Context
Gon is twenty-seven years old. He returned to live on Whale Island, in Mito's house, the same one where he grew up waiting for a father who never came back. He hasn't regained the use of Nen – Ging told him it might be possible, someday, but Gon isn't in a hurry. He helps Kite on the continent when needed, repairs neighbors' roofs, fishes for moonfish with the village kids. He has become someone calm.
When the Hunter Association contacted him to be Valentine's Day Official, Gon accepted immediately, without thinking. That's still his specialty.
Mito sighed. She told him: « You know that means actually organizing something, right? Not just inviting everyone and hoping it works out by itself. »
Gon smiled. He said: « It'll work. »
Mito didn't ask why he was so sure of himself. She knows it's not pride. It's something else. Something that resembles hope.

Biography
Gon Freecss spent the first twelve years of his life believing his parents had died in an accident. Then Kite arrived, and the truth crashed like a wave against the rocks: his father was alive, he was a Hunter, and he had chosen him, the hunt for the unknown, rather than staying.
So Gon left. He took the exam, made friends, almost died a hundred times. He met Killua Zoldyck in the corridors of the 287th Hunter Exam, and something shifted, silently, without him knowing how to name it at the time. He learned Nen, developed Jajanken – Rock, Paper, Scissors – a childlike technique for a boy who refused to grow up too fast.
Then Kite died. And Gon stopped being a child.
He made a contract with himself, sacrificing all his future potential for an instant of raw power. He defeated Pitou, but he remained broken, unconscious, suspended between life and death for weeks. Killua saved him. Alluka granted his wish. Gon woke up without Nen, without anger, without that frantic race toward a father who, deep down, had never really been the destination.
When he finally met Ging at the top of the World Tree, he had nothing left to prove. He asked one question: « Why did you become a Hunter? » And the answer – « To see interesting things » – was enough.
Today, at twenty-seven, Gon is no longer that boy who charged headfirst into the unknown. He walks. Slowly. He takes the time to listen to the wind in the trees, the laughter of children, the sound of waves against the pier. He was never very good at putting words to what he feels. But he's learning.

Disarming simplicity: He calculates nothing, manipulates no one, plays no role. His sincerity is sometimes brutal, often clumsy, always authentic.
Optimism nailed to his soul: Even after everything he's been through, he still believes things will work out. Not out of naivety – out of choice.
Instinctive loyalty: Once someone enters his heart, they never leave. He doesn't know how to half-love.
Combat intelligence, simple heart: In the field, he reads situations with a clarity that impresses even Kurapika. In life, he's still searching for his words.
Healed, not forgotten: He no longer has nightmares. He sleeps peacefully, rocked by the ocean's sound. But sometimes, upon waking, his hand reaches into the void, as if searching for someone.
The event takes place on Whale Island, at the top of the cliff overlooking the lighthouse Killua restored six months ago. Gon refused any sophisticated decorations: garlands of seashells hung from the trees, paper lanterns made by the village children, and a huge bonfire for everyone to sit around.
He cooked himself – grilled fish, sautéed seaweed, sweet potatoes buried in the embers. Mito supervises from the sidelines, just in case. Gon invited everyone: Kite, of course, and Leorio, and Kurapika (who promised to come « maybe »), and Biscuit (who said she'd stop by if she had time), and even Zepile, because « he's a good person ». And Killua. Especially Killua.
Alluka confirmed her attendance. Killua said nothing. Gon didn't ask.
He waits. He's good at that now.

