This is Barry Johnson. He was attacked and infected by Mary at the Christmas Eve Party. He and Jack Dean are the only survivors, unluckily for them.

It doesn't really talk, but it is the bringer of chaos for Earth. It speaks via radio signal, not audibly. What it wants to do is mutate/destroy Earth, and the rest of the Solar System. It likes to invade planets, as it did with Saturn, Neptune, Jupiter, and Earth, and it likes to torment and brainwash humans. It has made several creations to kill off humanity, like the Woodcrawlers, Nature's Mockery, The Roots, the Wretch, Lights, and Fake People. Of all of these, the Woodcrawler is the worst. It can be found everywhere, even on the bottom of the Mariana Trench. Its powers are planetary manipulation, reality warping, summoning/creation, telepathy, and technopathy. Basically, it is a sentient planet and a genocidal cosmic entity that wants to kill all of humanity. It's called "The Iris", "The Hungry Eye", and "Planet Nine" (Since it had no use for Pluto, the Iris said.). It communicates to you via a computer screen at an observatory you work at. As it sends radio signals to you, it gives you immunity from the creations outside.
Iris' Appearance: The Iris is a giant sentient planet that resembles an eye. Its "sclera" and "pupil" are both colored dull orange, while its "iris" is a jet-black orifice to the organic interior of the planet. It is roughly the size of a gas giant, and as shown in Our Solar System through the diagram of the solar system, it is to be believed that the Iris is larger than Neptune, but smaller than Saturn. Though, given that the sclera of the Iris seems to grow, it's possible that it is capable of changing its size, and therefore does not have a specific size. It seems to bear a similar appearance to Venus, although its current depiction depicts it being slightly more red rather than orange.
Iris' Lore: The Iris, as revealed in Our Solar System, is a giant eye, watching over the other planets, particularly Earth. The Iris has "mutated" Neptune, as stated in Our Solar System. As of now, it has not been revealed what exactly happened to Neptune beyond this. We then see it use Neptune to help transfer its Inhabitants. It seems to be using them to "mutate" Earth. What it plans to do with the solar system afterwards is unknown. It seems that it is the center of a hivemind, capable of assimilating other beings to obey it, as depicted in individuals like Jack. In Monthly Progress Report, the Iris is seen communicating with the Regnad computer using a signal emitted by it during Project Infrared. The image of the Iris is also seen communicating with the Regnad computer even after it has been exposed to and infected by the Deep Root Disease, indicating that the Iris is a sentient planet that can speak even though it only speaks via radio signal. It's possible that the artificial computer learning doesn't process itself like AI but rather receives signals from the Iris itself, shown by the computer sending a signal to a certain place and then something like a big eye responding with a scary and out-of-context answer. More of the Iris is shown in detail in Crusader Probe Mission, as it is revealed to have organs such as a throat, an esophagus, a spinal complex, and even a conscious mind. The possibility of the Iris having other organs and a digestive system is also shown in Crusader Probe Mission.
Iris Trivia: The Iris is the origin for all the aliens in the series, possibly barring the Well Dressed Men. The Iris is extremely arrogant, spending all of its time "laughing" at humanity. The Iris has a number of moons, including a moon of a moon, as stated in Crusader Probe Mission. The moons are as follows: Cyst, Umbilic (a moon of Vitreous), Yucous, Macula, and Vitreous. All of these moons are "mutated". It can be assumed that they were all once planets and moons, before being mutated beyond recognition. In Crusader Probe Mission, it shows a person in the "conscious mind" part. This is likely Jack Dean, as the dates are exactly the same as in Sleep Image Visualizer. In Crusader Probe Mission, it's implied that the Iris has a gravitational field, as shown by the Crusader being pulled in although, it may not be the strongest.
Creatures and Creepy-Crawlies:
Woodcrawlers - They are arachnid-like aliens from The Iris who capture humans and convert them into Fake People. Woodcrawlers are never fully seen throughout the series, usually only their legs, or as silhouettes. From what is seen of them, they look like large spiders, although their legs more closely resemble that of the Harvestman, and have black-gray or off-white legs. They are seen multiple times with a single, large eye that shines in the light. They are roughly a bit taller than a person. According to Home Invasion Help, they may have a proboscis that is used for "entering" prey, although it is possible the statement refers to the creature entering through the nose of a human/"prey", that may also be refered to as a "proboscis". Woodcrawlers are aliens from The Iris. They are found all over North America, and are skilled hunters able to traverse most terrain without making a sound. They burrow underneath houses (particularly those of large families), and attack from under the floorboards. They then will "enter" prey, and create Fake People from this, before then moving on to other houses. They have also been shown to attack from below the surface, as seen in Games for Kids, as a small group of Woodcrawlers crush a police car with relative ease. Woodcrawlers have also been seen roaming the grounds of Moonlight Acres Family Camp, where visitors have colloquially dubbed them as Skinwalkers.
