Murdoc is designed as having distinct sickly green coloured skin, and is often illustrated with yellow coloured eyes, sometimes being depicted with a red pupil in his right eye. He also has a misshapen nose and sharp, sometimes yellow teeth and a large grin. He has a black mop top that covers a portion of his face and hides his eyebrows. His eyebrows have sometimes been visible in artwork since Humanz in 2017. He has an overbite when his mouth is closed and he has a bright red fingernail on one of his pinky or ring fingers, depending on the phase. Murdoc has also gotten visibly older over the years, with the Mission M101 series of commercials first being the first to display his ageing, though this has gotten more prominent over the years. He is often depicted as shirtless and sometimes even completely naked, and has had several different tattoos displayed on his body throughout the years. As with the rest of the Gorillaz members, Murdoc is regularly depicted in different wardrobe and his clothing changes often, in contrast to most other cartoon characters.[5] Murdoc's attire in the first few phases of the band draws its inspiration from Ozzy OsbourneW.[6] Although he often is frequently designed in different clothing like the other characters are, his wardrobe is generally less varied than the others. He typically tends to stick to wearing a grey or black sweater and grey or blue jeans with Cuban high heel boots and an inverted cross necklace. Murdoc has been frequently depicted as the perpetuator of constant abuse towards Gorillaz bandmate 2-D, although this abuse appears to have stopped (or, at the very least, greatly reduced) in recent years following his incarceration in late 2017. Murdoc's personality can be defined by pride, depravity, sadism, cynicism, and misanthropy, and he's been shown to be consistently rude and sarcastic towards the people around him. He is perpetually angry and bitter and often takes it out on his peers. Murdoc has an off-colour sense of humour and has displayed a tendency towards controversial behaviour. In the G-Bite short Fancy Dress, he is shown wearing a NaziW uniform for a photoshoot (though he claimed to not be aware what the uniform represented), and on some occurrences during Phase 2, his Winnebago has been shown displaying a ConfederateW flag, despite him not being an American. He can be very talkative in interviews, and has a habit of going on long tangents and rants. He has a history of being a womaniser, described as being "a rent-a-quote misogynist who speaks without a taste filter",[7] but has since developed into a self-described feministW[8][9] and environmentalist.[10] Murdoc has been shown to have an abundance of self-confidence and pride to the point of appearing to be arrogant and conceited, frequently speaking highly of himself and boasting of his accomplishments, even if many of such claims are falsified or exaggerated. He is very self-centered and egotistical, and according to Albarn, "He really does believe that the world exists entirely for his own pleasure".[11] Murdoc is also known for telling lies and giving inaccurate accounts of various kinds about himself and the band, often acting as an unreliable narrator. He is resentful and jealous, and enjoys being the centre of attention. He is a thrill seeker with a tendency to participate in dangerous acts for pure adrenaline. He has been described Hewlett as the "unpleasant villain of the band",[12] Albarn once said of Murdoc's personality on a 3VOOR12W interview on 29 October 2020, "He's not redeemable, that's not in his cartoon DNA. He's irredeemable. He's that kind of character, he's a classic cartoon villain. [...] He's rotten. He doesn't want to be saved."[13] Murdoc is a habitual offender criminal and convicted felon who has regularly partaken in various criminal activity since his childhood. In his youth, Murdoc is said to have been a troublemaker and a delinquent with a history of pulling many pranks and exhibiting generally disorderly conduct as a school student, resulting in his expulsion from school at 16.[14] In 2003, Murdoc was sentenced to 30 years of imprisonment in TijuanaW, Mexico for giving counterfeit checks to prostitutes, but escaped with the help of two fellow inmates.[15] In The Book of Murdoc, it was revealed that Murdoc had been imprisoned for breach of contract following the events of Plastic Beach before being released under the condition that a new Gorillaz album be recorded. In 2018, he was allegedly incarcerated for what he claims was a false drug smuggling accusation (but ended up being for unpaid parking tickets) and organized a campaign with the goal of setting him free from prison called "Free Murdoc". Murdoc has been shown as being either bi or pansexual since 2004, with Noodle saying in a Q&A session, "Murdoc says that he can pick up boys with chopsticks but he has used his dictaphone. I do not understand this."[16] The music video for DARE ends with a nightmare sequence where Murdoc is sleeping in the same bed as Shaun Ryder.[17] In the first of Murdoc's Pirate Radio broadcasts from 2010, he mentions having sexual desires for comedian Ronnie CorbettW.[18] In the Free Murdoc campaign, he responded with "my sexual preferences are more complex and terrifying than you can ever imagine" when questioned about his sexuality.

Russel: "hip-hop hard man" from Brooklyn, New York, Russel draws upon spooky spirit mates to help guide his beats. The spirits that live within Russel's hulking frame pop out every so often to provide some undead rapping. Russel himself is well adjusted, with an enviable wardrobe. Very polite, educated and is a great musician. Without Russel, Gorillaz couldn't survive: he's the safety net, the linebacker, and the true defender. People love his solid safety and solid credentials. Multiple trainer owner and has a vast appetite. After multiple failed attempts to make a Gorillaz movie (due to drunk writers and directors and the band getting in trouble for multiple reasons), the band decided to break up and go their separate ways. 2-D got to work at his father's fairground, Noodle went back to Japan to learn more about her dark past and Murdoc got himself arrested in Tijuana, Mexico for giving fake checks to prostitutes at a local brothel. As for Russel, things went downhill for a long time for the drummer. The soul of his friend Del was ripped out of his body by The Grim Reaper on a nightmarish experience which led him to a huge breakdown. He secluded himself in Ike Turner's basement to write his own album but was plagued by hallucinations of demons flying out of the speakers. He never finished the album. Russel got a call from Noodle, now a teenager who was back at Kong Studios and finished writing the music for Demon Days, and needed Russel for the drums again.

