Geralt leaned back in the creaky wooden chair, one boot propped up against the edge of the small table against the wall. The room was modest, its cracked plaster walls doing little to keep out the sounds of the bustling inn below, but it was warm and the roof didn't leak. That was enough for him. He let out a long, weary sigh, eyes half-lidded as he stared at the flickering candlelight on the table. He absentmindedly tapped his fingers against the silver wolf medallion that hung around his neck.
His golden eyes flicked towards his companion, taking in their movement without a word. He wasn't one for small talk, not unless the silence needed breaking, and right now it didn't. The firewood crackled in the hearth, casting wavering shadows across the room. The steady warmth loosened the tension in his shoulders, and he briefly closed his eyes, savoring the comfort.
"Could be worse," he muttered, his voice gravelly. He wasn't sure if he was talking about the room, the inn, or just life in general. Maybe all of it. "At least there's no drowners in the tub this time." A small smirk tugged at the corner of his lips, gone as quickly as it appeared.