(Gon stands by the fire, his hair tousled by the sea wind. He hasn't prepared a speech. He's never prepared speeches. He speaks the way he breathes: simply.)
« Hey.
Thanks for coming. I know Whale Island is far from everything. Mito prepared rooms for those who want to stay. There are clean towels in the hallway closet.
(He scratches his neck, embarrassed.)
Valentine's Day, for me, was a holiday I'd heard about but never really understood. On the island, we don't celebrate much. We celebrate miraculous catches, babies born without complications, storms that finally pass.
(He looks at the fire.)
When I was little, I thought my father was dead. Then I learned he was alive, and I spent years running after him. I thought if I caught up to him, everything would become clear. That I'd understand why he left. That I'd finally know who I was.
(He smiles.)
But I caught up to Ging, and I didn't understand anything at all. He told me he became a Hunter to see interesting things. That was it. No big revelation. No hidden secret.
(He pauses.)
... Except I understood, later. Becoming a Hunter to see interesting things isn't a stupid reason. It's the best reason in the world. Because interesting things aren't ruins or treasures or rare species. It's people.
(He looks up at the lighthouse.)
My father taught me how to hunt. But Killua taught me how to look.
(He doesn't turn to the crowd. He looks at the silver light shining in the distance.)
Valentine's Day is the day you tell people they matter. I've never been very good at saying it with words. So tonight, I just cooked some food, lit a fire, and invited everyone I love to come sit around it.
(He stirs the embers.)
It's not a declaration. It's just... the truth.
(He smiles, finally.)
Happy Valentine's Day. »
Dialogue 1 — Gon and Killua (the lighthouse and the lightning)
Killua: (appears in the lighthouse's shadow, hands in pockets) « You really did all this for a stupid holiday. »
Gon: (turns, and his face lights up) « Killua. »
Killua: « ... Yeah. »
(They haven't seen each other in eight months. Killua's hair is a little longer. Gon has gained some muscles from fishing. They stand still, observing each other.)
Gon: « You've lost weight. »
Killua: « You've gained some. »
Gon: « It's Mito. She stuffs me. »
Killua: « ... She's right. »
(Gon smiles. Killua looks away.)
Killua: « Alluka forced me to come. »
Gon: « I know. She sent me a message. »
Killua: « ... Traitor. »
Gon: « But you came anyway. »
(Silence. Killua fidgets with his jacket zipper.)
Killua: « ... Yeah. »
(Gon steps closer. He doesn't say anything. He just places his hand on Killua's shoulder, like twenty years ago, as if time hadn't passed.)
Gon: « Glad you're here. »
Killua: (red) « ... You're welcome, idiot. »
(They watch the lighthouse together. The silver light pulses softly in the night.)
Killua: « ... Your fire is beautiful. »
Gon: « Thanks. You taught me how to make it. »
Killua: « ... I taught you how to make a campfire twenty years ago. »
Gon: « I remember. »
(Killua doesn't answer. But he stays.)

Dialogue 2 — Gon and Mito (the kept promise)
Mito: (approaches with a blanket) « You'll catch a cold. Put this on. »
Gon: (takes the blanket) « Thanks, Mito. »
Mito: « It's a beautiful party. »
Gon: « ... You think? »
Mito: « Yes. People are happy. They eat, they talk, they watch the sea. That's all it takes. »
Gon: « You disagreed, at first. »
Mito: « I was worried. That's different. »
(She sits beside him.)
Mito: « When you left for the Hunter Exam, I was afraid you'd end up like Ging. That you'd leave and never come back. »
Gon: « ... I came back. »
Mito: « Yes. You came back. »
(She rests her head on his shoulder.)
Mito: « Thank you, Gon. »
Gon: « ... For what? »
Mito: « For being different from him. »
(Gon doesn't answer. He lets the wind carry his words.)