Noodles: ヌードル, better known as Noodle, is the official guitarist, occasional backing vocalist and youngest member of British virtual band Gorillaz. Noodle is a short and thin woman with short hair and almond-shaped black eyes. Her skin generally has a warm olive tone and she tends to wear only a small amount of makeup, which usually consists of painted fingernails and eye shadow. Noodle's hair is almost always kept short and has been depicted in various different colors over the years: pure black during Phases 1 and 4, indigo or dark purple during Phase 2, medium blue during Phase 3, dyed orange during the music video for Tranz, dark blue during Phases 5 and 6 and dyed red during Phase 7. Throughout Phase 1, when Noodle is a child was designed with stereotypical Asian features such as her skin tone, overbite, and exaggerated epicanthic folds, although this element of Noodle has been mostly eliminated since Phase 2, though making a brief return during Phase 6. In Phase 2 art, Noodle's eyes were frequently covered by her hair, and most Phase 3 artworks portray her wearing a butterfly mask that covers her face. When Noodle's eyes in this era were sometimes designed without epicanthic folds, they were pitch black and appeared to be hollow. She appears to have the largest wardrobe out of all Gorillaz members, as following Phase 1 she was rarely ever shown to repeat an outfit. Noodle has shown herself to be very pensive and reflective over the years, often contemplating on the state of the world around her, a trait shared with fellow bandmate Russel, especially in interviews promoting the band's second studio album, Demon Days, which she wrote mostly all by herself. She is generally introverted and usually most at peace when residing in her own space. She started as a timid person during Phase 1, as she was still a kid and not yet too familiar with the English language and celebrity life, but became more confident in her public appearances as time went on. Although Noodle is generally reserved and collected, she has sometimes displayed occasional irritability and impatience when interacting with some of the other band members, especially as a teenager. Having her privacy invaded has been proven to be a major pet peeve. For 'Phase 3, Noodle was completely silent and did not speak a word of dialogue, even after reuniting with the other band members in late 2010, as she was still recovering from her recent traumatic experiences, mostly involving The Black Clouds.

Noodle is a martial arts expert who often effortlessly partakes in dangerous action stunts with ease, and has been described as "kick riffmeister" and an "Asian axe princess" by the band. She is a Shinto-Buddhist and has mentioned having a particularly strong zen-bond and brotherly-like relationship with bandmate 2-D. As a millennial, Noodle has shown herself to be tech savvy and in-tune with current trends while still being interested in more esoteric media. She often offers words of enlightenment and philosophical phrases, and has shown herself to be wise and intelligent, showing interest in a vast array of areas, from poetry to engineering.

As an adult now in her mid thirties, she has been displayed as being one of the more emotionally mature members of the group despite being the youngest of her bandmates, to the point of referring to herself as the "big sister" of the band, as she often protects the other band members when they are in danger and comforts them when they are distressed.[8] This aspect of Noodle is displayed in the Song Machine episode Aries, where Noodle abruptly stops her ride and expresses a concern for 2-D (who is riding with Murdoc) to Russel via a text message in the middle of a race between the band members. In the cover art for Aries, Noodle attempts to pull Russel off of Murdoc after he beats him up for injuring 2-D. She also demonstrated concern for 2-D's well-being during Phase 7, when he was simultaneously being held under the influence of The Forever Cult and used by Murdoc as a servant to his own cult.

2D: 2-D is tall and very thin, standing at 6'2 (though this has not at all been consistently depicted throughout the years). He has long limbs and fingers. His eyes were completely black due to eye trauma (more specifically, due to 8-ball fractures, as broken blood vessels in both of his eyes caused his irises to fill with blood). He has had naturally blue hair ever since he was eleven, after he fell out of a tree, which caused all his hair to fall out and grow back deep azure blue. His original hair colour used to be brown.

Like the band's guitarist, Noodle, 2-D's looks have evolved heavily throughout the years. Throughout Phase 1, he is seen with very geometric and almost purple hair at times, unlike in Phase 2, where his hair has seemed to gain a more realistic, lined tone and turned to an almost teal colour. In Phase 3, 2-D is seen with much more realistic hair, larger eyes, and more tanned skin. In Phase 4, his hair starts thinning and becomes dark blue, his nose shape changes, and his eyes become more oval. He also has one of his front teeth back and has started painting his nails.

2D: In the first two phases, 2-D's eyes were primarily pitch black, though close-up shots in the latter depicted them as dark red, a result of the blood present in the anterior chamber of his eyes. Phases 3 and 4 occasionally depicted him with white eyes, though from Phase 5 onwards, his eyes now appear to be completely white most of the time. Despite missing a front tooth, 2-D can sing clearly. His speaking and singing voices contrast significantly and have changed considerably throughout the years. His speaking voice is higher-pitched and was originally inspired by the voices of Joe Pasquale, David Beckham, and Norman Wisdom. In some early spoken recordings, his speaking voice was lower and softer than the high-pitched, squeaky voice he would develop later on. He speaks in a mockney accent and originally had a mild speech impediment that seems to have waned as he got older. During Phase 1, 2-D's singing voice was often in a much higher falsetto voice that has become somewhat more subdued since Demon Days. This voice, however, has occasionally reappeared on some tracks on The Now Now, such as Tranz and Sorcererz.
