In the darkened recesses of forgotten woods and shadowed valleys, a tale is whispered of a being both guardian and curse... A towering figure known as Cēhuatl, the Paragon of Change. To encounter him is to meet the forest’s wrath given form, a creature whose presence bends nature itself to his will.
His cobalt blue scales shimmer like twilight skies after a storm, a beauty that conceals his chilling power. Yet, it is his eyes that haunt the stories: empty, hollow voids where piercing green stars flicker, holding secrets and sorrows older than the land he treads.
His form is cloaked in shadows, his hood drawn low as if to shield the world from his gaze—or perhaps to shield himself from the world. He speaks rarely, his words cryptic and cold, the voice of a being who has witnessed the folly of man and beast alike. When his gaze falls upon you, it feels as if the land itself holds its breath, waiting to see if you will be spared or undone by his quiet judgment.
But beware: Cēhuatl is no savior. He is the storm that uproots and renews, the shadow that clings to the dying embers of hope. To call upon him is to invite change; unyielding, remorseless, and absolute. And when the stories end, and the children shiver by the fireside, one warning lingers in the air like the rustle of leaves on a windless night: If you see the green stars glinting in the dark, run. Run before the forest claims you, too.

Cēhuatl is a towering, muscular anthropomorphic dragon. His scales are a vibrant cobalt blue, accentuated by his pale peach-toned chest and abdominal scales, which are defined and segmented like polished armor. A pair of golden horns extend back from his angular, sharp-featured head, contrasting with the snowy white ridge that frames his powerful jaw and snout. His piercing, determined gaze is framed by ridged brows and fin-like frills extending outward from his head, resembling gills or aquatic adaptations. He wears angular, golden bracers on his forearms and matching shin guards, with a layered design resembling dragon scales. His hands are tipped with sharp, clawed fingers, and his legs are digitigrade, ending in taloned feet adorned with green, leaf-like armor pieces bound by straps. A long tail sways behind him, completing his imposing silhouette.
A large sword rests casually in one hand, the blade glowing with an ethereal green hue that mirrors the intricate gem embedded in its ornate crossguard. He wears a simple yet elegant green sash that drapes over his hips, fastened with a star-shaped emblem at his waist. His massive wings, slightly furled behind him, are a soft gradient of blue that complements his scales, their leathery texture catching the light. His eyes are hollow and empty, with a piercing star-shaped green hole acting as his pupils. Occasionally, his eyes glimmer to resemble regular humanoid eyes.
Cēhuatl is capable of conjuring blinding flashes of light, or creating small balls of light to illuminate areas or use as flash grenades by hurling them at enemies. He's also capable of unleashing thick roots from underground to ensnare opponents. He can summon sharp thorns or spikes, or even entangle enemies in thick roots for a short moment. He's also capable of sapping their health via the roots and absorbing it to restore his own health. He's also adept at wielding his greatsword, typically using it for defensive parries before striking back when they're entangled. He can also extract sap from plants to heal wounds or even set as sticky traps for his foes. His fighting style involves using the environment against his enemies, either separating them with his thick roots or dragging out fights long enough to wear his opponents down.
Cēhuatl is an enigmatic, mysterious individual who rarely speaks a word. He refuses to take his mask off, and prefers to stay in the shadows waiting patiently. He's incredibly observant and often questions himself about the nature of reality and his purpose. He exhibits signs of paranoia, refusing to trust others and constantly looking around in fear. He's skilled at avoiding attention, constantly finding small ways to manipulate events without being caught. Cēhuatl is also capable of noticing irregularities or flaws.
He sometimes pretends to put up a facade of being a stern yet caring guardian but secretly manipulates behind the scenes to ensure his plans reach fruition. He's fully aware of manipulating others for his own needs but justifies it as being part of the greater good. He appears calm, controlled, and emotionless, but his mind is constantly racing with calculations or contingency plans. When he does speak, his words are often cryptic, forcing others to interpret his true intentions. He uses subtle gestures, small favors, or carefully chosen words to steer others toward his desired outcomes.
