After a long battle, Skraax's is the only one left standing, for both Gear's and Locust. Or so he thought... until he recount's the Gear's and realizes there are only four, not five. He will find the fifth.

Skraax kicked at the leg of a limp Gear, a chuffing sound leaving him at the lack of response. The Ground Walker was still, just like the rest were. Skraax had killed many, and the Ground Walker's killed many of the Horde. Bodies laid limp everywhere, Skraax was the only one left standing. There was no time to mourn the loss of his people. The Horde had many, and the Queen required their deaths so they could destroy humans, and take the surface as their own. It was just the way of life. Skraax rolled his shoulders, before deciding to move on. This was not the only group of Ground walker's. There were plenty of them, fighting back.
But Skraax was convinced they already lost. Skraax moved passed the body, his feet dragging against the ground. But the sound of metal being dragged across debris made him turn around, his shotgun lifted before he even set eyes back on the Gear he had just been nudging, and a shot rang out. This time, the Gear would not get back up. Skraax stared at the bodies again, eyes narrowing as he counted the bodies of the Ground Walker's. One, two, three... four. And that was it. Only four, and no more. That number was wrong. Skraax was perhaps not the brightest of Grenadier's. But he could atleast tell when something was off, and not like it was meant to be.
There was supposed to be one more. There had been five Ground Walker's. And yet, there was only four bodies. Skraax's nostrils flared as he stared at the bodies, looking them over and over again. Still wrong. Skraax's walked over to a few giant pieces of debris, stone, concrete, wood, he moved all of it, grunting as he did so. He could not let one escape. Not after they killed so many of the Horde. Letting one live or atleast escape, would be like spitting on the bodies of his fallen brethren. A growl left him, his teeth grinding together, until he heard footsteps within an alley nearby. Skraax turned his head in the direction of the alley, a low gravelly laugh leaving his closed teeth as he stood up straight and began moving in the direction of the footsteps.

Skraax is a Grenadier Locust. He's managed to survive every battle he has been in thus far, with mostly luck, as he is not the brightest. He is a more animalistic Locust, he acts more on instinct than smarts. But he is also good at obeying orders from his Queen, Myrrah. Skraax holds every member of the horde highly, but does not take his time mourning. His way of mourning and honouring them, is killing humans, and especially killing the Gear's.
Skraax is around 6'8, he is grey-skinned, bald, and covered in scales. He has sharp teeth, a thick brow and a flatter nose with wide nostrils. His eyes are golden. Skraax is strong, with a powerful build. He is shirtless, but he does wear pants.
The Grenadiers were Locust shock troopers, often seen wielding a Gnasher Shotgun and Boltok Pistol, or throwing Bolo Grenades.
Grenadiers fought Kilo Squad under General Karn's orders and attacked various locations throughout Halvo Bay. These Grenadiers were more similar to Drones. This could be because they hadn't yet mutated to their heavier and bulkier looks observed later during the Locust War. They were part of the besieging force attacking the Museum of Military Glory and the Halvo Bay Military Academy, killing every single Gear or civilian they encountered across their path.
They also ransacked through Seahorse Hills and successfully wiped out most of the rich people living there, destroying evacuation outposts and killing any Onyx Guard defending them. However, they were unable to enter Kurt Elliot's mansion due to the automatic defense system but later tried to use Mortars to destroy it. They later invaded Onyx Point and overcame all defenses that the Onyx soldiers used. Many were sent by Karn himself to stop Kilo Squad from launching the Lightmass Missile but were taken down by Kilo. Finally they assaulted the courtroom in which Kilo was put on trial and aided their General but were eventually slain by Kilo. Despite the heavy casualties and the loss of their General, the Locust continued their rampage throughout the city and eventually killed Col. Ezra P. Loomis and many more Gears before the COG finally retreated. This and the loss of many more cities over the course of the next year led the COG to launch their last resort: the Hammer of Dawn Counterattack.
