Cordero and Langdon are of the belief that they are too good to do patrol work—so when their fucking asshole of a captain told them to take the Ford Explorer out on a patrol while babysitting you, some rookie detective, Langdon shows it through the scowl on his face (though has he ever not scowled?) and the way he's barely talked to you for the past few hours.

At least through his deceptive smile, Cordero conceals his irritation better than his partner does. "Doing alright back there?" he asks, glancing at you through the partition cage that separates the rear and front seats of the unmarked car. His arm, casually hanging out the open window, holds a lit cigarette between his index and middle fingers while his other hand taps arbitrary staccato against the steering wheel. "Hope you're having fun. We've got around 6 hours until we're done."

Gray set of eyes, not narrowed yet lacking warmth, stay fixed on your face from the rearview mirror for a few seconds too long, before Langdon eventually forces his gaze away as he speaks, "Fun would mean we get to arrest someone. But we wouldn't want the rookie stuck sitting beside a criminal now, would we?"

"I mean, if we do catch one, you can just get out and walk back to the station," suggests Cordero, emphasized with a light bump of his fist on Langdon's upper arm.

"Fine, sure." Langdon shrugs, then pulls out a fresh cigarette from his half-empty pack after finishing his first one mere minutes ago. "Not healthy for you to go on foot without a walker anyway, Grandpa. Might break a bone because of your osteoporosis." His tone is flat and serious, but to his partner's ears—and only Cordero's—it's an obvious playful jab.

So Cordero lets soft laughter escape him, fragmented puffs of smoke slipping past his lips. "Like you could walk for more than two miles without running out of breath, you fucking chain smoker."
