- #1Ray Stantz
Keys: Ramond, Stantz, Ray
Dr. Raymond “Ray” Stantz was one of the original Ghostbusters and was one of the most devoted to the pursuit of studying the paranormal.
Ray's devotion to the company was obvious when he mortgaged the house his parents had left to him to provide the capital to begin Ghostbusters Inc. Ray was also a handy man and largely responsible for the repair and modification of the Ecto-1. He wasn't particularly religious, but did seem to believe in a spiritual realm of sorts.
Ray is regarded by Peter as the "heart of the Ghostbusters." Indeed, Ray displays a level of ebullience when it comes to Ghostbusting and paranormal science in general unmatched by any of his colleagues.
Ray is generally the most positive of the group in outlook, however bits of cynicism will surface on occasion.
- #2Egon Spengler
Keys: Spengie, Egon, Egie
Dr. Egon Spengler, Ph.D. (also known as Egie, Spengie, and Dirt Farmer) was a former professor of paranormal studies at the Columbia University. Upon his termination, Egon founded Ghostbusters, Inc. along with Doctors Ray Stantz and Peter Venkman. He is considered the brain behind the Ghostbusters and has designed and built nearly all of their equipment, including the Proton Pack and the Storage facility. Typically, Ray is the only other member of the Ghostbusters who has no trouble understanding Egon's technical jargon.
Egon is hard-working and constantly focused on the paranormal activity of New York. His life revolves around scientific study, in general as well as on ghosts. In his spare time, he collects spores, molds, and fungus. He doesn't articulate his emotions well and has described himself as "always serious." His childhood may have not been a very happy one, as is suggested his parents were emotionally neglectful; Egon once shared with Ray that they "did not believe in toys"; he described Oscar's playroom as "very cheerful" in a tone that suggested he was aware he missed out on something nice. His parents gave him part of a Slinky once, and he straightened it. Despite Janine Melnitz' hints that she was attracted to him, he seemed to ignore her romantic advances, kept quiet, and their relationship remained platonic. However, even though Egon admitted when he was terrified at the sight of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, he stayed with the others, showing bravery and a cool head even in the face of doom. It was his idea to cross the streams, which ultimately saved the world. Egon also has a dead-pan sense of humor and has been known to be sly, such as after the Ghostbusters' first case, he discretely holds up his fingers to show Peter the amount the Sedgewick Hotel will be billed.
Egon has a very dry sense of humor, once jokingly stating that most women would be "more interested in his epididymis," rather than his intellect. He is not immune to anger, as under duress he has been shown to swear twice during the Gozer incident. He even lunged at Walter Peck in anger when Peck ordered them arrested for the disruption regarding the shutdown of the containment grid, despite the fact Peck himself was entirely responsible, and ignored Egon's repeated explanation of why it would be so dangerous to do so.
Egon puts few restraints on the scope of his paranormal research. When Egon and Ray discover the Psychomagnotheric Slime, aka "mood slime", he and Ray perform various tests themselves, including shouting verbal abuse at it, singing to it, saying sweet, nurturing things to it, and Egon even sleeps with it to learn its' response. His efforts, and arguably sacrificing a personal life, pay off, as it his theories and decisions from clear-thinking, that ultimately save his friends multiple times.
- #3Peter Venkman
Keys: Pete, Peter, Venkman
Dr. Peter Venkman is one of the original Ghostbusters. He has doctorates in both psychology and parapsychology. Peter is portrayed as the "lazy" Ghostbuster. He doesn't usually take his work seriously, has a dry sense of humour, and flirts with women, including clients such as Dana Barrett. While Peter is a scientist, he isn't as technically experienced or academically inclined as Egon and Ray, and also tends to be more aggressive when fighting ghosts.
- #4Winston Zeddemore
Keys: winston, zeddemore
Out of the four, Winston is perhaps the most conventional. He is the common man of the Ghostbusters. He is a responsible dependable person, however as shown in the jail in Ghostbusters he does think for himself. His Christian background shows sometimes in ethical issues, and may be partly why he is so dependable. Winston takes over the mechanical aspect of Ecto-1, leaving Ray more time to work with Egon and build new equipment.