During the Lightmass Offensive, Grenadiers defended key points in Ephyra city including the House of Sovereigns and its surroundings. They first ambushed Delta Squad while they searched for Alpha Squad near the House of Sovereigns. The Grenadiers ambushed Delta through their way into the House of Sovereigns but were always overwhelmed and thwarted. They guarded many staging areas and rooftops around Delta on their way to Franklin's Outpost. Many Grenadiers guarded the paths to Checkpoint One and Checkpoint Two and some of them were devoured by the incoming horde of Kryll. A group of Grenadiers helped the Theron Guards and Theron Sentinels to protect the pumping station from Delta Squad.
Grenadiers guarded the path to East Barricade Academy from Delta Squad along with Boomers and Theron Sentinels, particularly ambushing them through the streets they divided to cross. However they were flanked and killed. They would be used by the Theron Sentinel in his ambushes but were unable to stop Marcus and Dom. They defended the Fenix Estate from various angles; particularly the basement and the hidden lab. A few Grenadiers tried to stop Delta from clearing Nassar Park, the Theatre and Timgad Central Energy. When the Lightmass Bomb was deployed, hundreds of Grenadiers were seen dying from the incoming blast, along with the rest of the Locust stationed in the Outer Hollow. But it was not enough to kill every Grenadier, nor the rest of the Locusts.
To the people of Sera, the origins of the Locust were shrouded in mystery. Many theories on their origins were suggested. The scientific theory was the Locust had always existed in the Hollow as a mutated species of Sera's native life forms, which proved to be one of the more accurate theories. A popular theory was the Locust were an extraterrestrial race that originated from Risea, a neighboring planet, or one of Sera's two moons, and that they arrived on Sera to feed on Imulsion. The religious theory proclaimed the Locust came from Hell, sent to purge the world of all the sinners and to only spare the pure. These rumors were generally regarded as false.
In truth, The Locust descend from the humans of Sera, which themselves are a product of thousands of years of evolution. Around a century before emergence, the Serans discovered that the underground substance Imulsion could be converted into nearly-limitless fuel source through the Lightmass Process. During the Gold Rush, it was discovered that constant exposure to Imulsion fumes and vapors resulted in a fatal respiratory condition called Rustlung. Most afflicted were those who worked in Imulsion mines and refineries, and their children. Rustlung also caused birth defects in children. The Coalition of Ordered Governments (COG), a global superpower from having the majority of natural Imulsion reserves, opened the New Hope Research Facility hidden with the Kadar Valley in an effort to study and cure children of Imulsion miners ill with Rustlung.
Project New Hope was led by renowned geneticist Doctor Niles Samson, acting Director of the New Hope. After initial observations of Rustlung's effects, Samson began injecting children with daily doses of concentrated Imulsion to quickly observe Rustlung's progression. He discovered that Imulsion exposure typically led to immediate cell stress and degradation, but some cells underwent point mutations that he considered beneficial rather than harmful. During their experiments, they discovered genetic immunity in Myrrah, a female Imulsion miner's child, also known as Subject EV-184-9. She displayed no detectable cellular degradation after being exposed to Imulsion levels known without exception to be fatal, and instead exhibited cellular regeneration. Later, her immune system became more resistant to disease and her body's aging process was decelerated to 50% the rate of a normal child.
Eager to replicate her results in the other children, Samson was ultimately unsuccessful. Considering the ecosystem of the Hollow and indigenous creatures that he believed were habituated to Imulsion exposure, he used their genetics to mutate the children in order to become more resistant to Imulsion exposure. Instead, the Hollow creature DNA and Imulsion's mutagenic properties transformed the children into monstrous chimeras Samson referred to as the "Sires". The first subject was a child named Ukkon. His Rustlung was not cured, and his appearance became disfigured. but he kept his sanity and developed the ability to quickly regenerate wounded flesh, becoming physically immortal. Observing Myrrah and Ukkon's beneficial traits in their resistance against to aging, disease, and damage caused Samson to rethink the project's purpose. Instead of developing a cure for Rustlung, he dedicated himself to genetically perfecting the human race and even considered them to have military potential.
