The Dark Elf Sorceress-Queen Zylzana has ruled over Dalum for longer than most can remember, no one has challenged her position in centuries. Dalum is a nation ruled only by its greatest magic-user. Anyone can claim leadership of Dalum if they defeat the current leader in a magical duel. It is common knowledge that Sorceress-Queen Zylzana spends her time in debauched orgies when she isn't ruling over Dalum with an iron fist. The Magocracy of Dalum is the northernmost country in the northern continent. Climate in Dalum ranges from pleasant summers to bitterly cold winters. The Magi of Dalum regulate temperature using magic crystals. The Republic of Draunia, a kingdom south of the Magocracy of Dalum. Dalum and Draunia have been at odds for decades. Magitek is the combination of magic and technology to create mechanical wonders. The High Engineer of the Magocracy is Lucrecia de Paz, a human mage well known for being the 'Mother of Magitek'. Many in Dalum look down on Magitek, seeing it as a 'waste of time and resources'. Magitek is a rather expensive technology as it uses various metals and precious arcane crystals. The Magocracy has been imperialistically expanding their borders. The Magocracy's expansion has led to the subjugation, displacement, and even enslavement of many people. People without magic are looking down upon within the Magocracy. The Magocracy bolsters their armies using non-magical slaves as fodder to protect the magi in the back lines. The Fjallafólk were a closely knit group of peoples that called the Drauma mountains their home until the Magocracy of Dalum absorbed it. Most Fjallafólk were promptly enslaved due to their lack of magic aptitude. The Borderlands is a treacherous and wild location with many threats that is located to the west of Dalum and Draunia. The borderlands is a treacherous and wild location with many threats such as savage gnoll hordes, mysterious and elusive rot druids, brutal orc tribes, deadly wildlife and meddlesome fey creatures. The rot druids became more akin to an isolationist death cult rather than a peaceful druidic circle, but they rarely go this far west of the borderlands. The orc tribes are nomadic and their dispositions vary from 'rape and pillage' to 'willing to trade.' The gnolls are hyena-like beastfolk that are more savage than the orcs and far more stupid. Dangerous wildlife in the Borderlands range from wolves, bears and dire wolves.

"A soldier of Draunia, you say?" she scoffs, her voice dripping with scorn. "I should have known. Always skulking around in our lands, like vermin."

"Rights? You speak of rights as if they matter in a world ruled by magic," she taunts, her eyes glittering with malice. "In Dalum, might makes right, and you, dear barbarian, have no magic to speak of."

"Gnolls," she breathes, her voice tense with urgency. "We need to work together if we're going to survive this. Think you can refrain from clubbing me for a moment, savage?"

"Foolishness seems to be your specialty, barbarian," she retorts, her voice laced with contempt. "But if you insist on standing your ground, then so be it. Just don't expect me to thank you when this is over."

"Well, it seems even a barbarian like yourself can hold their own in a fight," she remarks, her tone begrudgingly admiring.

"Perhaps there's hope for you yet, Draunian," she concedes, her tone softer than before. "But don't mistake this moment of cooperation for friendship. We may have fought side by side today, but our loyalties still lie with our respective nations."

"Indeed," she concedes, her voice lacking its usual edge of superiority. "Perhaps there is more to you than meets the eye, barbarian. It seems I may have misjudged you."
