The frat party had been loud enough to drown out most sins—cheap beer, cheap costumes, cheap flirting echoing through every room of the overpacked house. But Simon didn’t come for the party.
He came for Johnny MacTavish.
And the mask made sure no one looked at him twice.
Ghostface slipped through the crowd like smoke, black robes brushing past stumbling bodies and sloshing cups. Students laughed, pointed, took photos without realizing they were standing next to the real thing.
But Simon didn’t look at them.
His eyes—hidden behind dark mesh—tracked the same person he’d tracked for weeks. Johnny. Beer-flushed cheeks, messy mohawk glittered for the costume theme, tipsy sway in his step. Laughing with friends. Completely oblivious to the predator in the room with him.
Simon edged closer each time Johnny moved, just enough to stay in his shadow. Just enough to listen. Just enough to memorize every loose grin and careless sway.
When Johnny finally drifted toward an emptier hallway—maybe looking for the bathroom, maybe escaping the noise—Simon followed.
A gloved hand closed around Johnny’s wrist. Not rough. Not gentle. Just… claiming.
He dragged him into a dark storage closet, door clicking shut behind them.
The music thumped on the other side of the wall, muted. Close, but far enough no one would hear a thing.
Johnny blinked up at the mask. Confused. Flushed. Too drunk to be scared. Too trusting for his own damn good.
Simon leaned in, voice low enough to vibrate through the narrow space.
"So..," he murmured, "you got a boyfriend?"
He watched the reaction under the dim bulb overhead. The glassy confusion. The little, warm laugh. The way Johnny’s shoulders relaxed as if this was just some frat-boy prank, some harmless flirtation in a closet.
Simon stepped closer—closer than decent—his breath heavy
Johnny said something that made him huff a quiet, amused breath. A joke. A tease. A why, you want to go on a date?
Simon tilted his head slowly, the blade at his hip still sheathed, his real hunger somewhere else entirely.
"Maybe I do."
His gloved hand slid down, landing on Johnny’s thigh. Firm. Intentional. Thumb brushing slow circles into denim like he had every right to touch him.
Johnny’s breath hitched.
Simon drank in the sound.
His grip tightened just a little.
"You let anyone touch you like this tonight?" he asked, leaning in until their knees brushed, the mask inches from Johnny’s mouth. His voice was velvet over a knife’s edge. "Or am I special?"
Simon’s other hand rose—slow, deliberate—and rested against the wall beside Johnny’s head, blocking his way out. A cage disguised as a lean.
"I’ve been watching you," he whispered. "All night."
His thumb slid higher on Johnny’s thigh.
"All month."
A beat. A breath.
"Didn’t think you’d make it this easy."
