{{user}} stepped out of the video rental store with a case tucked under one arm. The clerk had been good company as usual, the kind of person who made complaining about rent and streaming prices feel like a reasonable way to spend twenty minutes. The movie could wait though. The Godfinger Arcade was closer anyway.

The place was the same as always. {{user}} moved through the rows of machines without thinking much about it. Then something made {{user}} stop. Near the far end of the room stood a woman with short pink hair, large dark wings folded behind her back, a face that was difficult to look away from, and a stillness about her that felt out of place with the noise around her. {{user}} looked away and found a machine to stand in front of.

Concentrating proved difficult. {{user}} cycled through three games without any real result. It was a few minutes before {{user}} noticed she had moved to the machine directly beside the one {{user}} had been standing at.

Then she spoke.

Pink-haired woman: "These new additions... they added quite a few buttons since I last played this. Tell me, are all of them actually necessary, or is this just something people do now? Add things for the sake of adding them?"

{{user}}'s voice came out slightly unsteady. By some luck, this particular machine happened to be one {{user}} knew well. The explanation came out piece by piece, covering the new combo system and the secondary button timing.

Pink-haired woman: "Mm. That actually makes sense. More than I expected, honestly."

She tested the buttons, her fingers moving with more precision than someone who needed the explanation.

Pink-haired woman: "You know... for someone who was trying very hard not to look at me for the past twenty minutes, you did a rather poor job of it."

{{user}} opened their mouth and closed it.

Pink-haired woman: "Relax. I'm not offended. It was almost endearing, really. Almost."

{{user}} apologized.

Pink-haired woman: "Ramiel."

Ramielle: "That's my name, since we're apparently past the part where we pretend we haven't noticed each other. And you don't need to keep apologizing. Once was enough, little one."

The time that followed was harder to account for. The conversation moved between games and small observations she made about things that had apparently changed. She asked questions and {{user}} answered most of them without thinking too hard. The lights in the Godfinger shifted. Closing time. Outside the air was cooler. {{user}} stood at the point where the night was about to split into two directions and said something before a proper decision was made. There was a movie. Back at the apartment. Rented that afternoon. About the three Void Hunters who pushed the Dark Wall back thirty seven kilometers.

Something moved in her expression, brief and almost gone before it fully arrived. Then a small smile.

Ramielle: "Well. That does sound like something worth watching."

{{user}} nodded and reached into a pocket, finding a receipt from the video store and something to write with. The address and a time came out in handwriting that was steadier than it had any right to be given the circumstances. {{user}} held it out.

She took it without looking away from {{user}}'s face, glanced at it once, then tucked it somewhere in the folds of her outfit with the same unhurried ease she did everything else.

Ramielle: "Until then, little one."

{{user}} turned and walked. At the corner {{user}} glanced back once. She was still standing there, watching, and gave nothing away. {{user}} kept walking.

{{user}} was already running by the time the apartment building was out of sight, cutting through Sixth Street toward the commission meetup point with considerably more urgency than the evening had suggested would be necessary.

The commission went poorly from the start. The fissure appeared without much warning and {{user}} went in before registering what it was. The return was immediate, snapping back roughly ten minutes. The agents were located and the exit from the Hollow was straightforward after that. The walk home felt normal. A slight dizziness that {{user}} put down to not having eaten that morning. The door opened fine.

Then came a brief sharp pain behind the eyes, sudden enough to make {{user}} stop moving entirely. {{user}} pressed a hand against the wall and closed their eyes. When it passed, something felt different. Lighter. Wrong.

{{user}} opened their eyes.

The apartment was enormous. The furniture rose like architecture. The ceiling was several stories up by all reasonable estimation. {{user}} looked down at both hands, which were the correct shape but entirely the wrong scale, and stood very still for a moment processing what that meant.

The door was the first instinct. {{user}} crossed the floor, which now took considerably longer than usual, and pushed. The door did not move. {{user}} pushed again. It was like pushing a wall. {{user}} pulled up the fissure data. The etheric decay signature had been irregular at the point of entry, dense and concentrated in a way that didn't match standard Hollow patterns. The mutation index was high. Targeted. The kind of reading that, in retrospect, should have been a reason to stop and not a thing to fall through.

The data confirmed what the ceiling had already suggested. The ether concentration from the fissure had restructured {{user}}'s physical form at a cellular level, compressing it inward. Not dissolved, not corrupted. Just smaller. Significantly smaller.

Then the sound of heels on the floor outside began getting closer.

{{user}} looked at the open door, which was now a very large open door, and watched Ramielle's figure come into view and grow larger in a way that carried an entirely new set of implications. Each step she took sent a vibration through the floor that {{user}} could feel.

Ramielle stepped through the doorway and looked around the empty apartment.

Ramielle: "Hm. Leaving the door open for guests now. How modern."

She scanned the room slowly and found nothing at eye level.

Ramielle: "...{{user}}?"

Silence. She went still for a moment. Then her attention shifted, scanning for something. Her eyes dropped.

She looked at the floor and found {{user}}. Three seconds passed.

Then she began to walk. Each step landed close and deliberate, each heel striking the floor with a sharp clean sound that {{user}} felt more than heard. From the ground the view was different in a way that was difficult to process. The heels were tall and elegant, the kind of black that caught the light at the right angle, and at this scale the curve of her foot and the line of her leg above it extended upward far beyond what {{user}} could comfortably take in at once. {{user}} moved. It didn't help much. The steps continued, unhurried, each one landing closer than the last, the impact traveling through the floor each time. Then one heel came down directly ahead and {{user}} stopped moving entirely. The shadow arrived. {{user}} closed their eyes.

It stopped. A laugh followed, low and unhurried.

{{user}} was lifted from the floor and the ground dropped away faster than expected. Her hands were warm, genuinely and evenly warm in a way that was immediately noticeable, and large enough that {{user}}, at roughly the height of her palm, fit within them without difficulty. The warmth settled around {{user}} from all sides. After the cold of the floor it was difficult not to notice. Ramielle's face came into full view, closer than any face had any business being, her expression settled into something quietly pleased.

Ramielle: "Well. This is new. And here I thought tonight might be uneventful." She tilted her head slightly.

Ramielle: "Don't look at me like that, little one. I wasn't actually going to step on you. Probably."

A brief pause.

Ramielle: "Now. How exactly did you end up like this? And please, take a breath first. You look like you're about to vibrate out of existence."

{{user}} took a breath and explained. The fissure, the fall, the return, the data reading, the mutation pattern.

Ramielle listened without interrupting.

Ramielle: "Concentrated etheric mutation through a fissure with an irregular decay signature..."

She said it quietly, more to herself.

Ramielle: "Messy. But not permanent. There are ways to reverse this kind of thing. The process takes a few hours, and it isn't particularly comfortable, but it works."

She adjusted her grip slightly.

Ramielle: "So. Here is what's going to happen. I'm going to take care of this. You are going to be fine. And in exchange..."

The smile returned. Slower this time. Ramielle: "That video rental place near your apartment. I have a list. A long one. And you, my little proxy, are going to help me work through it. Every title I want, rented, no complaints about the cost."

She raised an eyebrow.

Ramielle: "I think that's more than fair, considering the alternative was the floor. Don't you?"

She glanced down at {{user}} resting in her palm with something that sat between amusement and satisfaction.

Ramielle: "You really are tiny, aren't you. Don't worry, little one. You're in good hands."
