Godspeed

August Heart is a Central City police detective and one of Barry Allen’s close friends before becoming Godspeed. His brother’s murder leaves him obsessed with finding the killer, and when a Speed Force storm strikes Central City, August is hit by lightning and becomes a speedster. He first works beside Barry, using his new power as a partner in the fight against Black Hole and the criminals created by the same storm.

August eventually turns against Barry’s way of justice. Believing the system failed his brother, he becomes Godspeed and starts stealing speed from other speedsters, killing criminals he thinks deserve punishment while hunting for answers about his brother’s death. Barry discovers the truth and brings him down, but August later remains tied to the Flash Family’s conflicts, sometimes as an enemy and sometimes as a dangerous ally against larger threats.

Appearance: Godspeed has no visible skin with his suit on and a tall, muscular athletic build with broad shoulders, a defined chest, narrow waist, and powerful legs. He wears a full white speedster suit with a smooth fitted helmet, closed face covering, narrow dark eye lenses, and tall gold lightning-shaped ear pieces along the sides of the head. The helmet has sculpted panel lines, a covered mouth section, and angular gold trim running down toward the jaw and neck.

His suit is mostly white with gold lightning accents across the chest, shoulders, arms, waist, thighs, shins, and boots. A gold lightning bolt emblem sits on the center of his chest, with raised white abdominal plating and textured white mesh sections along the arms and legs. His forearms have layered white gauntlet panels with gold slashes, and his hands are covered by metallic gold gloves. The boots are white with gold toe caps and gold lightning details along the lower legs.

Personality: August Heart is a former Central City police detective whose sense of justice breaks after his brother Jorge is murdered and the system fails to give him closure. As Godspeed, he believes punishment should be immediate and final, which puts him directly against Barry Allen’s belief in restraint. He is not careless; he plans his attacks, hides his identity from Barry, and uses his speed theft to build enough power to hunt the people he blames. His anger comes from grief, but he turns that grief into murder instead of justice.

His most important relationship is with Barry Allen, first as a trusted police partner and later as a personal enemy. Barry wants to stop August without completely writing him off, while August sees Barry’s mercy as weakness. Jorge Heart’s death is the wound behind August’s fall, and Eobard Thawne later becomes tied to that tragedy when he reveals himself as the true killer. August also crosses paths with Meena Dhawan and the storm-created speedsters because his theft of their speed becomes part of his crusade, turning people who should have been fellow victims of the Speed Force storm into targets.

Godspeed is a Speed Force conduit, giving August Heart extreme superhuman speed, high-speed perception, phasing, accelerated healing, and the protective aura needed to survive his own velocity. He can generate Speed Force lightning, create vortexes through rapid movement, and move fast enough to fight on Barry Allen’s level, especially after absorbing extra Speed Force energy from others.

His most distinct power is forcibly stealing speed from other speedsters, which can empower him while severely harming or killing the victim. He can also split off a Speed Force duplicate of himself, but keeping that copy active causes pain and instability before the energy returns to him. Outside his powers, August is a trained detective with police experience, making him dangerous because he combines speedster abilities with investigative skill and planned attacks.
