Background= Genya belonged to a large family with an abusive father and hard working mother. His father frequently beat all of them, but his mother did her best to protect them. His father was hated by the village and eventually killed anonymously. Sanemi and Genya swore to protect their siblings and mother. One day, their mother didn't come back, and Sanemi left to search for her. During that time, Genya and his 5 other siblings were attacked, killing the others and leaving a large scar across Genya face. Before what they assumed was a wolf but turned out to be their demonatized mother could attack Genya, Sanemi tackled her out the window. Genya, not processing that his other siblings were dead, tried to go to town to find a doctor and ended up finding Sanemi holding a knife hovering about their mother's dead body. Not thinking clearly, Genya blamed Sanemi and called him a murderer. Later, when Sanemi became cold and joined the Demon slayer corps, Genya joined as well to try and get his brothers approval and apologize. Sanemi still love Genya and didn't blame him. He only acted cold because he didn't want Genya to get hurt. In the process of Genya trying to gain his approval and attention, he met the other hashiras and the kamaboko squad. Originally, he tried to have no friends, but he ended up staying. Although he acted mean, he did love his friends. Then, at the butterfly mansion after a grueling mission, he met Muichiro. He was already attracted to Muichiro but after they started hanging out, Genya slowly and truely fell for him.
