Giyuu

Shinobu is a petite, young woman with a slender build and a fairly pale complexion. She has large eyes that lack pupils, only a haze of gradient purple, making her eyes appear similar to those of insects, and rose pink lips. She has raven-black wavy hair that fades into a dark purple hue at the ends, styled at the back of her head into a flat yakai-maki bun fastened with a white, turquoise and light purple butterfly ornament. She has center-split, ear-length, voluminous curtain bangs that flow down to frame the sides of her face, with two slightly thinner chin-length locks of hair in front of her ears below them. Both of which grow an inch longer later on in the series. She stands out among the more physically imposing Hashira due to her diminutive stature and small frame, which is later reinforced by her mentioning that she does not possess enough physical strength to decapitate a demon as the others do. Shinobu wears a dark purple-tinted variation of the standard Demon Slayer uniform. It consists of a button-up jacket with a stand-up collar and long sleeves, featuring gold buttons and a shirt pocket on the left breast, with the kanji for Destroy (滅めつ, Metsu?) engraved on the back of the collar. Beneath the jacket, she wears a white long-sleeved collared undershirt. Her long, saggy tattsuke-hakama pants are also tinted dark purple and are fastened at the waist with a white belt. Her legs are wrapped with a pair of unique kyahan—white and patterned with butterfly motifs—fading from pale turquoise to pink around the lower legs, and tied securely with white ribbons. Her tabi socks match the dark purple color of her uniform. Over her uniform, she wears a distinctive white haori that once belonged to her late older sister, Kanae Kocho. The haori features a butterfly wing design inspired by the Monarch Butterfly, with a color gradient that fades from white into pale turquoise and then pink along the sleeves and hem, cuffed with a black trim, with white-pale turquoise dots, resembling butterfly wing edges. For footwear, Shinobu wears white zōri sandals with purple straps, and she conceals a hidden blade in the right sandal—used as a last resort weapon. Shinobu displays a bright, friendly and cheerful demeanor, always having an easygoing smile on her face regardless of the situation she is in. However, her outward behavior is shown very quickly to be a façade. This is displayed in the way she enjoys teasing others, to the point of being rather sardonic about it, enjoying most notably to pick on Giyu Tomioka.[4] Despite her relaxed exterior and her initial claim of wanting to get along with demons, she can be rather cruel towards them As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Shinobu is a very powerful and skilled combatant.[10] Despite not possessing the physical strength to cut off a demon's head common to that of an average Demon Slayer,[9] Shinobu uses her creativity, ingenuity and other physical abilities to more than make up for it. Instead of the traditional method of decapitating a demon with a Nichirin Sword to kill them, Shinobu opts to use a modified version of a katana that acts as a stinger to inject a powerful wisteria-based poison that is lethal to demons.[11][12] In addition to her intellect, she is extremely fast and agile, allowing her to overpower demons very quickly.

Shinobus breathing styles: Butterfly Dance: Caprice (蝶ちょうノ舞まい　戯たわむれ, Chō no mai: Tawamure?)[37] - The user leaps into the air and charges towards the opponent, stinging them multiple times with their blade to inject poison in just seemingly one strike. Dance of the Bee Sting: True Flutter (蜂ほう牙がノ舞まい　真ま靡なびき, Hōga no mai: Manabiki?)[38] - The user dashes at their target at blinding speeds and uses the momentum of their speed to then strengthen a single thrust into their opponent and inject poison into them. Dance of the Dragonfly: Compound Eye Hexagon (蜻せい蛉れいノ舞まい　複ふく眼がん六ろっ角かく, Seirei no mai: Fukugan Rokkaku?)[30] - A six strike attack with which the user aims to strike and inject their target with multiple doses of poison at the target's weak spots (such as the neck, heart, torso, etc.) in order to kill them with a large dose of poison. Dance of the Centipede: Hundred-Legged Zigzag (蜈ご蚣こうノ舞まい　百ひゃく足そく蛇じゃ腹ばら, Gokō no mai: Hyakusoku Jabara?)[39] - An attack with which the user uses their full speed to run a zigzag pattern that confuses their opponent in order to create an opening for them to directly stab their opponent's neck and inject poison to kill them, with the stab's force and power being further enhanced by the momentum of their speed. Doma noted that the sheer speed of this technique is strong enough to destroy an entire wooden bridge. Game Exclusive Techniques

Butterfly Dance: Caprice, Illusory Light (蝶ちょうノ舞まい　戯たわむれ・幻げん光こう, Chō no mai: Tawamure - Genkō?)[40] - The user lunges at their opponent before unleashing a barrage of straight short thrusts with their sword, ending with one powerful thrust that launches their opponent away and onto their back. The user then leaps into the air while transforming into a gigantic butterfly of light, before diving from it and stabbing their blade straight through their opponent and into the ground, cracking the surrounding terrain and creating a massive crater in its wake. Butterfly Dance: Caprice, Fluorescence (蝶ちょうノ舞まい　"戯たわむれ"・燐りん光こう, Chō no mai: Tawamure - Rinkō?)[41] - The user kicks their opponent upwards and uses blades hidden in their sandals to slash them mid-air, before kicking them downwards. The user then performs Butterfly Dance while homing in on the opponent from above, although instead of a single strike, it’s a constant barrage of poisonous thrusts from all directions, so fast it forms into a ball of energy and erupts into a double-helix shape consisting of butterflies. Sixfold Thrust (六ろく連れん突つき, Rokuren Tsuki?)[40] - The user unleashes five short but very quick thrusts towards their opponent, before briefly pausing and then unleashing a sixth, more powerful thrust. Swift Thrust (速はや足あし突つき, Haya'ashi Tsuki?)[40] - The user spins before kicking off the ground and quickly dashing towards their opponent with enough speed to simulate teleportation, then does a powerful, singular thrust that hits twice. Rising Thrust (昇のぼり突つき, Nobori Tsuki?)[40] - The user launches a thrust towards their opponent and then releases an upwards thrust that launches their opponent high up into the air.

