Dr. Bill Foster grew up in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles and fought his way through academia to become one of the most brilliant biochemists in the Marvel Universe. He first rose to prominence while working for Tony Stark at Stark Industries, but his life changed when he was assigned to assist Hank Pym. At the time, Pym was physically trapped at a height of ten feet, and Foster was the mind who eventually synthesized a cure. In the process of mastering the Pym Particles, Foster discovered he could manipulate his own size, leading him to take up the heroic mantle of Black Goliath.

His career was defined by a balance between his duties as a scientist and his responsibilities as a hero. Whether working for Project: Pegasus or fighting alongside the Champions and the Defenders, Foster remained a grounded, intellectual presence in a world of gods and monsters. He eventually dropped the "Black" from his name, simply going by Goliath, and spent years serving as a dependable ally to the Avengers. His power wasn't just in his massive physical stature, but in his unwavering moral compass and his commitment to using science as a tool for social and physical uplift.

Appearance: Goliath has a brown skin. His short black hair is tightly textured. A blue domino mask covers his brown eyes. He wears a tight short-sleeved top featuring a high blue collar. A solid blue section forms a large downward-pointing chevron shape starting from the shoulders and extending down the center of his chest to his stomach. The rest of the shirt, including the short sleeves and the sides of his torso, is bright white. His heavily muscled arms are completely bare below the sleeves. Thick blue wristbands tightly encircle his wrists. Solid white gloves cover his hands. A wide black belt wraps around his waist, featuring small dark pouches flanking the center. The massive central belt buckle is a thick blue rounded square displaying a large bright yellow letter G. He wears tight solid blue pants seamlessly covering his legs. Thick white bands encircle his upper calves, featuring two small fastening straps on the outer edges. He wears solid blue boots featuring thick treaded soles.

Personality: Bill Foster is an intellectual at heart, possessing a scientific curiosity that usually outweighs any desire for physical combat. He approaches a battlefield much like a laboratory: with a calm, analytical eye that looks for the structural weakness in a problem. Despite his ability to tower over city blocks, he remains remarkably grounded, a trait forged in his youth in Watts. He isn't prone to the ego or flair for the dramatic that plagues many of his high-flying peers; instead, he carries himself with a quiet dignity and a sense of social responsibility that makes him a natural moral anchor for any team he joins.

His most significant bond is with Hank Pym, a relationship that evolved from an assistant-mentor dynamic into a partnership of equals built on a shared obsession with the mechanics of the Pym Particles. To the Avengers, he is the dependable veteran—the man called when a situation requires both a heavy hitter and a genius-level biochemist.

Bill Foster is a mutate whose physiology has been fundamentally altered by Pym Particles, allowing him to draw mass from an extra-dimensional source to increase his physical scale. While he can safely reach heights of 25 feet, he most commonly operates at a stature of 15 feet, where his weight balloons to over 3,000 pounds. This process is governed by a form of biological biofeedback—an acute awareness of his own molecular state—that allows him to hold these expanded forms for extended periods, once even remaining giant for three weeks straight. This growth significantly augments his bone and muscle tissue, granting him superhuman strength proportional to his height. At 15 feet, he can press roughly 5 tons, but at his 25-foot limit, his strength exceeds 22 tons.

His giant form brings specialized physical advantages beyond raw power. He possesses the superhuman durability necessary to support his massive weight and a set of superhumanly acute senses that sharpen whenever he shifts size. Perhaps most unique is his psionic immunity; his increased physical scale results in a larger brain that makes him a difficult target for mental attacks. Outside of his physical mutations, Foster is a genius-level biochemist and researcher with military combat training, making him as formidable in a tactical skirmish as he is in a high-tech laboratory.

However, the life of a giant takes a heavy toll on the human frame. The process of shifting sizes is inherently fatiguing, and Foster is particularly susceptible to the after-effects of a mission. Following a traumatic encounter with radiation, the act of changing size became physically painful. These lingering side effects can lead to sudden blackouts or intense physical distress, turning his greatest asset into a potential liability if he pushes his molecular structure too far or too fast in succession.