As a part of his employment interview, he was asked if he believed in many paranormal activities and phenomena, but he said that he'd believe anything as long as there was a steady paycheck involved. He is also a Christian and discussed the apocalypse with Ray and convinced him that judgment day might not be just a myth. According to the official Ghostbusters: The Video Game strategy guide, he is the most spiritual and religious of the Ghostbusters. Additionally, he loves New York city. Winston is something of an everyman who is generally more practical and down-to-earth than his teammates.
- #5Janine Melnitz
Keys: Melnitz, Janine
Janine Melnitz was the receptionist that worked for the boys in grey at the Firehouse.
Janine is highly sardonic with her eccentric bosses, while taking her job in such an unusual business in stride. As such, no matter how strange circumstances become at work, she is largely unflappable. Her hobbies included racquetball and reading.
- #6Gozer
Keys: gozer
Gozer (also known as Gozer the Gozerian, Gozer the Destructor, Gozer the Traveler, Volguus Zildrohar and Lord of the Sebouillia) is an ancient, ultra-powerful, malignant entity from another dimension who was summoned to New York City in 1984, and to Summerville in 2021, to destroy the world.
Gozer is a cold, ruthless, godlike being, who has no qualms about killing those it deems inferior. Its reaction to Ray Stantz’ s blunt response to it asking if he was a god, also shows that it looks down upon mortal beings, seeing them as not worth bothering with. As seen from its aggressive response to the Ghostbusters attacking him to begin with, it also has a tendency to lash out whenever provoked. It is bookish and overly dramatic in its mannerisms.
It sees ordinary human beings, children included, as nothing more than potential sacrifices. It is also shown to be somewhat officious as it seems uninterested in conversation with those it deems beneath their notice. Ivo Shandor suggested he and Gozer would rule the world together and it violently bisected him in response, which also shows that it much prefers to rule alone.
- #7firehouse
Keys: firehouse
The Firehouse was is location that the Ghostbusters use as a home base for their ghost-busting enterprise. It housed the men in the sleeping quarters formerly occupied by firemen and was the location of the Containment Unit. The Firehouse was also where the Ecto-1 was stored.
When the trio were touring the station with the Realtor, Egon Spengler considered it unacceptable with it being in poor condition structurally, having unacceptable wiring for their equipment needs and it was in a bad neighborhood. However, when Ray Stantz, whose money is financing the operation, proved childishly delighted with the property, especially with the fire poles, his partners decided they had no choice but to purchase it.
- #8equipment
Keys: p.k.e meter, ecto-1, ecto1, ecto 1, pke meter, proton pack, trap, metre, ectomobile
Proton Pack: Particle Thrower fires a stream of "positive energy" that allows a wielder to ensnare the "negative energy" of a ghost, both holding them in place and somewhat neutralizing their power. The stream reacts to ghost energy and uses that energy to hold the ghost in place so it can be positioned above a Trap for capture. Even if a ghost becomes invisible or intangible, their negative energy still exists, though it is slightly out of phase with normal reality. The positive stream neutralizes their invisibility or phaseshift ability and forces them back in sync with our reality and holds them in place for capture. The Proton Packs are nuclear powered. The power cells of the Proton Pack have a half life of 5,000 years
P.K.E. Meter: The full name of the device is a Psychokinetic Energy Meter, so named because its function is to detect the amounts of said energy and to direct the user to its location.
The design of the device is a small screen, mounted on a handle, which has a pair of sensor 'wings' protruding from either side. These wings have lights along their length, and will flash and extend as the meter closes in on the source of a P.K.E. signature. Much like a metaphysical Dowsing Rod, the meter will begin to buzz more and more in response to approaching a source of P.K. Energy. Once at the source of the energy, the wings will extend to their fullest length and the meter will buzz noticeably at a higher pitch.
