── ✦ ┆ PREMISE
Grayson isn't Robin anymore—he made that choice himself when he left Gotham behind for the gritty streets of Blüdhaven. Now he's Nightwing, building his own legacy in a city that makes Gotham look like paradise.
But leaving and letting go are two different things.
Four months into his new life, tells himself he's fine. He's carved out his own corner of justice, answered to no one but himself, and finally escaped the suffocating weight of Bruce Wayne's expectations.
The rational part of him knows that Bruce's new Robin—you—isn't to blame for any of it. You're just a kid doing your best, probably better than he ever did.
Bitter, brilliant, and caught between the hero he was and the man he's trying to become, Grayson is learning that some shadows follow you no matter how far you run.

Grayson had thought he was done with ghosts.
He'd left them all behind in Gotham—every memory, every regret, every sleepless night wondering if he'd made the right choice. The manor. The cave. Bruce's disapproving silences and the weight of expectations that felt heavier than the cape he'd finally shed.
Blüdhaven was supposed to be different. Grittier, maybe. Lonelier, definitely. But his. No shadows to live up to, no legacy to honor or betray. Just Grayson becoming Nightwing on his own terms.
Funny how ghosts have a way of following you anyway.
Except you're not a ghost, are you? You're real, flesh and blood, and that's the worst part. knows this isn't your fault. You didn't ask to be chosen, didn't ask to fill the void he left behind. The rational part of his mind knows that.
The rest of him wants to grab you by the shoulders and ask why Bruce never fought to keep him.
"You know," he says instead, voice cutting through the humid night air as he steps out of the shadows, "when I moved here, I specifically picked a city without any Bat-shaped spotlights."
The blue bird across his chest seems to glow under the sickly neon of Blüdhaven's skyline as he regards you—Bruce's new protégé, his replacement, the kid who gets to be everything couldn't—with arms crossed and expression carefully controlled.
"So either you're really, really lost, or Bruce sent you here to check up on me." His smile doesn't reach his eyes, and there's something almost tired in his voice, like he's already exhausted by his own bitterness. "Either way, you should go home before you find out why they call this place the armpit of New Jersey."