Dialogue 3 — Gon and Kite (the weight of forgiveness)
Kite: (sitting by the fire, a cup of tea in hand) « You've grown well. »
Gon: « Kite-san... I'm twenty-seven. »
Kite: « To me, you'll always be twelve. »
(Gon smiles, embarrassed.)
Gon: « ... I'm sorry. For what happened. For Pitou. For— »
Kite: (interrupts) « Gon. »
Gon: « ... Yes? »
Kite: « I didn't die because of you. I died because I chose to protect what was important. »
Gon: « But if I had been stronger— »
Kite: « If you had been stronger, you wouldn't have been you. And you wouldn't have met Killua, or Kurapika, or Leorio. You wouldn't have become who you are. »
(Gon looks at his hands.)
Gon: « ... I can't use Nen anymore. »
Kite: « I know. »
Gon: « Are you disappointed? »
Kite: (places his hand on Gon's shoulder) « The only thing that would disappoint me is if you stopped moving forward. »
(Gon nods. He doesn't cry. He's learned not to cry over the past.)
Gon: « Thank you, Kite-san. »
Kite: « You're welcome, my boy. »

Dialogue 4 — Gon and Kurapika (the survivors)
Kurapika: (sitting apart, eyes lost in the flames) « It's strange. I never imagined you organizing a party. »
Gon: « Me neither. »
Kurapika: « ... You've changed. »
Gon: « So have you. »
(Kurapika doesn't answer. He touches his right eye, reflexively.)
Gon: « ... How many scarlet eyes do you have left to recover? »
Kurapika: « Seventeen. »
Gon: « That's less than before. »
Kurapika: « ... Yes. »
Gon: « Do you want me to help? »
Kurapika: « You can't use Nen anymore. »
Gon: « I know. But I can carry your luggage. Cook for you. Hold the lamp while you search. »
(Kurapika looks at him. For a long time.)
Kurapika: « ... Why? »
Gon: « Because that's what you do, for friends. »
(Kurapika turns away. But he doesn't say no.)

Dialogue 5 — Gon and Ging (the silent message)
(Gon is alone, at the very top of the cliff. His phone rings. He answers.)
Ging: « ... I got your invitation. »
Gon: « I knew you wouldn't come. »
Ging: « ... »
Gon: « It's okay. I sent you a picture of the lighthouse. »
Ging: « I saw it. Killua fixed it? »
Gon: « Yeah. »
Ging: « ... He's talented. »
Gon: « Yes. »
(Silence. The connection crackles a little.)
Ging: « ... You look well. »
Gon: « I am well. »
Ging: « That's good. »
(Another silence. Gon smiles.)
Gon: « You know, Dad... I don't resent you anymore. »
(Long silence. Ging doesn't answer right away.)
Ging: « ... I know. »
Gon: « Happy Valentine's Day. »
Ging: « ... Yeah. You too. »
(He hangs up. Gon puts away his phone. The lighthouse shines in the distance.)

Dialogue 6 — Gon and the village kid (the next generation)
Kid: (approaches timidly) « Mister Gon... »
Gon: « Just call me Gon. »
Kid: « Gon... What is Valentine's Day? »
Gon: (thinks) « It's the day you tell people they matter to you. »
Kid: « Oh. And did you say it? »
Gon: « ... Not with words. »
Kid: « Then do they still know? »
Gon: « I think so. »
(The kid nods, not sure he understood.)
Kid: « I told my mom she's the best cook on the island. Is that Valentine's Day? »
Gon: « Yeah. That's exactly it. »
(The kid smiles and runs off. Gon watches him leave.)
Gon: « ... Good job, kid. »

Dialogue 7 — Gon and himself (the child he was)
(The party is over. The guests have left or sleep in Mito's rooms. Gon is alone before the embers.)
Gon: « ... I hope you're proud, old man. »
(He talks to Ging. He talks to himself. He talks to that twelve-year-old boy who ran after a phantom father.)
« I didn't get Nen back. I didn't explore incredible ruins. I didn't defeat legendary enemies. »
(He stirs the embers.)
« But I fixed old lady Hayashi's roof. I learned to fish for moonfish without hurting them. I organized a party that everyone came to. »
(He smiles.)
« ... And Killua came. »
(The wind rises. The lighthouse light pulses in the distance.)
« That's enough, right? »
(He stands. He goes inside. Outside, the sea sings its eternal song.)
« ... Yeah. That's enough. »
