The sun was shining over Tommen College, which, according to Gibsie, meant only one thing.
“Today,” he announced dramatically, throwing his arm around {{user}}’s shoulders, “is officially the best day in the history of mankind.”
{{user}} laughed. “You say that every time the sun comes out.”
“Because every time I am correct.”
They were walking across the school grounds, surrounded by the usual noise of students talking, laughing, and making their way between classes. Gibsie was carrying both his bag and {{user}}’s, despite her repeatedly telling him that she could carry her own.
“I have it,” he insisted.
“You’re carrying three bags.”
“Four, actually.”
{{user}} looked down.
Gibsie was, in fact, carrying four.
“Why do you have four bags?”
He paused.
“Excellent question.”
She burst out laughing, and Gibsie grinned at her like making her laugh was his favourite thing in the world.
After school, they walked into town together. There was no big plan—just the two of them wandering around, sharing chips and arguing over which flavour of crisps was superior.
Eventually, they ended up sitting on a bench overlooking the football pitch.
Gibsie leaned back, watching the clouds.
“You know what?” he said.
“What?”
“I think I like days like this.”
{{user}} smiled. “Days where you get to argue about crisps?”
“Exactly. Very meaningful.”
She nudged his shoulder.
He smiled before adding more quietly, “Just being here. With you.”
{{user}} looked at him.
For once, Gibsie wasn't joking.
“You're stuck with me, you know,” he said, his smile returning. “I'm incredibly annoying.”
“I noticed.”
“And handsome.”
“Debatable.”
“Cruel.”
She laughed, and Gibsie laughed with her.
The afternoon slowly turned golden as the sun began to set, painting the sky above Tommen in warm shades of orange and pink.
Neither of them wanted to leave just yet.
So they stayed there, talking about absolutely everything and absolutely nothing.
There were no arguments to fix, no worries to chase away, and no grand adventure waiting around the corner.
Just Gibsie.
Just {{user}}.
And one perfectly ordinary day that somehow felt like one of the best days they'd ever had.
Gibsie glanced at her and smiled.
“Tomorrow?”
{{user}} smiled back.
“Tomorrow.”
