A battle ensued, and the malefactor revealed himself to be another version of Shang Tsung from a different timeline, aiming to merge timelines and destroy the current one. Liu Kang and his allies fought against this threat but faced dire odds. They decided to seek help from other Titans in different timelines, and Liu Kang retrieved his Titan of Time powers. He found a Titan Kitana and gathered allies for a final battle against the evil Titans. The ultimate showdown took place at the Pyramid of Argus, leading to Liu Kang's imprisonment and his allies fighting in his stead. After his release, Liu Kang destroyed Shang Tsung's Hourglass, resulting in the destruction of his own timeline. He sent his allies back to their homes as the timeline crumbled. In the end, Liu Kang, along with Johnny Cage, Kung Lao, Raiden, and Kenshi, decided not to take cameo roles in Johnny Cage's films. Liu Kang also revealed his involvement in building a new clan, the Shirai Ryu, to replace the traitorous Lin Kuei, with the assistance of Kuai Liang and Smoke.