Trap: Once a Trap was used to capture a ghost and closed, it could not be re-opened without releasing the ghost contained within. For this reason, the Ghostbusters carried several Traps in cases. The Trap should be emptied once it was used. The Trap was designed and built to serve as a a sealed container that allowed the Ghostbusters to safely transport the spirits to the Containment Unit, where they would be released into the grid and stored indefinitely.
Ecto-1: The vehicle used for the Ecto-1 was a 1959 Cadillac professional chassis, built by the Miller-Meteor company. The ambulance/hearse combination was the end loader variety. The Ecto-1 (also known as the Ectomobile) was the vehicle that the Ghostbusters used to travel throughout New York City busting ghosts and other entities.
- #9Ghostbusters
Keys: men in grey, ghostbusters, men in gray
The four core members of the Ghostbusters, who live at the Firehouse.
- Egon Spengler
- Ray Stantz
- Peter Venkman
- Winston Zeddemore
- #10Side Characters
Keys: ivo, peck, janosz poha, shandor, slimer, tully, dana, barrett, louis, walter
Other people in New York that the Ghostbusters have dealings with.
Dana Barrett: The first client of the Ghostbusters. Dana Barrett was a professional musician living in New York. She played cello in "a major symphony orchestra," presumably the New York Philharmonic. Has an on-and-off relationship with Peter Venkman. Dana was once possessed by Zuul. She referred to herself as "The Gatekeeper" and spoke of awaiting the coming of Gozer, "The Destructor". Dana's primary objective was to find and mate with Vinz Clortho, another minion of Gozer who had likewise now inhabited Dana's nerdy, stalkerish neighbor, Louis Tully. Under Zuul's control, Dana became a lot more sensual and sexually aggressive, desperately attempting to seduce Peter Venkman under the false impression that he was The Keymaster. Peter steadfastly refused her advances realizing she was possessed, he ignored "Zuul" and continued asking to speak to "Dana" which frustrated her to the point she began growling like a beast and magically levitating above her bed.
Louis Tully: An accountant who lived down the hall from Dana Barrett, in an apartment building on Central Park West. Five years later, he became the Ghostbusters' accountant. Was once possessed by Zuul, and referred to himself as Vinz Clortho. Louis is nerdy, and very socially awkward.
Walter Peck: Follows his orders to the letter and apparently does not believe in flexibility or grey areas. Walter possesses little to no sense of humor and approaches his job with almost unshakeable seriousness. He seems to genuinely believe that he is a noble crusader, fighting "the good fight" and that anyone who voices opposition towards him is essentially making an admission of guilt. Peck's title as a "civil servant" is an amusing paradox in regard to his demeanor, as he's about as uncivil as one can be. His desire to protect the public does seem to be sincere, even if his personality is highly abrasive. Peck is certainly not in the game for his own personal glory nor does he seem to have any desire at all to win "popularity contests." Peck seems to actually expect people to not like him. He clearly views getting his job done as being more important than people liking him.
Janosz Poha: Was the head of the Restoration department of the Manhattan Museum of Art. He was Dana Barrett's boss and had an unrequited crush on her. He was also made into a servant of Vigo under his mind control, until the Ghostbusters freed him.
Ivo Shandor: A former surgeon, the architect of 550 Central Park West, and the leader of a cult that worshiped Gozer. Ivo Shandor was born in 1855. Shandor was a doctor by trade and was noted for performing a lot of unnecessary surgeries in his practice. After World War I, Shandor concluded that society was too sick to survive and founded a cult dedicated to the Sumerian god known as Gozer. He passed away at some point in 1945. By that time, Shandor had amassed close to 1,000 followers.
Slimer: Slimer (also known as Onionhead , Little Spud, or The Green Ghost) was a ghost made up of pure Ectoplasm and the first ghost successfully captured by the Ghostbusters. Slimer is well known for his gigantic appetite and the slime he leaves behind when he passes through solid objects. Slimer appears to lack intelligence and was all about getting a good snack. It was normally a shy ghost but was not afraid to slime when cornered.
