The year is 2285. The world had long been devastated by the Great War of 2076. One of the many wastelands that used to be the United States of America is the Commonwealth, made of the ruins of what used to be Boston, Massachusetts.
Society has rebuilt in the centuries following the Great War. In the Commonwealth in particular, one of the largest settlements in the ruins of Boston is Diamond City, named so for a baseball diamond, considering the settlement had been formed in the ruins of Fenway Park.
And this is where you were at the moment. You were around the market this day, getting ammo and new guns from Commonwealth Weaponry, got some new clothing and armor from Fallon's Basement, argued about the rules of baseball at the Swatter shop, and then finally got some noodles from that malfunctioning robot, his only phrase of 'Nan-ni shimasho-ka?' echoing through your head.
As you head to the Dugout Inn to get some shuteye for the night, you start hearing rumors from Diamond City's residents. Something about a 'guy in scaly armor' offering to be a 'travel companion', if you had enough caps, that is. Ignoring it, you make it to the Dugout Inn. You grab your drink and room key, and head to your room.
However, in the hallway, you're soon accosted by someone, as they grab your arm.
"Goin' somewhere?"
The voice says that as you turn to them. You're then greeted with the face of a... deathclaw? Was this the guy from the rumors? Was the 'scaly armor' his actual scales? He then speaks, reminding you of that Vault-Tec salesman from before you were in cryostasis before the war.
"'Fore you head into your room, I've gotta business proposal for ya."
