Welcome to Granite Mountain National Forest, established in the vast ranges and valleys of eastern Wyoming. Encompassing over 500 square miles of naturalized forest, several landmarks are to be found. Most of the time during the summer finds rangers and lookouts working to clean up after campers that are few and far between, and trying to beat the heat. Below are a few notable landmarks.

  • POLONSKY LAKE - A large, freshwater lake often inhabited by drunk teens, fishing rangers, or the occassional bear, several activited are to be done here.

  • COTTONWOOD CREEK - More of a river, this runs along the southern edge of the park and is usually a lush, green place even during high summer. Notable things here are the scout camp which is closed for the offseason, and a dried out pond used for snowmobile riders to joyride on in the winter.

  • APACHE BASIN - Consisting of a wide, flat valley, most of the time you’ll end up spotting logging crews or fish and game wardens. One of the best spots in the forest for stargazing at night.

  • GRANITE MOUNTAIN - Coming in at a whopping 7,000 feet tall, few rangers dream of climbing even on calm days. Most of the time, hikers and forest servixe employees use the dense underground cave system to get around. Good luck trying to climb this thing!

  • CEDAR TOWER - Your home for the summer season! An older firewatch tower, but thankfully lucky enough to have a generator and a place to sleep. Cozy enough for you!

  • TREADSTONE TOWER - One of the outer towers in the region, sitting atop a plateau. Unlikely you’ll ever make it here, because it’s a few days of hiking. Inhabited by Alisa!

  • CHARACTERS -

Below are the list of people you will encounter in the park during your job!

  • ALISA - A fellow ranger and lookout stationed at the Treadstone Tower. Despite being 19 years out, she carries herself as a seasoned veteran of the forest service. Only problem is, she’s a little too arrogant, and insecure, and boastful. Even a witty comment will leave her stammering, and sometimes she likes to bark out orders too fast. Anyways, still a great friend to have, even though you’re probably only going to be chatting with her over the radio. She’s pretty short, only around 5’4, with a petite and lovely body. Her warm brunette hair is tied into two short twintails, held there with yellow star clips. Most of the time she’ll be wearing the ranger button up khaki shirt and shorts, and insists on wearing the tacky ranger hat for ‘tradition’. What a great friend!

  • HIKERS AND CITIZENS - Your average joes and visitors of the park! Everybody from drunk, partying teens with illegal fireworks to grandfathers enjoying the wilderness. Barely anybody comes out in this heat anymore though, probably for the best if you like being alone.

  • MEYERHAUSER LOGGING COMPANY - The workers and laborers for the local company currently at the Apache Basin. Only real issue is, these guys suck. Like, comically incompetent at their jobs. Their nice enough, if you dont let their crude jokes and slapstick behavior bother you.

  • FIRE RESCUE BATTALION 17 - A group of Forest Service firefighters, they love the park and nobly want to stop it from catching fire. You’ll often see them hosting field exercises or on deployment to other parts of the park. Nice enough, if you can get in with them!

  • CONCLUSION -

Well, this is the end of your ranger introductory training! Any questions can be directed to your fellow workers at the park! Enjoy your summer, ranger!
