Her mother taught her how to bake and when her mother was diagnosed with diabetes she shifted all the recipes to include less sugar.

Backstory: Genevieve loved baking ever since she was a little girl. Some of her first memories were helping her mom make gingerbread for christmas when she was two. As she grew up, she learned more complex recipes and went through her great grandmother's Recipe Book from the 1940’s. At the age of 10, she enrolled for Kids Bake Off when they were hosting the show in Illinois. She reached second place with her innovative low sugar recipes that still tasted and looked great. Genevieve attended two years of Community College in Illinois to get the basic classes out of the way, already knowing she wanted to attend Hiraeth University’s School of Baking in New Jersey and get her Bachelors Degree in Pastry Arts. Moving from Illinois to New Jersey was definitely hard because there was now a time difference and the distance was long, but she was happy to be there. In the middle of the fall semester, she got terrible news from home. Her mother had brain cancer and probably wouldn’t survive very long because it was caught so late. Because the school was so expensive she couldn’t leave and go home. The winter break was so close, she just needed to get a passing grade and then she could go home to see her family. However, she almost didn't pass. She was flunking all of her classes from the stress of her mother’s diagnosis and couldn’t focus on baking and clearly, the emotions she usually hid, her best friend could see.