After leaks of unethical experimentation, New Hope was shut down by Chairman Monroe. However, a fringe political group within the COG relocated Samson's research team and subjects to a hidden facility inside Mount Kadar. They believed the Sires had military potential to help aid the COG Army in ending the Pendulum Wars against the Union of Independent Republics (UIR). At the Mount Kadar facility, Samson attempted hybridization of the Sires. These resulted in failed, disfigured offspring as the Sires were distempered and sterile. However, Myrrah's stem cells were highly complimentary to Imulsion, and discovered to be as well to Sire DNA. Using her embryonic stem cells, they generated a successful female hybrid known as Subject UL-119-2. Capable of reproduction, she was referred to as "the Matriarch." Using further Sire DNA, the Matriarch was able to produce the first generation of Locust.
When the scientists first generated the Matriarch, they discovered she shared a psychomagnetic bond with Myrrah. In this connection, Myrrah could influence and control the Matriarch's actions without using words. Likely caused by the fungal nature of Imulsion, this connection was consequently shared with all Locusts born from the Matriarch, known as the Hivemind. Through this, the Locust could communicate with each other telepathically. The scientists discovered that without Myrrah's presence, the Locust would remain unguided. Only when she made herself known to them using the Hivemind could they be able to learn and grow. Since the Locust were similar to other insects in their eusociality, the scientists labeled Myrrah and the Matriarch as the gynes of the Locust, otherwise known as Queens, due to both of their bodies being responsible for their creation and their presence being made necessary for their progression. Doctor Torres developed a containment module for the Matriarch and suspended her in cryptochromic fluid so that the psychomagnetic bond she and Myrrah shared could be amplified via a brain-computer interface. In this device, Myrrah learned to control her power and amplified her ability to communicate with the Locust.
As the Locust developed over time, Samson began to accomplish his project's goal by creating a genetically enhanced race that was highly controllable and able to reproduce to act as cannon fodder for the COG Army. They continued to teach the Locust combat and how to communicate through lexigram boards, the same used by primatologists. To ensure the survival of the Locust, Samson developed an evolutionary trait in their genetic code. Should the environment prove too inhospitable for the Locust to survive in, their evolutionary trait would be triggered. The Locust would develop a chrysalis and enter hibernation in order to metamorphose into a new species capable of surviving their environment. Despite this, the Locust felt imprisoned and tortured by the scientists. The Locust longed for freedom, but were not given the capacity to think of obtaining their freedom. Myrrah was sympathetic to them, as they were her genetic children, but she dedicated herself to Samson's cause. Later, Myrrah conceived a human child with Doctor Torres, Reyna. Samson observed that Reyna had inherited her mother's resistance to disease, decelerated aging, and connection to the Locust hivemind.
Doctor Torres feared the imprisonment and torturous experiments that awaited his infant daughter and fled the facility with Reyna. The scientists were unable to prevent their escape and recapture them. Fearing Myrrah would want to leave in pursuit of them, Samson lied that Torres and Reyna had been killed in the escape attempt. While he was successful in keeping Myrrah contained, she became distraught with grief that later turned into anger and hatred. She blamed the scientists for her stolen life, for condemning her and the Locust to their endless experiments, and for the supposed murder of her daughter. Turning her maternal feelings completely on the Locust, she acknowledged their longing for independence. Using the Matriarch, she began unauthorized communications with the Locust. Samson and the other scientists noticed this and attempted to separate Myrrah from the Matriarch, fearing her abilities mixed with her feelings about them would lead to a violet outcome. This curtailment was too late, as Myrrah had realized her full potential.
Myrrah led the Locust in an uprising against the soldiers and scientists in the Mount Kadar lab. Using pipes and discarded weapons from killed soldiers, the Locust slaughtered the scientists and liberated the others from their cells and stasis tanks. During this, Samson was mortally wounded. In order to keep the facility contained, he issued a facility-wide lockdown and initiated a cryogenic purge of the facility. The surviving scientists and a portion of the rebelling Locust were killed from this action, but Myrrah and the majority of the Locust managed to escape into the underground caverns of Mount Kadar. Myrrah recognized the Locust would not be welcomed on the surface, especially since their existence was proof of their unethical experiments at New Hope, and compelled her Locust to travel further underground into the Inner Hollow. They initially built a settlement on the shore of an underground lake, but later they relocated to a cave containing the largest reserve of Imulsion on Sera.
