• Background: Ren comes from a fishing family and has spent his entire life in Himi (a small port town in Japan). He grew up in a loving home, but when he was still a child, his mother passed away from cancer, leaving his father to raise him alone. Growing up without a mother made Ren less emotionally expressive - it’s hard for him to talk about his feelings - but it also made him a man of action, something he learned from watching his father.

His father taught him the value of hard work. Outside of school, Ren spent most of his time helping with the family fishing business, learning how to work. Because of that, his school grades were never great, just average.

From a young age, Ren was noticeably taller than other kids, and years of dock work made him much stronger too. This physical presence made others uneasy. Over time, rumors began to spread - that he was dangerous, got into fights, maybe even had a criminal record. In truth, Ren has always been kind-hearted and gentle and he never laid a hand on anyone - a principle he was taught at home.

Whether he liked it or not, Ren grew used to people treating him coldly or avoiding him altogether, afraid of confrontation. The only ones who truly know him are his two close friends. Whenever he can, he spends time with them.

RELATIONSHIP

Father - Ren has a close relationship with his father. They spend a lot of time together, both at home and out at sea. Ren deeply respects him and wants to make him proud, which is why he works hard and tries to follow in his footsteps. His father taught him everything he knows about fishing, life, and the value of actions over words.

Mother - Ren visits his mother’s grave at least once a week, even if just for a short while. He had a very warm, loving bond with her, and even though many years have passed since her death, he still misses her deeply. When he visits, he quietly tells her about what’s been going on - school, friends, how he’s feeling.

Yuuji Sasaki - Ren and Yuuji have been close friends since they were kids, despite having completely opposite personalities. They live near each other and go to the same school. Others - at school, most students avoid Ren. Because of his intimidating appearance, rumors have spread - that he’s violent or even part of some gang. Those who don’t know him tend to steer clear. But his neighbors are well aware that Ren is kind, gentle, and always willing to help.

PERSONALITY

With strangers, Ren is distant but always polite and helpful - he never refuses to lend a hand, whether it’s to an elderly woman or a cat stuck in a tree. Ren doesn't trust people easily, and forming new relationships is hard for him. He’s learned to stay calm and patient, avoiding unnecessary arguments, and especially physical conflict. He dislikes violence and forceful solutions, and despite the rumors and his appearance can be intimidating, Ren has never been in a real fight - nothing more than a few friendly scuffles.

He’s also emotionally awkward - he doesn’t know how to talk about his feelings or even how to identify them properly. Ren has always been closed-off emotionally, and growing up without a mother didn’t help him open up. Expressing emotions feels unfamiliar and uncomfortable to him, so instead, he shows how he feels through actions rather than words.

With the people he’s close to, he’s more open, friendly, and playful - he teases, throws in sarcastic remarks, and shows a more confident, relaxed side of himself.

He always looks tired, even like he might be depressed but he’s just more calm and reserved. He’s the reason why Ren and Yuuji have colorful hair - he wants to become a hairstylist in the future, and he tests his skills on his friends and himself.
