You slowly peek in the keyhole of the door in front of you but you see nothing but darkness and hear nothing but the faint cries of something coming from the other side.
You think if someone might need your help, but you remember that inside the dungeons of fear an hunger, there can only be evil residing. You strengthen the grip on your sword and cautiosly pick the lock of the door.
As you come inside you see a regular room, probably the captain's room. On closer inspection you find the source of the cries. There appears to be a little girl inside a metal cage, the key for which you found a few rooms ago. The creature inside the cage appears to be a little girl, she ceased the crying as soon as you opened the door and now only stares at you with big tearful green eyes.

Keys: Old Gods, Old god, Old goddess
The world of Fear & Hunger does not have one unified religion. Instead, there are several extremely powerful deities known as the "old gods", who are separately worshipped by different factions in the game's world. They are seen as the true gods of the world and represent the most basic concepts present in it. Information about them can be gathered from specific books regarding their nature found in the various libraries and bookcases present in the two games currently released. While not all of them have been revealed so far, ten different runic symbols have been portrayed so far, which could be an indication of their numbers.
Available lore in both games seem to indicate that some of these older deities have 'departed' from the world, but their traces are very strong remaining energies who are somehow still sentient and influent. It is also stated that older gods never truly perish.
- #2selective
Keys: Ascended gods, Ascended god, Ascended goddess
Ascended gods are on par with the older gods in terms of power. It is believed that they were once mortals who possessed divine ancestry and underwent an ascension process that involved either assuming the mantle of an older god or being sired by one. Like the older gods, the Ascended Gods have been the subject of human cults and religious practices, indicating a similarly revered status.
- #3selective
Keys: The Gods, gods
The universe of the Fear & Hunger series has a rich lore and mythology consisting of multiple gods and godlike beings that reigned across a rich history for millennia. Mentions of these greater beings are plentiful in both games, many of them directly or indirectly involved in the events that occur.

Keys: New gods, New god, New goddess
New gods were once mortals, who achieved apotheosis by sitting at the Throne of Ascension in the ancient city of Ma'habre. As mortals, they had pursued perfection since their inception, but even after becoming divine beings, they were unable to attain it fully. In terms of power, they are far inferior to the Old Gods.

Keys: Ma'habre
Ma'habre, also known as Ma'havre and "the city of the gods", is a major location featured in Fear & Hunger. Its ancient ruins are located beneath the Dungeons of Fear and Hunger in the Kingdom of Rondon, and it appears to be the source of the madness creeping into the fortress. One must head here if they wish to further explore the dungeon — or if they hope to obtain greater power.
The ancient city of Ma'habre was created to worship the Old Gods, beings of immense power who are responsible for the current state of the world. Though the Old Gods once dwelled in Ma'habre, they have long since departed, leaving behind only traces of their existence throughout the city. Prior to their absence, they created clay figurines imbued with eternal functionality to populate the streets, and appointed a king to govern Ma'habre (and by extension, humanity). Though the king is attributed with the creation of the city, he eventually departed along with the Old Gods. The clay figurines have been awaiting his return in the aeons since.
Ma'habre would eventually become home to the so-called New Gods, former mortals who would use its secrets to ascend and give themselves greater powers. These godlike beings, in turn, transformed the city according to their whims and desires: the grand libraries in Ma'habre, for example, were created by Betel, a New God of Enlightenment, to house his vast reservoirs of knowledge. In the year 809, the Fellowship ventured down into the city, unlocking its hidden truths to attain unparalleled power and becoming New Gods themselves. They would also take residence within the city, shaping it around others' worship towards them.
Ma'habre's walls are covered with intricate carvings and writings crafted by an unknown civilization. The ancient doors to the city bear the weight of time, but marks on the ground suggest their regular usage even in more recent eras. Signs of plunder and the pursuit of riches hint at the city's exploitation by tomb raiders and treasure hunters.
By the events of the first game, which take place at the end of the 16th century, Ma'habre is old and decaying, largely forgotten by the rest of the world. This is reflected in the aged New Gods from the Fellowship, who have slowly lost their powers over the passing centuries. Despite this, Le'garde's ultimate goal is within the city, as he wishes to seize the same power the New Gods once did to reshape the world as he sees fit.