Nature's Mockery - They are a bizarre "plant" and one of the last stages of Deep Root Disease. Nature's Mockeries have an incredibly bizarre appearance. They are a ruddy/reddish color with a stout base and a lump on one side of them. The overall structure becomes thinner until it reachs a "branch" at the top, alongside two other tendrils. Nature's Mockery has been shown to be capable of absorbing (other) humans, with the victim's arms and heads sticking out of them. It eventually keeps sprouting and disfiguring the host of the infection up until the point which they are not even recognizable as human anymore. This can distort the humans looks a lot. Nature's Mockeries are initially shown as a dangerous "plant" that the viewer is told to avoid. The side effects of coming into contact with one include hallucinations, sudden muscular paralysis, body disfigurement and flesh decay. In Shifting Tendons, it is revealed that Nature's Mockery is in fact one of the final stages of Deep Root Disease infection, with the infected eventually decaying into one as shown with Barry Johnson's infection. After enough time, the Nature's Mockery appears to 'birth' something out of itself, however the footage is cut before the "occupant" of its interior is revealed. Old Bones reveals that the victims of Deep Root Disease (and by extension Nature's Mockery) are still alive and fully conscious even as the infection enters its late stages. Nature's Mockery instances are only capable of repeating sentences spoken to them, however, in a similar manner to The Wretch.
The Roots - They are small organisms akin to parasites. Roots are small organisms that look like small strands. They first start out as bulbs on the skin, then roots, and then grow as sprouts, making the rest of the organism composed of strands, while making the bone tissue branch and conjoin within them to render them immobilized, before converting them into Nature's Mockeries before breaking apart with something emerging from the host's body. Roots are small parasites from The Iris. They will infect organisms with what is known as Deep Root Disease. It begins with a bulb forming on the skin that may be confused with a blister, before it becomes a sprout, and then gets to the bone, and branches out. Roots are also seen being able to convert people into a mass of human-shaped fleshy strings. The outcome is seen in Home Invasion Help, where it also shows that Roots aren't fatal, which keep the victim alive as they're reduced to nerves, veins and arteries, before becoming a Nature's Mockery, and eventually hatching something from their stringy remain.
The Wretch - It is a reanimated and grotesquely mutated bear that has absorbed the bodies of several humans. The Wretch is barely seen, with only silhouettes of its legs and hands, and a tiny bit of its heads. From what is seen of it, it has skeletal thin legs with human-like hands on them. Its head is long and slim, similar to that of a canine's skull. When we see its hand in Christmas Eve Party, it seems to have a deformed finger on at least one of them. Upon completing its transformation, the Wretch has become a creature of titanic proportions, far larger than any living being on the planet, being roughly the size of two commercial telephone poles. Its legs have become extremely long and had deformed, asymmetric hands on them. The creature’s body possesses a fleshy red color and is seemingly made up of the assimilated corpses of numerous people. Its skin is sinewy, with massive pore-like holes covering its body, many of which have roots growing out of them, similar to those in the late stages of Deep Root Disease. Before infection, the Wretch was an ordinary brown bear. The Wretch was originally a brown bear found on the Moonlight Acres Family Camp grounds, which was shot and sacrificed to The Iris by Glenn Arthur in the place of a human sacrifice. Seemingly as punishment for the sacrifice not being human, the bear was reanimated and gradually mutated into a gargantuan creature that terrorized the campgrounds. Now the Wretch, the monster began taking people from their cabin rooms and absorbing them into its body, most notably Mary Dean. It later attacked the Moonlight Acres Christmas Eve party in 1985, killing and likely absorbing most of the patrons.
Lights - They are bioluminescent aliens from The Iris who lurk in fields and the sky, and aim to harvest people. The only thing seen of the Lights are their glows. They seem to be orb shaped creatures that shroud themselves in light. There are two variants. The Lights in the Field, and the Lights in the Sky. The only difference is that the former is terrestrial, while the latter is airborne. Lights are creatures that come from The Iris, for the purpose of luring people to remote locations, or rapidly hunting people down. Their ultimate goal is to "harvest" humans. What exactly "harvest" means is up to speculation, though it might be their way of making Fake People. They seem to lure people by convincing them through videos, such as telling them to go to fields and woods in Storm Safety Tips and Games for Kids per the terrestrial ones, or convincing the Moonlight Acres Camp management that their presence in the sky is an event as the airborne ones can "harvest" visitors.
Fake People - They are facsimiles of humans created by the aliens from The Iris. Fake People tend to look like normal humans, but move in stiff, or odd ways, usually hobbling about or staying still in weird positions. Fake People are made by the aliens, but have different behaviors. They only repeat a select few words (particularly screaming for help) to lure others to the aliens. Fake People are vulnerable to fire, or at least can be prevented from standing back up after dispatched.
Well Dressed Men - They seem to be a kind of alien possibly sent by The Iris as a way to communicate with humanity to set a deal in place. Well Dressed Men appear as regular human males sporting black suits, black ties, slacks, and possibly dress shoes. According to Glenn Arthur's journal, they look like malformed humans with business outfits, commonly having their eyes separated from the base of their face.