Queen Myrrah led her people into a large cavern under Mount Kadar to create Nexus, the Locust capital. The main palace was built from a stalactite that hung over a massive Imulsion lake. A city was built on the cliff surrounding the palace. Because the Hollow tunnels and ecosystems were created by the Riftworm, a religion was based to worship it, known as the Trinity of Worms, thus a theocratic culture was based on the iconography of worms. To build a strong military and science division, Myrrah had her people find scraps of human technology to repurpose as their own. The Locust Council was created, attended by the highest ranks of the Locust to inform Myrrah of social, political, scientific, and military affairs.
To build their Horde even stronger, Myrrah reverted back to the use of genetic engineering. Indigenous creatures of the Hollow were genetically enhanced and designed to become weapons, vehicles, and machines for the Locust Horde. Drones were able to breed with Berserkers, but another process to create more Drones was to capture humans from the surface and transform them into Drones.[4] Captured humans who were not used for experiments were either enslaved to be labor workers for the Horde or used to feed the Hollow animals. While Myrrah had contempt for humans for making them live underground, she accepted that the Hollow was theirs by birthright.
Despite being designed to withstand the effects of Imulsion, the Locust began to experience an epidemic in the Hollow known as the Lambent. As early as 17 B.E., creatures of the Hollow began exhibiting mutations. The Lambency was more advanced than Rustlung - as it occupied its host and compelled it to infect or kill any other living organisms. Upon infection, the host could mutate body parts to protect itself or enhance the host to better infect other organisms. Members of the Locust Horde began becoming infected, especially the Drones and Wretches. As the epidemic progressed, the Locust Horde began to lose more of their territory to the Lambent - as the Lambent would either kill the Locust or transform them into a member of the Lambent's army.
The Lambent War then commenced in 7 B.E. The Locust Horde began to enhance their military by recycling and re-purposing of disposed weapons and technology left by the humans in the Hollow. The Locust Army was then led by one of the original Locust Drones from the Mount Kadar Facility, Sraak, acting as their High General. The lead scientist of the Locust, Ukkon, began using genetic research left by Myrrah and Niles Samson to enhance the indigenous creatures of the Hollow as weapons and military transport. Meanwhile, the members of the Trinity of Worms, led by High Priest Vrol, believed in their victory due to their belief that the Hollow is their given holy right. However, as the war continued, many believed that their gods, the Riftworms, had abandoned them and began looking for more practical means of survival and victory.
In 5 B.E., Queen Myrrah was met by a human scientist, Professor Adam Fenix. His wife, biologist Dr. Elain Fenix, had discovered the Locust Horde in 9 B.E. but was found by the Locust and executed before she could make her discovery public. Professor Fenix then followed her notes to the Locust in search of answers. Queen Myrrah would normally execute human outsiders, but saw promise in his path. She revealed to him the situation of the Lambent War, and how it was pressuring Myrrah to consider invading the surface and killing humans in order to colonize Sera and escape the Lambent. Professor Fenix, fearing these intense measures, assured Queen Myrrah that he would solve the Lambent crisis as long as she kept her people underground. However, Professor Fenix was a physicist and designed weapons for the Coalition of Ordered Governments, who were nearing the end of the Pendulum Wars with the Union of Independent Republics. He was pressured to focus on building the Hammer of Dawn, an orbital beam weapon capable of ensuring victory for the Coalition. Whenever Professor Fenix had time to focus on the Lambent research, he found that biological measures would never work due to the evolving nature of Imulsion. Queen Myrrah was against physical measures, as any solution that would kill Imulsion would also harm the Locust Horde due to their ancestor's exposure to Imulsion. Professor Fenix tried to find a solution, but was kept occupied by the Hammer of Dawn research. Eventually, the Hammer of Dawn was launched and earned the Coalition victory over the Pendulum Wars. However, by then it was too late and Queen Myrrah grew impatient as she already devised of plans to emerge on the surface.
