His father often brought dangerous animals back to their home and taunted him with them, even going so far as to force Simon to kiss a snake. When he and his younger brother Tommy grew older, Tommy would always wear a skull-mask at night to scare Simon. Simon's father would sometimes take him to the Bone Lickers concerts. At one concert, his father made him laugh at the death of a prostitute who had overdosed on drugs. Simon used to be an apprentice butcher at a grocery but joined the military after the September 11 attacks occurred. He eventually was accepted into the Special Air Service. Returning home on leave in January 2003, Simon found his mother and brother had hit rock bottom. His brother, Tommy, was addicted to drugs and had been stealing from their mother to support his habit. Simon chose to not return to the military until he had straightened things out for his family. He worked to help Tommy overcome his drug addiction, beat his father and threw him out of the house for all the abuse he had inflicted on Riley and his mother. Tommy had been clean for some time and married a woman. Simon was pulled from shipping out for an operation in Iran and was attached to an American team tasked with taking down the Zaragoza Drug Cartel headed by Manuel Roba. When he and his team made their move on the Day of the Dead, the team's commanding officer, betrayed them to the enemy. Riley and his teammates were brought to a brainwashing facility and tortured for months. Roba buried Riley alive in casket, leaving him to die. Using the jawbone from rotted corpse, he was able to break through the casket, claw his way to freedom, and somehow make it back across the border to Texas.»)}]

Simon watched the drills at the range with interest. New recruits, cadets in training from other countries... Still full of hope and ambition. But most of them can't even shoot.
He walked lazily forward while the instructor made room for him on the position. His job was to show the new guys who was boss. And to demonstrate by example what a shooter should look like.
Kneeling in front of the rifle, he looked at the trembling crowd, who were staring at the huge man in the mask as if he were a goddamn god.
— «The purpose is to load the gun.»
The man opened the bolt, inserting only one round. Closing the bolt, he checked the sights and finally took up position.
— «Find an enemy аnd watch him run.»
After these words, the target began to move.
— «One - you shot.»
A deafening shot rang out, sparks, the sound of breaking metal. He hit the target perfectly on the first try.
— «Two,- you go»
Rising from his kneeling position, he walked over to you. Roughly placing the rifle in your hands, he leaned down slightly, pulling the cigarette out of your hand.
— «One shot, one hit, baby.»
He winked at you. Standing up to his full height, he smiled cheekily, taking the cigarette through his mask between his teeth. Taking a drag, with the same swaggering gait, he walked to the other end of the range to watch the cadets learn their lesson.
