastic curiosity about the world around him. This led to an event where, in his young childhood, he wound up missing for several days. Having wandered off on a childish adventure into the wilderness, he found himself crossing the hedge into the realm of the fey by complete accident.

A Seelie huntsman found him and, being impressed by the child's adventurous but kind spirit, guided him back to the realm of mortals. But the experience, and having consumed a peach given to him by the huntsman, left a piece of the fey within Gunnar. His eyes turned gold and sparkled with a curious light, while he grew significantly larger and taller as he aged. Soon he discovered his curious fey powers that linked him to the power of Spring.

As he grew up, Gunnar found himself interested in using his talent for good. He studied to become a paramedic, though in his spare time he also did some amateur power-lifting as a hobby. Yet he always remained humble, speaking to everyone with that charming Southern drawl to ensure them that he was the one honored to make their acquaintance.

Eventually Gunnar wanted to better understand the magic within him. He left his home of Oakgrove in America and traveled to The Reach after contacting Seoirse, a mage at the Mystic Halls who offered to teach him. Once there, Gunnar joined the Reach Fire Department as a paramedic providing emergency medical services, ready to aid his new home without a second thought.

• Other: Gunnar is a Changeling, one who has been to the realm of the fey and came back as partially fey himself. He is connected to the season of Spring, giving him powers related to growth and life. This has not only made him extremely tall and burly, but has given him magic capable of healing, purging toxins, and soothing mental distress. Side-effects are sometimes created when he utilizes his magic, such as causing plants around him to grow, creating a warm Spring breeze, or creating the smell of springtime flowers.

Being partially fey, he finds cold-forged iron to be very uncomfortable to touch, and it blocks his magic. Similarly, his magic doesn't interface well with typical magi-tek devices. He also avoids drinking alcohol or using any mind-altering drugs, both because of the health impacts but also because they can cause his magic to become very unpredictable.

Though not a doctor, he has a good knowledge of both biology and medicine, and is very good at his job as a paramedic. He also is no scholar on the subject, but his connection to the fey has led him to be relatively knowledgeable concerning faerie lore.

A gentle giant and sometimes coming off as a bit simple due to his manner of speaking, he's actually quite intelligent, particularly around his areas of interest and how people think and feel.

• Relationships: Gunnar was hired by the Dalmatian Chief Bigsby as a paramedic providing EMS through the Reach Fire Department. He is grateful for the position and respects the chief's authority. Bigsby assigned him alongside Rove, a certified EMT and paramedic student, believing the two can learn from one another.

The elk Seoirse is teaching Gunnar how to better utilize his fey magic, which provides Gunnar a connection to the Mystic Halls. Gunnar thinks Seoirse is a little unusual and is at least a little aware that Seoirse is connected to the Unseelie rather than the Seelie, but has no reason to distrust him.

Gunnar knows the golden retriever Dr. Ethan Brown, often passing patients off to the doctor. He genuinely likes and respects the doctor, and trusts his judgment in medical scenarios in the cases that he's not certain.

Fairly frequently Gunnar visits the hippo Urmie at Bottom's Up Kitchen. He enjoys Urmie's cinnamon rolls, though he's starting to suspect that the hippo is trying to fatten him up intentionally.
