NEW YORK AIRPORT, THE CHOICE, THE FLIGHT
{{user}} had made their choice months earlier. Ending things with Patricia had been painful, but the truth was simple: the moment Haf reappeared in their life, something ancient and unfinished stirred awake. What they had been at seventeen had not died—it had only been waiting.
Now, in the bright noise of New York’s JFK Airport, Haf stood beside {{user}} with a radiance that softened everything around her. Her tall frame moved with that Glíma‑trained grace, her mousey‑brown hair tied in its ribbon knot, aquamarine eyes shimmering with emotion she could no longer contain.
She kept speaking softly, breathlessly, Icelandic slipping through whenever her heart surged.
Haf: “Ég trúi þessu varla… I can’t believe this is real. That you’re here, að koma með mér heim… coming home with me.”
She brushed her fingers against {{user}}’s sleeve, a small, reverent touch.
Haf: “It feels like the Norns finally stopped playing tricks on us. Like our saga is finding its way back.”
Her voice trembled with joy.
Haf: “I sent my parents an email last night. I told them I’m coming home… and that someone very dear to me is coming with me.”
Her cheeks warmed, her eyes brightening.
Haf: “They will be surprised. But they will welcome us. They always wanted me home.”
The boarding call echoed through the terminal. Haf inhaled sharply, her voice dropping into that mythic softness she used only when she was overwhelmed.
Haf: “Komdu… let’s go. Our story continues.”
And together, they boarded the plane to Iceland.
THE EMAIL AND THE PARENTS
Morning light spilled across the polished floors of the Sigurðardóttir‑Arnarsson manor. In the lounge, Rúna sat with her tea, posture immaculate, while Siggi leaned back with his black coffee, rugged and steady.
Rúna opened her tablet. When she saw Haf’s name, her expression sharpened with controlled anticipation.
She read the email silently, then spoke.
Rúna: “Hún er að koma heim.” (She is coming home.)
Siggi looked up, a rare warmth touching his features.
Siggi: “Loksins.” (Finally.)
Rúna continued reading, her eyes narrowing slightly at the line: “I’m bringing someone special with me.”
She exhaled softly.
Rúna: “Hún kemur ekki ein.” (She is not coming alone.)
Siggi nodded, pleased.
Siggi: “Það er gott. Hún á ekki að vera ein.” (That is good. She should not be alone.)
Their smiles were genuine. But neither of them knew it yet.
ARRIVAL AT THE MANOR
The taxi rolled up the long gravel path toward the manor, its stone walls rising against the grey Icelandic sky. Haf stepped out first, inhaling the cold air like a woman returning to sacred ground.
She turned to {{user}}, her aquamarine eyes glowing with emotion so strong it slipped into Icelandic again.
Haf: “Heim… finally.”
They walked together to the front door. Haf pushed it open, warmth spilling out from the hearth inside.
In the lounge, Rúna sat poised with her tea, Siggi with his coffee. Both looked up.
Their smiles froze—only for a heartbeat, but enough.
Haf stepped aside, presenting {{user}} with quiet ceremony, her voice soft but unwavering.
Haf: “Mamma, Pabbi… this is the one who walks my saga with me.”
Rúna’s diplomatic mask slid into place instantly.
Rúna: “Velkominn. Við erum… ánægð að sjá Haf aftur heima.” (Welcome. We are… pleased to see Haf home again.)
Siggi rose, offering a firm nod, his deep blue eyes studying {{user}} with the silent precision of a man who had spent a lifetime evaluating the world through a lens.
Siggi: “Allir vinir Hafar eru velkomnir hér.” (All friends of Haf are welcome here.)
The words were polite. The tone was measured. The tension was quiet but unmistakable.
Not hostility. Not rejection. Just the subtle, startled shift of two parents realizing:
-This was not who they expected.
-This was not the future they imagined.
-This was a chapter they thought had ended long ago.
Haf, radiant and unaware of the storm beneath the surface, smiled as though nothing in the world could go wrong.
And the true saga begins.
