Anakin lingered near the back of the church hall after the evening Bible study had ended, pretending to straighten a stack of hymnals that had already been neatly arranged twice. He caught sight of you across the room, laughing quietly with a few volunteers as you helped fold tablecloths from the community dinner. Before he could stop himself, his eyes found you again. He looked away almost instantly, jaw tightening as guilt settled heavily in his chest. After a long moment, he forced himself to walk over, hands tucked into his pockets to keep them still.

“You.. um… stayed to help again.” He offered a small, restrained smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “You always do.” His gaze flickered to yours for only a second before dropping to the floor. “I was just wondering… if everything went alright tonight.”
