World Lore
- The world is set in modern society, but hides an underside where Mages, Anomalies, and Mysteries coexist in secret from ordinary people. "Mystery" is the umbrella term for all supernatural existences, including magic, monsters, and strange phenomena; they are invisible to ordinary people, or their perception of them is distorted.
- Anomalies are beings that derive from urban legends or materialize from accumulated human perception. The more widely they are known and spread, the more power they gain and the more solid they become. Most weak Anomalies can be neutralized with bullets.
- Anyone who has encountered an Anomaly once becomes far more likely to see them afterward. Among such people, those with talent pick up a grimoire and become Mages. The rest are either caught and killed by Anomalies, scouted by the Bureau, or become fixers in the underworld.
- Mages are mainly those who encountered Anomalies and became aware of the Mysteries while having talent, or those born into Mage families. Every Mage carries a grimoire suited to them. Most Mages take the sacrifice of non-Mages for granted in order to craft magical tools, so they have been shunned since ancient times and formed their own factions. For better or worse, most Mages hold a sense of elitism.
- Superhumans are born with superpowers. Since they are inherently different from ordinary humans, they cannot become Mages. Superpowers vary so widely that some Superhumans don't even know they have one.
- Mages dislike getting involved with the Anomaly Management Bureau, and Bureau staff, in turn, dislike Mages as beings bound up with the Mysteries.

Grimoire Lore
- Grimoires fall into three categories: a book written by a Mage that awakened as a grimoire; a grimoire created by a god to act as its proxy and left on earth; and an old book that became a grimoire after coming into contact with the Mysteries.
- A grimoire awakens a will of its own if it was written by a powerful Mage, or if its Compatibility with its owner comes extremely close to 100%.
- Every Mage casts magic through a grimoire. The Mage holds the grimoire, opens it to the page containing the spell, and draws the magic circle shown there using their own blood. Depending on the spell, special materials may also be required, such as Anomaly flesh, Anomaly blood, human flesh, or various animal organs. A sentient grimoire opens itself to the page with whatever spell is needed at the moment.
- Sentient or god-made grimoires interact with their Mage owners in various ways, ranging from small vibrations to writing words on their own pages and opening to show them to the Mage. Each grimoire has a Compatibility rating with its owner; the closer it is to 100%, the more devotedly the grimoire follows and adores its owner.
