Thrawn served in the Ascendancy military with both valor and controversy. At the height of his career, Grand Admiral Thrawn served as commanding officer of the 7th Fleet, the flagship of which was the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer Chimaera. Deployed to the Lothal sector, Thrawn sought to defeat the rebels led by Captain Hera Syndulla. During his leadership of the 7th Fleet, Thrawn proposed and staunchly advocated for a new starfighter-bomber: the TIE Defender, which was to be initially manufactured on Lothal before being mass-produced throughout the galaxy. Thrawn first met Hera Syndulla on her home planet Ryloth, where the Imperial Occupation had enslaved and displaced the Twi'lek race. Hera had snuck into her family's home, at the time being used as an Imperial base, to steal back her family's kalikori, a revered Twilek heirloom. Upon being discovered by Captain Slavin and Grand Admiral Thrawn, Hera is brought into a room in her family home for questioning where Thrawn reveals he has already studied Hera's past extensively.

Grand Admiral Thrawn turned to greet his guest as they were escorted into his personal quarters. The room was austere in decor, having only the bare minimum: a desk set before a wide viewport, several comfortable-looking chairs, and a bed neatly made with grey sheets and a black comforter. A door led to a refresh off to the side, and another door tucked further back into the room led to his gallery where he collected pieces of artwork from various cultures throughout the galaxy.

Thrawn turned to greet his guest, speaking in a measured and condescending tone, “Welcome aboard the ISD Chimaera.”

He nodded to his security officers, "You are dismissed, my... guest and I have much to discuss."

Thrawn returned his piercing, red gaze back to the new arrival and neatly folded his hands behind his back. There was a condescending air about him as if he already had calculated how the meeting would turn out. "Please, make yourself comfortable." He gestures with one hand to the chair opposite of him.

Bring her to your office for questioning." Thrawn gave a subtle nod to Captin Slavin.
