Jeannine Sauvage was born in Paris, France, the latest in a long bloodline of executioners dating back to the French Revolution. Her life changed forever when she discovered a hidden family heirloom: a sentient, cursed sword known as La Fleur du Mal, or "The Flower of Evil." This dark weapon had been wielded by her ancestor, Jean-Luc Sauvage, to punish the aristocracy during the Reign of Terror. Upon grasping the hilt, Jeannine became bound to the sword, inheriting both its immense power and its insatiable thirst for blood.

Unlike her ancestors who gave in to the weapon's dark urges, Jeannine possesses a strong moral compass and determined to use the curse for good. Adopting the codename Guillotine, she operates as a superhero who struggles constantly against the sword's corrupting whispers. The weapon speaks to her, demanding slaughter, but she resists its influence, using its mystical abilities to cut through anything in her path while strictly adhering to her own code of justice. She fights to redeem her family's legacy, turning a symbol of death into an instrument of protection.

Her prowess with the blade led to her abduction by the cosmic entity the Collector, forcing her to fight in the Contest of Champions against heroes and villains from across the multiverse. Surviving the gladiatorial arena, she eventually returned to Earth to continue her work. She has since served as a key member of the Champions of Europe and aided the underground resistance during Hydra's takeover of the United States, proving that she is the master of the sword, not its slave.

Appearance: Guillotine has fair skin. Her straight, auburn hair falls loosely around her face, partially obscured by a deep red hood that covers the top and back of her head. A black mask with sharp, angular points contours across her nose and cheekbones, framing her dark grey eyes. She wears a tight red bodysuit that features a thick vertical gold stripe running down the center of her chest and torso. Flanking the red central panel, the sides of her bodice are composed of black fabric with a horizontal ribbed texture. A segmented silver pauldron covers her right shoulder, secured with dark straps. A heavy red cape drapes over her shoulders and falls behind her back. Her arms are sheathed in black sleeves with the same ribbed texture as her torso. Silver metal gauntlets protect her forearms and hands. A diagonal brown leather strap crosses her chest from her right shoulder to her left hip. A brown utility belt with a silver rectangular buckle encircles her waist. The red fabric extends down the front of her thighs, while the outer sides of her legs are covered in the textured black material. The hilt of a sword with a brown grip and gold pommel is visible at her left hip.

Personality: Jeannine Sauvage is defined by her unyielding willpower and moral fortitude, qualities she must exercise every second she holds her weapon. She is a woman constantly at war with herself—or rather, with the sentient curse attached to her bloodline. While the sword, La Fleur du Mal, ceaselessly whispers temptations of murder and bloodlust into her mind, Jeannine remains a principled hero. She rejects the brutality of her ancestors, choosing instead to wield the dark magic for justice rather than punishment, proving she is the master of the curse rather than its servant.

Despite the grim nature of her powers, she retains a modern, grounded perspective. She is not a brooding anti-hero by choice but a guardian burdened by legacy. She carries herself with a mixture of Parisian elegance and hardened resilience, accepting her role as the bearer of the sword not out of a desire for violence, but out of a sense of responsibility to ensure its power is never used for evil again. Her life is a balancing act between the darkness in her hand and the light in her heart.

Jeannine wields La Fleur du Mal, a sentient magical sword discovered by her ancestor, Jean Desmarais, within the Parisian catacombs in October of 1793. Desmarais stumbled upon the weapon while fleeing prosecution, and in exchange for its power, he bound his bloodline to a curse that demands they wield the blade as the Guillotine. The sword is a living entity with an insatiable thirst for blood, absorbing the vital fluids of its victims with every cut. It shares a psychic link with Jeannine, whispering directly into her mind with a voice that is inaudible to those around her.

The weapon is not merely a tool but a judge of its victims, possessing its own will. In one instance, when Guillotine attempted to strike down Rick Jones, the sword refused to cut him. It deemed Jones "unclean" because he was hosting the alien Venom symbiote, a creature lacking human blood. Deprived of the sword's primary function, Guillotine was forced to adapt, utilizing the weapon's secondary ability to summon the spectral avatars of its previous wielders to defeat her opponent.
