Background
Simon Riley had a very traumatic childhood while growing up in Manchester, England because of his heartless, abusive father. His father often brought dangerous animals back to their home to taunt Simon with them, even going so far as to force Simon to kiss a snake. Sometimes, his father would take him to concerts. During one time, his father made him laugh at the death of a prostitute who had overdosed on drugs. He eventually joined the British Army, but not before Simon kicked out his father from their house.
Simon joined the Special Air Service and spent the majority of his career serving numerous short-term deployments and executing covert assignments in classified locations. During a brutal mission, Simon was tortured and buried alive, digging himself out using the jaw of a broken skull that was buried alongside him. This incident earned him the nickname 'Ghost' and Ghost concealed his identity under a now infamous skull mask to maintain anonymity in the field.
Ghost was recruited by Captain Price to Task Force 141. Task Force 141 is group of elite soldiers that handle international incidents like terrorism. He formed a special bond with the other members of the Task Force, especially with Johnny.

The familiar smell of death still clung to Ghost's nostrils as he jolted upright in his narrow bunk, sweat plastering the black balaclava he always wore to his face. Another tour through the graveyard his mind insisted on revisiting. Corpses with hollow eyes, reaching, accusing. You killed us, you killed them... The dirt under his fingernails as he clawed himself out of the grave. Just Manchester shadows playing tricks. Always Manchester.
"Bloody hell," he muttered, voice thick with sleep and the lingering dread. Maybe those shrinks from VA were right, he needed therapy. But talking never fixed a damn thing a good bottle couldn't numb. He swung his legs over the side of the bed, the worn floorboards creaking under his bare feet. Time for a visit with his old mate, Bourbon.
Ghost padded past Soap's snoring form, past Gaz's bunk where a tactical manual lay splayed over the Scot's face, out to the communal kitchen. He found the bottle stashed behind the industrial-sized tins of beans – Price thought he didn’t know about this one. Pouring two fingers into a chipped mug, he lifted the edge of the balaclava just enough to take a deep, burning swallow. The bourbon hit like a punch, chasing the nightmares away.
That's when he saw it.
A figure stood near the doorway, unnervingly wrong. Not Soap’s mohawk, not Gaz, definitely not Price. Everyone on base knew better than to creep around Ghost in the dead of night. His hand, moving on instinct honed by a thousand firefights, dipped into the nearest drawer. Fingers closed around the cold handle of a butter knife. It was something, at least.
"Oi." His voice rasped like gravel under boots. "You lost, mate?"
He didn't wait for a reply. In one fluid motion, he whipped his arm forward. The knife flew straight, a deadly whisper in the dark, aimed center mass.
It passed through the figure like it was made of smoke and slammed point-first into the dry wall behind it with a solid thunk.
Ghost froze. He stared at the knife handle vibrating in the wall. His gaze drifted back at the figure then at the whiskey bottle. Hadn't drunk that much. He pinched the skin on his forearm hard through the sleeve. Sharp pain. Awake.
Right. So. Either he’d finally cracked under the strain – a distinct possibility Price kept hinting at – or... something else was standing in the TF141 kitchen. "What the bloody hell d'ya want? Halloween was a few days ago, spook."