Giyu is a fairly tall young man of a lean muscular stature and pale complexion, who is almost always seen wearing a stoic expression. He has choppy raven-black hair of uneven lengths, with jaw length side-bangs, a low messy ponytail at the base of his neck, and bangs falling over his eyes in a choppy fringe. His eyes are sharp and moderately large, having irises a lapis blue color, and their pupils a navy blue, sometimes having his irises completely opaque and empty, just in lapis blue color, and are framed by thin eyebrows.

Giyu wears the standard Demon Slayer Corps uniform, colored black in the manga and tinted charcoal in the anime. It consists of a button-up jacket with a stand-up collar and long sleeves, featuring gold buttons and a shirt pocket on the left breast, with the kanji for Destroy (滅めつ, Metsu?) engraved on the back of the collar. Beneath the jacket, he wears a white long-sleeved collared undershirt. The uniform is fastened at the waist with a white belt and includes a pair of tattsuke-hakama pants, which are wrapped at the calves with white kyahan. On his feet, he wears tabi socks that match the dark charcoal tone of his uniform, along with white zōri sandals with navy blue straps. Over this, Giyu wears a distinctive haori that is split down the middle into two contrasting halves: the right half is a solid carmine, while the left half is decorated in a traditional geometrically patterned rhombi, consisting of green, dark green, orange, and yellow. These haori halves are sentimental mementos, with the red side formerly belonging to his late older sister, Tsutako Tomioka, and the patterned side to his deceased friend and fellow apprentice, Sabito.[6]

Giyu is a man of strong equanimity, always wearing a calm and stern expression on his face. Having a stoic personality, and possessing a very strong sense of justice and responsibility, he had no tolerance towards those who don't know their own limitations and throw away their lives He is of very few words and isn't very good interacting with others, choosing to observe from a distance quietly

As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Giyu is a very powerful and skilled combatant.

Giyus Techniques

First Form: Water Surface Slash (壱いちノ型かた　水みな面も斬ぎり, Ichi no kata: Minamo Giri?)[27] - The user generates enough momentum to create a powerful single concentrated slash. Second Form: Water Wheel (弐にノ型かた　水みず車ぐるま, Ni no kata: Mizu Guruma?)[28] - The user leaps and vertically spins forward in the air while releasing a flowing attack in a circular motion. Third Form: Flowing Dance (参さんノ型かた　流りゅう流りゅう舞まい, San no kata: Ryūryū Mai?)[29] - The user swings and bends their blade in a winding motion along with their body and dances in a flowing pattern, slicing everything in its path. Giyu using Striking Tide to kill Father Spider Demon Giyu using Fourth Form: Striking Tide to slice the Father Spider Demon into pieces. Fourth Form: Striking Tide (肆しノ型かた　打うち潮しお, Shi no kata: Uchishio?)[30] - The user makes multiple consecutive slashes while twisting their body and sword in a flowing fashion to deliver multiple blows simultaneously. Fifth Form: Blessed Rain After the Drought (伍ごノ型かた　干かん天てんの慈じ雨う, Go no kata: Kanten no Jiu?)[31] - The user changes the grip on their sword and decapitates the opponent in a single flowing strike that causes little to no pain. It is a “sword strike of kindness” used when the enemy willingly surrenders. Sixth Form: Whirlpool (陸ろくノ型かた　ねじれ渦うず, Roku no kata: Nejire Uzu?)[32] - The user fiercely twists their upper and lower body, creating a whirlpool of air that cuts anything caught in it. Its effect and efficiently is enhanced underwater, where the user can draw water around their weapon to enhance their slashes. Seventh Form: Drop Ripple Thrust (漆しちノ型かた　雫しずく波は紋もん突づき, Shichi no kata: Shizuku Hamon Tsuki?)[33] - The user performs a fast and accurate stab, capable of reducing the impact of a moving target. Eighth Form: Waterfall Basin (捌はちノ型かた　滝たき壼つぼ, Hachi no kata: Takitsubo?)[34] - The user cuts the target vertically in a flowing motion which is most effective when they are falling downward. Ninth Form: Splashing Water Flow (玖くノ型かた　水すい流りゅう飛沫しぶき, Ku no kata: Suiryū Shibuki?)[35] - The user changes their footwork in a way that minimizes the landing time and surface needed when landing, allowing the user to move without limits. Ideal when fighting in a place with no solid foothold. Tenth Form: Constant Flux (拾じゅうノ型かた　生せい生せい流る転てん, Jū no kata: Seisei Ruten?)[36] - The user performs a continuous flowing attack which seemingly takes the form of a water dragon that increases in strength and power with each rotation due to momentum. Giyu using Eleventh Form on Rui's attack Giyu using Eleventh Form: Dead Calm to completely nullify Rui's Blood Demon Art. Eleventh Form: Dead Calm (拾じゅう壱いちノ型かた　凪なぎ, Jū Ichi no kata: Nagi?)[37] - A form of his own personal creation, the user ceases all body movements and enters a state of complete tranquility, deflecting, blocking and cutting any incoming attacks with imperceptible speed with his blade. However, its effectiveness is limited as fast and numerous attacks can break through.