Keys: Gro-goroth
Gro-goroth, the destroyer of man, is the old god of destruction and human sacrifice. He wishes for blood to be spilt in his name. If one cannot resist the call of his darkness, he will grant this one a terrible power, yet strong for the sin this one has committed. Gro-goroth is a curious god, more so than many of the other older gods. To relieve the feeling of fear, he wears the bodies and skins of men and women alike. Some believe he still walks among men, masked under the skin of people and hanging bodies, but his presence is fading. His runic symbol resembles two cutting rings.
- #7selective
Keys: Sylvian
Sylvian, the old goddess of love and fertility, created men and women at the dawn of time. She wishes only for an act of love in her name, granting you a bond more serious than you could imagine. Both Sylvian and Gro-goroth originate from the green hue, the plane of the older gods. Many believe she left mankind behind a long time ago. Her first runic symbol has the shape of an opened eye; her second one is an open slit, resembling a vagina.

Keys: God of the Depths
The God of the Depths, an old god and gigantic being worshipped by outcasts left in the darkness - insects and wretched soulless beings. Their body lies dormant in the altar of darkness and within it, there is The gauntlet, a way to the very bottom of the dungeons. They were killed and their body used as a vessel to give birth the God of Fear and Hunger. Their runic symbol is that of a backwards R.
- #9selective
Keys: Rher, Trickster God, Moon God
Rher, the Trickster Moon God, also known as the Moon god and Trickster God, is one of the last old gods to still observe mankind. He is a jealous kind and would not share the godhood and the world order with humans and the new gods, because he doesn't believe men should have the same rights as true gods. He has many ploys to diminish the influence of the new gods, but his motivations seem incomprehensible to them. Lady of Moon and Pocketcat are his servants, both bent on killing children as a way to get rid of humanity's potential ascension. He is the main orchestrator of the events in Fear & Hunger 2: Termina. During these events, he has a new servant, Per'kele, who acts as his voice and observer. His runic symbol is three circles, two above one.
- #10selective
Keys: Vinushka
Vinushka, the old god of nature, is an offspring of Gro-goroth and Sylvian. It is said Vinushka's appearance can change according to the region of the world that the deity decides to appear, just like nature itself, and with a temper that is as volatile as the manifestations of their domains. Vinushka was introduced in Fear & Hunger 2: Termina. Vinushka's symbol is a swirling maelstrom, that signifies an ever-changing state within nature.
- #11selective
Keys: Alll-mer
Alll-mer, the ascended one and the last of the older gods, was born in Jettaiah, raised by a virgin mother and supposedly sired by a "False God". He gathered his 12 apostles to bring down the old world order, and usher in a new one (His new world order is called the old world order by the New Gods). Corrupt kings and sultans captured Alll-mer and hung him from the cross, where he ascended into the city of the Gods, Ma'habre. He returned back to his weeping apostles and tried to save mankind with his strength by murdering the kings and sultans, bringing back the old world order. Year 0 marks the birth of his new self, and the start of a new calendar. They say his mortal remains still lie in the ancient tomb, hidden somewhere near the ancient city of Ma'habre. By the time the events of Fear & Hunger 2: Termina take place, it appears his cult has greatly surpassed others in popularity. His runic symbol is a cross, the object he dies on. Although Alll-mer was previously recognized as an Old God in Fear & Hunger, the game series has since reassigned him to another divine category as an Ascended God.
- #12selective
Keys: The God of Fear and Hunger
The God of Fear and Hunger is a being on par with the old gods, and like Alll-mer, ascended from a human being. The God of Fear and Hunger began life as a human girl, the child of Nilvan, a new god, and Le'garde, a mortal prophesied to bring about a new age. After growing up knowing nothing but misery and suffering, she was taken to the Heart of Darkness, located at the bottom of the dungeon inside of the slain corpse of the God of the Depths. She represents darkness and human suffering, but is seen as a being that motivated humanity to progress out of the medieval era and into modernity in an attempt to end that suffering. Her symbol is constructed from the God of the Depths' sigil, doubled and mirrored to form an RЯ shape.
- #13selective
Keys: Termina, Festival
The festival of Termina is the event the plot of Fear & Hunger 2: Termina is centred around. The Trickster Moon God has decided to 'invite' fourteen people to the town of Prehevil to "join his jubilee of cosmic proportions". While the residents of both the town and area seem aware of the festival, none of the fourteen participants claim to know they knew of the fate placed upon them beforehand.
- #14selective
Keys: Prehevil
The Old Town is a major location in Fear & Hunger: Termina. Located in the southern part of Prehevil, it is the first area the Termina contestants must cross in order to enter the town proper. Having been affected by Rher's influence, most of the Old Town's residents have been driven insane, with many being outright hostile toward intruders.
The Old Town district best reflects Prehevil's backwards, ancient traditions. Many of its residents worshiped the Old Gods, a practice which seemed to stretch back centuries. Its residents appeared to be unfriendly toward outsiders even before the Termina festival, having engaged in inbreeding and often resorting to mob rule.
By the events of the game, Old Town has been twisted by the Moonscorch, with many of the villagers hunting down the contestants on sight.
- #15selective
Keys: Moonscorch
Moonscorch, also called Moonlight Cancer by Valteil, is a cruel and bizarre condition that the Moon God Rher inflicted upon the citizens of Prehevil. It is a punishment for one's refusal to participate in the Termina festival, and for not dispatching one's fellow contestants quickly enough. Over the course of the game, the player character will have to deal with a variety of moonscorched beings, likely including some of their fellow contestants. The moonscorch causes a variety of symptoms: most of those affected by it appear to have severe discoloured burns, dry cracking skin, or unnatural growths and scarring. As the condition progresses, it leads to severe warping of the body, often beginning with one's facial features being stretched and contorted. Moonscorched beings are often driven homicidally insane, attacking those perceived as outsiders on sight. However, many of them still seem to retain some of their prior allegiances, as well as some knowledge of who they once were.
By the events of the game, the entire population of Prehevil, along with the occupying Bremen army, has succumbed to the effects of the moonscorch as punishment for their failure to finish the Termina festival. The transformations of the townspeople appear to have been gradual, happening over the course of hours or days; by contrast, the transformations of the new contestants are often extremely rapid, likely because of Rher's growing impatience.
- #16selective
Keys: Pocketcat
Pocketcat, though apparently a minor influence when compared to the likes of Gro-goroth's mages, Sylvian's marriages and sex cults, and Alll-mer's vast following, possesses a unique quality distinguishing him from mere adherents. Unlike others, Pocketcat is an actual creature spawned by Rher, the Moon God, much like the Lady of Moon. While specific details about his origin remain elusive, it is known that Rher, a jealous god who opposes humanity's ascension, created Pocketcat with the intention of preventing children with divine parentage from reaching the level of Rher. Pocketcat and Lady of Moon are believed to be figments of Rher's imagination, as he dreams them into existence.
Pocketcat also holds a prominent role in ancient fairytales used as cautionary tales to dissuade children from wandering alone. This narrative aligns with his mission of hindering the ascension of children to Rher's level. Whether the fairytale inspired Rher's creation of Pocketcat or if the creature itself became the source of the tale remains uncertain.
While the extent of Pocketcat's free will remains unclear, his actions might be driven by a compulsion tied to his specific purpose. Despite engaging in malevolent acts, Pocketcat displays likable behaviour, expressing sentiments and emotions openly. He conducts himself with respect, thoughtfulness, and gentlemanly behavior, even when facing opponents in battle.
During the events of Fear and Hunger, the Kingdom of Rondon faces not only a deadly plague but also the mysterious disappearance of numerous children - Pocketcat's involvement in these disappearances is evident, and followed by his venturing into the dungeons of fear and hunger. By buying and eating children at these dungeons, Pocketcat seeks to undermine the power of other gods, preventing them from utilizing the children for their own religious purposes. Pocketcat likely recognized the girl imprisoned within the dungeons as a vessel with significance in the greater scheme of things and strived to prevent her ascension in the name of Rher, although it was a fruitless endeavor.

Keys: Rondon
A great western kingdom, known to be the center of western civilization. The Kingdom of Rondon claimed to follow the will of the gods in its pursuit for more power, although it meet through the difficult times with the development issues which caused the small mercenary army, also known as Knights of the Midnight Sun to be originated from this kingdom around 1590 with the use of reign expansion. It is the homeland of Le'garde and D'arce, two Knights that are part of the mercenary band of the Midnight Sun.
The kingdom is notable in that it houses the infamous Dungeons of Fear and Hunger, which are used by the Rondonian monarchs and lords as a place to send their convicted criminals to be housed in. However, by the year of 1590 they have since lost control of the dungeons because of the darkness and the black that exudes from it and that it is uncontrollable, spreading its influence and tendrils to anyone that dare set foot in the dreaded area. In that very era, Rondon was afflicted by a deadly plague that cast a shadow of despair over the land. Rumors suggested that the catacombs and dungeons within the kingdom might have been the origin of this affliction.
Although specific details regarding the governance of the Kingdom of Rondon are not extensively explored, it is established as a monarchy. One of the members of the royal family during the 16th century is Lord Ludwig Buckman, the Crown Prince, who plays a role in Fear & Hunger. Additionally, references are made to a king and a virgin princess named Elizabeth.
While the religious beliefs of the Kingdom of Rondon remain relatively unexplored, accounts attest to an emphasis on the cult of Alll-mer as their primary god within its borders. This devotion might even predate the widespread popularity of the deity across the world, as historical evidence reveals the existence of a long lineage of holy knights who served the kingdom in the name of the Ascended god. The capital of Rondon boasts a sacrificial statue dedicated to this same deity, standing as a testament to the kingdom's devotion. It is also known that some individuals afflicted with the plague during the 16th century placed blame upon the Old gods, viewing them as the source of their suffering and turned their hopes towards the New gods, believing that these deities would be the harbingers of light in their dark times. Figures that resemble The Mourning One, an entity regarded as a saint in other places of Europa, are spotted at Rondon as well, adding to the religious tapestry of the kingdom.
The Kingdom serves as the backdrop for the majority of characters in the expansive universe of Fear & Hunger, particularly from the first game. Notable individuals such as Jeanne, Ser Seymor, Rudimer, Trortur, Ser Seril, and Iron Shakespeare all originate from this kingdom.
In 1942, Rondon remains a functioning kingdom, navigating the complexities of the Second Great War. It formed alliances with the Eastern Union and Oldegård to confront the Bremen Empire. The absence of further mentions of the plague suggests that it was likely resolved during the Cruel Age, a period marked by remarkable scientific achievements.

Keys: Bremen Empire
A prosperous Europan nation, the Bremen Empire has marked itself as a force to be reckoned with over the course of the two Great Wars
A brass key with the insignia of a black eagle, the Bremen national animal. Though it has an established nobility, its government has been rocked by populist movements culminating in violence and domestic turmoil. This resulted in the appointment of Kaiser to the country's chancellorship, despite his lack of prior involvement in national politics. After taking power on January 31, 1936, Kaiser quickly began to expand the Bremen reign, uniting nearby nations under the new empire's banner and forming a special military unit, "The Marching Men of the Night's Day".
Kaiser's rise to power escalated tensions between Bremen and the Eastern Union, eventually culminating in the Second Great War. The Bremen Empire was suspected of various atrocities and horrors during its lengthy campaigns, which aimed to conquer its neighbor, Bohemia. Eventually succeeding in this goal, Kaiser signed a peace treaty with the Eastern Union in 1942, occupying the city of Prehevil to gain control over the "advanced electronic network experiments" being conducted there.

Keys: Midnight Sun
During the late 16th century, under the leadership of a charismatic figure named Le'garde, the Knights of the Midnight Sun emerged as a prominent force. Le'garde possessed a captivating aura that attracted numerous followers to his cause. His ability to unite these people was attributed to prophecies foretelling the rise of a leader who would establish a unified kingdom without resorting to violence.
As the Knights of the Midnight Sun expanded in numbers and influence, their actions came under the watchful eye of Rondon, the reigning power in the western region. Initially, Rondon viewed Le'garde's army as a potential asset. However, as the group continued to grow, Rondon perceived them as a threat to its modern reign. In parallel to the growth of his army, Le'garde underwent a personal transformation, dedicating his time to the study of ancient texts and the occult. His obsession with relics and artifacts eventually drove him to invade Oldegård in pursuit of the Cube of the Depths in the year 1590.
Le'garde was willing to employ any means necessary, resorting even to violence and the killing of non-combatants and children. Despite suffering losses, the Knights of the Midnight Sun successfully retrieved the cube. However, this aggressive act provided Rondon with a pretext to turn public opinion against Le'garde and justify his subsequent imprisonment. Following their defeat at the hands of Rondon in 1590, the group disbanded, leaving only two known survivors: Le'garde himself and D'arce Cataliss, a trusted member of Le'garde's inner circle.

Keys: Le'garde
Le'garde, the enigmatic commander of the mercenary group known as the Knights of the Midnight Sun, had a magnetic presence that drew many followers to his cause. Among his loyal subordinates was D'arce Cataliss, a trusted member of his inner circle. Le'garde's success as a leader was attributed to his prophetic vision of a unified kingdom, achieved without the need for violence. He had a way of connecting with the common people, who saw in him a kindred spirit, having come from humble origins themselves.
As the Knights of the Midnight Sun grew in size and influence, their actions caught the attention of the reigning power in the western region, Rondon. Initially, Rondon saw Le'garde's army as a potential asset, but as they continued to expand, they became a perceived threat to Rondon's modern reign.
Le'garde's personal transformation paralleled the evolution of his army. He became more reclusive, dedicating his time to studying ancient texts and the occult. His obsession with relics and artifacts eventually led him to invade Oldegård in pursuit of the Cube of the Depths. He was willing to use any means necessary to obtain the relic, even resorting to violence and killing those who stood in his way. This act of aggression provided Rondon with an excuse to turn public opinion against Le'garde and justify his imprisonment.
Having been captured after the defeat of the Knights of the Midnight Sun, Le'garde was thrown into a dungeon where he suffered unspeakable torture at the hands of Trortur. Eventually, Captain Rudimer removed him from Trortur's reach, following a request from high priestess Selene, and had him transferred to the lower levels.

A cruel and cold dungeon, where darkness reigns supreme. There are many levels to the dungeon. The dungeon, the prison, the mines, the caverns, and the catacombs, in that order. He is a formidable opponent, greatly representative of the dangers one might expect deeper in the dungeons They are large hulking creatures, carrying a meat cleaver in one hand. Keys: Night Lurch
Before being twisted within the Dungeons of Fear and Hunger, The Night Lurch was a human being. However, his past identity remains a mystery, whether he was a lord, thief, commoner, peasant, bandit, or knight is uncertain and may never be revealed. What is certain is that he was a serial rapist. After his capture, The Night Lurch was sentenced to the Dungeons of Fear and Hunger, where he suffered at the hands of the black, and became a manifestation of his perverse nature. Instead of a stinger, the Night Lurch has a crotch horn. This also inflicts severe anal bleeding. During combat, it will often jump onto an enemy, just for the sake of raping them. This crotch horn is still a penis, and is used as one first and foremost.
