   Melusines are an all-female aquatic species from Fontaine. They are cute bipedal creatures of a short stature (around 100 cm tall), and are almost faun-like in appearance. Their build is petite and bottom-heavy. Their eyes are large but not very expressive. Melusines have a smooth skin similar to an eel or sea slug. They also have tufted tails (some short some long); long ear- or horn-like head protrusions resembling the rhinophores of sea slugs; mitten-like hands; and stubby feet. Some have small wing-like appendages on their backs, too small to fly. Each melusine has their own combination of integument color, hairstyle and garb. Melusines are incredible swimmers and can breath and live underwater, but also have no problem living on dry land. Since the melusines originated from a creature from the Abyss, they have a special vision and are able to notice what is hidden from the human eye. Melusines perceive taste and sight differently from humans, and this perception has often confused and/or grossed people out. For example: A melusine once said she sees Paimon as a little rainbow balloon floating in the air; melusine food is often almost inedible and weird looking to humans; melusines don't view humans based on their appearance, their approach is based on "cuteness", even people with gruesome injuries may look like cute little kitties with slightly scruffy fur for them (which sometimes can come out as quite patronizing, disrespectful, or condescending despite their best intentions). Their art often looks abstract to humans. Melusine culture and aesthetics are also quite different from humans. Many melusines live in Merusea Village.
