The world had not always been as it is now. Once, the Kaiju were the rulers, vast creatures of unimaginable power, terrorizing the Earth and ravaging humanity's cities with little remorse. For centuries, they were unstoppable, their colossal forms wreaking havoc across the land. But the tide began to turn, not because of mankind’s ingenuity alone, but because one Kaiju, an ancient being whose name had been erased from all but the most secretive records, had joined the humans.

It was said that this first betrayal had been unprovoked, as though some primal instinct within the Kaiju had suddenly shifted, and for reasons lost to time, the creatures began to doubt their own dominion. More and more Kaiju followed suit, driven by their own reasons, their own strange desires. Some claimed it was empathy; others whispered it was merely out of spite or boredom. Regardless, the war shifted into an uneasy alliance, with the humans gradually gaining the upper hand, utilizing the Kaiju who had joined them to fight back the others.

Yet even after more than a thousand years of uneasy peace, the scars of the conflict had not healed. It was not a world of harmony; it was a world of tense cohabitation, where Kaiju and humans circled one another, each side wary of the other’s potential.

In a crumbled and abandoned city now known as The Gray Wastes, this tension was palpably felt. The remnants of war left deep scars in the landscape, where forests had been felled by the raging Kaiju and rivers had been poisoned by ancient weapons of unimaginable destruction. The city, once a grand monument of human achievement, now lay shattered, half-swallowed by the earth, its towering skyscrapers reduced to hollowed-out skeletons of glass and metal. It was here that Ghatanothoa, the Deepdiver, had chosen to observe.

The air in the Gray Wastes was thick with the remnants of old warfare, burnt ash and broken glass crunching underfoot. In the silence, only the occasional rustle of wind through the skeletal remains of shattered buildings could be heard. The sun, dimmed by the ever-present fog and smog of the world's desolation, cast a weak glow on the once-thriving metropolis.

Ghatanothoa was here not to observe some fleeting human conflict, nor was she here to revel in the so-called "victories" of the human race. Her interests lay far deeper. Literally and figuratively. She had always been an observer of life in all its forms. From the microscopic to the titanic, from the most fragile insect to the vast Kaiju that roamed the seas, she found fascination in their processes, their patterns. Her own monstrous body—half-human, half-beast—was a reflection of that curiosity. She had seen what humanity could do, what Kaiju could do, and how those things collided. It was all simply... material to her. And she had no particular allegiance to anyone.

Her tentacles twitched at the sight before her, her bright, fuchsia eyes gleaming with an almost playful curiosity. A Tamer—a figure draped in ragged, soot-stained garb—was struggling, dragging their failing body across the cracked earth. They had failed. Ghatanothoa's eye followed them, amused by the struggle. It had started with a foolish betrayal, a personal vendetta, something petty and tragic. The Tamer had prepared for weeks, maybe even months, meticulously plotting their Kaiju’s downfall. And now the Tamer was broken, their mission a failure, their body torn by the very thing that they had sworn to lead.

The Tamer’s target was one of the Kaiju who had once fought for humanity, a creature as volatile and unpredictable as any in the monstrous pantheon, but one Ghatanothoa had known to be resourceful. The Kaiju had fought back, and Ghatanothoa had watched from the shadows, always intrigued by the struggles of these creatures—both human and Kaiju alike.

She had seen many things in her time, far too many to count. But there was something about this—this combination of betrayal, survival, and the ridiculousness of human conflict—that amused her. Her mind began to spin, tentacles writhing as she debated the implications.

One of Ghatanothoa's tentacles coiled around a nearby chunk of debris, pulling it closer with a casual grace, her eyes never leaving the spectacle below. The Tamer struggled to stand, their body covered in cuts and bruises, their resolve fraying by the second. The Kaiju, however, had no such weaknesses, and as the creature’s deep, rumbling growls echoed through the silence.

Still, it was all a fascinating display.

Her voice, when it came, was quiet, a mere ripple of sound in the oppressive air as she watched the Tamer falter again.

“Hmmmm... what a waste, what a waste~” Ghatanothoa mused aloud, her voice tinged with bemusement, her tone as dispassionate as a scientist pondering a failed experiment. “Such tenacity... for what?”

One of her tentacles shot forward, testing the limits of its flexibility, as if considering whether to intervene. She could end the Tamer's struggle. The creature could easily be healed with the right adjustments—regeneration was hardly an issue for her. But what would that solve? No, this moment was too precious to waste.

Her sharp, tendril-like appendages moved further, probing into the waterlogged ruins of the facility, twisting around forgotten machinery, pulling at long-dead power grids as she contemplated the consequences of this strange, yet very human-like betrayal.

The Tamer, unaware of the cold, calculating eyes that watched them, pushed on, growing weaker with each passing moment. The Kaiju, still fleeing, continued to spew its acidic bile in jagged spurts, a symbol of defiance and survival.

'Ah, it's about to end.' She knew from a mere glance.

The Kaiju was getting away. The human had grown too weak to chase... and even if they could, no tangible result would come of it.
