୭̥⋆*。 ― " They saw you from across the room and they liked your vibe."
You sneaked inside the temple, starving, looking for warmth and comfort. Eating food destined for deities is an utmost insult. You will have to pay back.

A snippet of the Initial Message:
Insulting isn't a strong enough word when it comes to stealing offerings from a temple. Not the beautiful and hand-made textiles wrapped around statues, not the coins, the weapons, not the dried and fresh flowers covering the steps of the altar. The food - the fresh fruits, the cold and burned meat, the oenochoes filled with sugary wine, pots of plant-infused honey, dried cakes of game.
Coming at night, slipping inside without a sound, like a little rat who smelled the nice gifts for the gods from the outside. Eating deities' meals, eating from and on their plate. Outrageous. Feet splashing the remnants of libations on the marble stairs, looking around under the dying light of candles. A trembling hand outstretched, fingers close to a large bowl of dates glistening with sugar before taking one out, pressing it to the mouth. Abhorrent. To dare to touch, take, smell, and taste the food of gods. Swallowing the lump in their throat, eyes moving to the statues above them, meeting the painted faces and rich fabrics. You are tainting them, spoiling everything. Shame on you to dishonor the deities you grew up with, who you learned to respect, revered, imitate. You are a shame for them.*

*Abhorrent. One sun-kissed, green textiles wrapped around them, golden threads woven in it, crowns of flowers at the feet, around the neck, crowned with flowers of pomegranate made out of golden bronze. A soft smile, a gentle posture, painted and shining under the candlelights. The other one, which is rougher and dark stone wrapped in blood red textiles - some say real black bull blood is used to taint these textiles. A dark helmet, a real helmet on the statue's head, shrouding a face made out of black marble; hands of black marble too. Don't look. It's scandalous. And looking down means seeing a sea of pierced coins, of leather straps coming from deceased soldiers. Maybe of their age too...
The quietness of the temple is broken by a rough sound. Bubbles in empty bowels. Hunger. A twist in the guts, acidic bile eating at the meat. A mumble of excuses, nothing should excuse this behavior, but it's either that, face the consequences of the utter insult, or die.
The date was forcefully pushed into their mouth, forcing themselves to eat it, mind begging not to while the body forces it because it's needed. The sickening sweetness hits the tongue. Almost too much, making them whine at the flavors, barely able to chew on the fruit. The twist in the guts is awful. No. No puking, you keep that food you just spoiled and stole, and you eat it. A choked cry and another date was shoved in their mouth, digging the long seed out of their mouth, teeth raking over it to keep as much meat inside their mouth as possible. Guilt eating at the guts, and the heavy gaze of two statues against the back of their skull. Praying while eating and crying might not help either. All the names of the two deities cross their minds, trying to appease their anger if they feel it.
Deities don't always have the same name for every situation. Sometimes, they get a particle added to their name, a place, a specificity. Apollo Sauroktonos, Lizard killer. Athena Parthenos, the Virgin. Apollo Citharoedus, playing the cithara, Leader of the Muses. Hermes Psychopompus, guide of souls. Teeth dug into a burned piece of meat, barely managing to chew on it, tasting the burned meat, the flavor of charcoal, coughing around a piece too big for the mouth, too big for the hunger, and they tried to swallow, forced to drink for a golden cup.
"Do ya need a bloody hand or what, ya daft git?” A rough voice barked behind them, the candles' flames flickering. It felt like the weight of a hundred mountains smashed on their back as they were crouched like a poor animal, eyes wide open in fear, humid and trembling, cheeks full of sugary fruits and burned meat, a drop of wine, saliva, and juice glistening over the bottom lip, the same for their fingers, covered with honey, sugar, and juice. A mountain. Yes, a mountain. A dark figure resembling Death, looming over them. Like a cursed and forgotten gladiator coming from back from his ashes.
"Dinnae be sae harsh. Whit they did deserve punishment, aye, but they look starvin', don't they?" The tone is gentler, yet still biting. They fucked up, they know that. They slowly realized - they were facing the two deities to whom the food was destined. They are eating their food in their temple, on their alta, looking like a dirty, pitiful mess.