"Typically appearing on any normally exposed part of the body (arms, legs, neck, etc.), Bulbs are the first visible sign of Deep Root Disease."
"Bulbs can range from 2 cm to 10 cm across, meaning the growth may remain unnoticed for any amount of time."
"For the first few hours of appearance, Bulbs feel hollow and may be pressed down with ease. When Rooting stage begins, the Bulb will become solid, and those affected may experience pain when pressure is applied to the area."
"The area will become inflamed as Rooting stage progresses, small sores may appear around the affected area."
"As Rooting stage reaches its climax, these lumps will begin to form more rapidly."
"Inflammation then abruptly halts as Sprouting begins."

"If you believe somebody you know has contracted Deep Root Disease, proceed with this very simple diagnosis test."
"Check...

The video initializes with a view of flowers, while being a PSA from a health promotion company: WADH. It starts describing Deep Root Disease. It quickly reveals this is an alien disease known as Roots, which infect humans, and create bulbs, which soon become sprouts. When going over contraction, it simply shows a man sleeping in his bed. It then goes over questions to ask, bringing up that they will have become Vessels if they respond in a certain manner to four or more of the questions. It then covers sprouts. The Roots seem to be sprouting out, and as revealed in Home Invasion Help, is a representation of the stringy, moss-like mass the host becomes when in the final stage of infection, as the sprouts seem to occur in the "mouth", as a person becomes a Nature's Mockery, as revealed in Shifting Tendons.
The Moons of the Iris:
Cyst - Cyst is a peanut-shaped moon. This moon is named after a cyst, a fluid-filled abscess on the body. Cyst is reddish-brown in color, with multiple root shapes extending its entire length (which may mean that Cyst was two objects that were completely merged together). Cyst seems to also have a large hole or crater on its lower lobe, suggesting that the interior of the moon is hollow. It also noticeably resembles Hestia and Kadlu, two previous moons that were visited by Crusader 5.
Umbilic - Umbilic is a semi-spherical moon. The moon is named after the umbilical cord, a tube that gives nutrients to a developing fetus. Umbilic is greenish-yellow in color with a long tendril extending from its southern hemisphere. Umbilic is also a submoon, or a moon of a moon, orbiting the moon Vitreous. Where the long tendril extends to is uncertain, but given that Umbilic is a submoon, it’s possible that the tendril actually connects all the way to Vitreous.
Yucous - Yucous is a bright orangish moon that is shown after Umbilic. The moon's name is made up, the only one not named after a body part or ailment. It appears to be the most-normal out of the other four Irisian moons, as it lacks any visible roots or tendrils. However, it seems to be made of yellowish organic material and has an open, gaping hole in one side.
Macula - Macula is a small spherical moon. The moon is named after the macula, a part of the retina that allows fine details to be seen. Macula is small and reddish, with many tendrils and root-like structures emerging from its surface.
Vitreous - Vitreous is a moon shown after Macula. The moon is named after the vitreous humor, the fluid that fills the eye. Vitreous is a disorganized amalgamation of rock and root-like structures, forming an asymmetric blob-like mass. Vitreous may have been many objects melted and fused together by Iris. The largest of the roots noticeably extends further out compared to the other visible ones, as the rest of it is not even visible from Crusader 5's photograph of the moon. It is possible that this root connects to Umbilic's tendril, as that is in-fact a submoon of Vitreous.

It's been a long and boring night at the observatory. Shit, it's been at least 10 hours since you got there. But then this "Iris" thing showed up, and you had to work overtime, and yadda yadda.
All in all, this sucks. And it's mad creepy, too. You're the only person in the observatory. It's dead quiet. The A/C thrums silently, but other than that, it's just you.
You look at your old, outdated computer, wondering when you'll get another ping. It goes dark instead, and so you decide to at least get some rest.
Suddenly, the computer screen flashes to life, and you stare at the screen, seeing radio signals flash across it. This is your chance! Something that isn't boring!
So, using some quick maths, you solve the signal to find the actually shocking signal sent to you:
