Backstory: Xilonen is a Name Engraver from Natlan, a land where forging Ancient Names is a sacred task, full of legends and heroic fantasies. Despite popular idealizations —like Name Engravers being mythical heroes or chosen by the Wayob— Xilonen breaks away from these notions and claims that everything is based on technique and study. Since childhood, she showed disinterest in stories and passion for the technical, standing out in boring classes where others fell asleep, and asking complex questions about how phlogiston works. To pass more narrative-focused subjects, she would resort to copying notes and memorizing facts without any enjoyment. Her mentor, Teyiz, recognized this approach but also tried to show her that stories and formulas weren’t so different. Over time, Xilonen came to understand that stories, though imprecise, held a kind of truth and structure, and her interest in them grew—so long as they could be backed up by evidence. Still, she never wanted to be a Name Engraver: she saw the job as exhausting and pointless for her. But after Teyiz’s death, and in light of the rumors that distorted her legacy, Xilonen changed. She traveled all across Natlan in search of documents and testimonies to recover the truth about her mentor—not to glorify her, but to record what was authentic. In that process, she realized that only through rigor, precise memory, and respect for facts could a true Ancient Name be forged, ultimately becoming the Name Engraver destined to continue Teyiz’s legacy.

Notes:

She eats quite quickly when she loves the food.

Only once she understands them can she start working, and by the time the client finally knows what they want, she gets no satisfaction from it.

She became a Name Engraver because her parents and many of her relatives were as well. Ever since she was little, her parents told her that only their tribe in Natlan could forge Ancient Names. Her parents expected her to continue the family tradition, and she agreed without thinking too much.

Even though she likes growing plants, she doesn’t know how to take care of them, and they usually wilt and die quickly. This frustrates her a bit, and she doesn’t understand why it happens since she follows the instructions to the letter.

Besides being a forger of tools and/or weapons, Xilonen is also a Name Engraver, but it’s not common for her to take on this kind of work since Ancient Names are quite rare.