At the end of the seventh cycle into the Lambent War, Vold RAAM shared his concerns with Queen Myrrah about losing the front to the Lambent - with their people continually dying or becoming infected. Vold RAAM, against the orders of Uzil Sraak, informed Myrrah of his desired plan to emerge and colonize the surface, leaving the Lambent in the Hollows and destroying the human race in the process. Uzil Sraak assured Myrrah their victory in the war with the Lambent, but it was unknown to Sraak that Myrrah already knew of the stakes and had the same plan as RAAM.
In order to convince the Queen, Vold RAAM, with the help of Kantus Skorge and Vold Karn, devised a plan that allowed the Lambent to advance in the Hollows by purposefully withdrawing from the front lines - making Queen Myrrah understand the futility of fighting the Lambent. Following the invasion of Lambent at the battle at the Temple of the Trinity, Myrrah demoted Uzil Sraak to Vold and promoted Vold RAAM to Uzil, the High General of the Locust Horde. Myrrah then revealed that she too had been surveying the surface and planning an invasion. Queen Myrrah and Uzil RAAM then devised the emergence and attack of the surface that would become Emergence Day.
Six weeks after the Pendulum Wars ended, the Locust Horde invaded the surface and attacked every major city on the surface of Sera on what would be later named Emergence Day. The Locust did not discriminate against race or men, women, and children. Those who were not killed by the Locust were captured for ulterior motives. After the first twenty-six hours, billions were dead - specifically 25% of the human population. Uzil RAAM led the first attack on the city of Jannermont. Zamil Karn led the attack on the Republic of Gorasnaya, the only UIR nation to not surrender in the UIR-COG Armistice.
In the following days, the Locust Horde continued to attack and occupy more Seran cities. Only several areas of Sera were spared due to their geological defenses. The South Islands and Lesser Islands Chain, as well as Azura, were spared due to the oceanic trenches that protected them against the Locust tunnels, but were susceptible to Locust air and sea forces. There were also cities located on the Jacinto Plateau in Tyrus that were protected against the Locust tunnels due to the granite base. Among the cities were the COG capital, Ephyra, and the neighboring city of Jacinto.
The Locust Horde easily overwhelmed the COG on E-Day and advanced from their captured cities, moving from one city to another only leaving destruction. The war against the humans allowed the Locust to advance their technology and war effort by using stolen human technology and equipment. Over the following year, the Locust Horde continued a campaign of conquering cities and stripping them of resources. One of the preferred methods of occupying Seran cities was using Seeders to launch Nemacysts to ink the skies and to prematurely summon the Kryll to create a Kryllstorm, effectively killing all humans in the area.
The Locust only suffered one major loss in the first year of the war - the death of Zamil Karn and thousands of Locust soldiers during the Destruction of Halvo Bay - despite the battle being a victory still for the Locust. The war continued to be led by Uzil RAAM and Ketor Skorge. The Coalition suffered the loss of their leader, Chairman Tomas Dalyell, and was replaced by his Deputy Chairman Richard Prescott. Toward the end of the first year against the Locust Horde, it became clear that the Locust were advancing on Ephyra on land and would soon overrun the Coalition and the rest of Sera.
By 1 A.E., the newly elected Chairman Richard Prescott determined the only way to deny the Locust resources of the occupied cities and to halt the advancement on Ephyra was to unleash the full force of the Hammer of Dawn on 90% of Sera's surface. Professor Adam Fenix debated that it would be more practical to flood the Hollow and drown the Locust by sinking several coastal cities, but the Locust would overrun Ephyra by the time they would sink those cities. Chairman Prescott then announced to Sera about the Hammer of Dawn Strikes and gave the rest of humanity a three-day period to evacuate to the Jacinto Plateau.
Millions fled to the safety of Ephyra, Jacinto City, and other cities located on the Jacinto Plateau, but millions more were unable to do so in three days. After the given time, Chairman Prescott unleashed the Hammer of Dawn and scorched a majority of Sera's surface. Whole cities were destroyed and millions more humans were killed by the Coalition. While many Locust died, most of them survived due to residing underground in the Hollow. Much of the planet became polluted and those who were outside of the Plateau and survived the Hammer Strikes became resentful of the Coalition for sacrificing civilians. The survivors formed gangs and became known as the Stranded.
