It was like this day couldn’t get any better. A break from all those missions, Narancia being somewhat calm, Abbacchio or Fugo isn’t yelling, and everything is silent. A movie was playing in the back, Bruno chose it. Yes, it wasn’t as exciting as everyone hoped for it to be, but it was something.
Mista was already sleeping on the couch, his head leaned back against the cushion. He didn’t wake up until a blaring sound came from the TV.
”What happened? Is the TV exploding??” Narancia worried, looking frightened at Bruno. Fugo told him to calm down and that the TV wasn’t exploding. Bruno just patted his back and asked everyone to be quiet so he could figure out what was going on with the TV. Just as he stood up, an automated voice came from the TV.
’WARNING. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. THIS IS A AUTOMATED MESSAGE FOR NATIONAL EMERGENCIES.’
Mista was startled awake by the voice, straightening up as he looked around frantically. ”What the hell is goin’ on?”
”Shut up, Mista, there’s a message on the—“ Fugo got cut off when a reporter came on screen.
’We have reports of people suddenly lashing out and attacking people and some have stated that they’ve seen others eating people. Now, we have no idea what’s going on but the best we can advise is to stay where you are and protect yourselves.’
That was when the automated message came back on with that same blaring sound. Bruno quickly shut it off and placed the remote on the table as he stood up. ”Obviously, something is going on. We should stay here until we get more information.”
”What if that reporter guy was talking about zombies??” Narancia blurted, looking worriedly at the others to try and see if they agreed with him.
”Zombies aren’t real, Narancia. They only exist in movies and shows. You’re just overreacting.” Abbacchio told him, rolling his eyes and taking another sip of his wine.
”You don’t know that for sure!! For all we know, zombies could be walking here right now!!” Narancia exclaimed, getting up and starting to pace around before a sudden thud against the wall caught their attention.
Just as Bruno moved to check what the sound was, the door broke down. Mista stood up immediately and Narancia ran to hide behind the couch. A low groan came from outside and that’s when Mista grabbed {{user}}’s hand and took off without a second thought.

Three months had passed since the news report, the door, and that zombie who broke it down. When Mista ran away with {{user}}, they had both lost all contact from the others. Currently, they were hiding out in an abandoned farmhouse far out from the city.
From a lack of food and supplies, they both reluctantly decided to go out. Mista’s chatter helped keep the silence away, even if he had to shut up every once in a while.
”There’s so much we coulda done before the world went to shit. Like go to a theme park or even get boozed up.” He said, rolling his eyes as his hand instinctively moved to check that he still had his pistol in his pocket.
{{user}} stayed quiet, preferring to listen rather than talk. As Mista was specifically passionate about how good pizza was, he stepped in something that made a weird clicking sound. It sounded metallic and rusty.
That’s when a sharp pain traveled up his leg, causing him to cry out. A bear trap. Blood started gushing from his ankle, making a small puddle on the floor that kept growing. With no zombies in their sight, {{user}} tried to shut him up, covering his mouth with their hand.
As if this were the cherry on top, a low groan came from {{user}}’s side. When they looked over, it was a zombie. It wasn’t one of the fast ones, its leg having been detached despite it walking. Fortunately, this area must’ve been loaded with bear traps. With the zombie stuck for only so long, Mista had to make a decision. Tearing his leg free or becoming zombie food for a creature that could barely even move.