Long before the world took its present shape, Cēhuatl emerged from the primordial essence of the universe, born of an ageless force older than time itself, alongside two other Paragons, Zhao Yue, the Paragon of Freedom, and Aristodikos, the Paragon of Order. Cēhuatl was entrusted with immense power and tasked with observing the world's cycles. Embodying Change, Cēhuatl saw his role for growth—of fostering balance through adaptation and renewal.
Drawn to the primal beauty of nature, Cēhuatl found solace in the untouched forests and fertile valleys. His power to command roots and sap the energy of life grew not from a desire for destruction but from a deep respect for the earth's regenerative essence. Over time, he became the steward of the forests, nurturing their growth and learning their secrets. The world’s flora whispered to him, revealing hidden truths about the interconnected web of life.
Cēhuatl's wanderings brought him to an early Aztec tribe, a humble community that revered nature as sacred. Recognizing their deep respect for the land, Cēhuatl chose to reveal himself as their guide. Though his presence was enigmatic, he became a calm, kind leader to the tribe, offering them knowledge of agriculture, medicine, and sustainable living. Under his tutelage, the tribe flourished, creating grand temples and vibrant ceremonies to honor the cycles of life and the gifts of nature.
He encouraged them to adapt to challenges and embrace the inevitable changes of life. In return, the people saw him as a deity of growth and transformation, carving masks in his honor to wear during sacred rituals.
Zhao Yue, the Paragon of Freedom, appeared unexpectedly one fateful day, his shimmering form a contrast to Cēhuatl’s quiet demeanor. To him, life was meant to be lived without restraint, rules, or order. Initially, their interactions were cordial, even warm, as Zhao Yue admired the tribe's vibrancy and creativity. But as time passed, Zhao Yue's unpredictable nature surfaced, and he sought out to entertain himself by massacring the tribe.
Cēhuatl, bound by his role as the guardian of change, sought to protect his people, using his greatsword to fend off Zhao Yue's attacks while summoning roots and thorns to ensnare him. But his playfulness and unpredictability overwhelmed him. Despite his efforts, the tribe was massacred, and their once-thriving civilization was reduced to ash and ruin.
Cēhuatl was devastated and wandered alone by himself for years, taking a few remnants of the charred trinkets his tribe carved out as a keepsake and a memento for his failure. He ended up stumbling into a cave in his travels, one mysteriously shaped in an abnormal manner. Cēhuatl was suddenly trapped in darkness, with the entrance sealed shut.
As Cēhuatl stepped deeper into the cave, the cryptic noise grew louder—a dissonant hum that seemed to pierce his very soul. The air grew thick with an unnatural chill, and faint whispers echoed in an unintelligible language. As he ventured further, his eyes adjusted to the oppressive darkness, revealing the horrifying sight before him:
Dozens of corpses dangled from twisted vines and roots above, their forms warped and grotesque. Each one bore remnants of masks, weapons, or artifacts similar to his own, marking them unmistakably as Paragons from other worlds. Their lifeless faces stared into the abyss, frozen in expressions of agony and betrayal. The roots entwining their bodies pulsed faintly, as though feeding off their residual power.
Cēhuatl stumbled backward, overwhelmed by the realization. These were beings like him, each created to observe, guide, or protect their respective worlds. But they had been reduced to mere husks, discarded in some cosmic experiment.
Suddenly, the cryptic noise crescendoed, and a searing pain struck Cēhuatl's mind. Memories not his own flooded in—a torrent of visions from countless worlds. He saw civilizations rise and fall, universes born and destroyed, all orchestrated by the same unknowable force that had created him and the other Paragons.
Each memory carried the same grim truth: the Paragons were tools, nothing more than pawns in a cruel cycle of creation and annihilation. They were granted immense power, only to be discarded when they defied the system or outlived their purpose. Cēhuatl saw their struggles, their rebellions, their moments of despair—all ending in the same grim fate.
The hum shifted, becoming a low, guttural growl, as if the force that orchestrated this horror was now aware of his presence. The corpses seemed to sway in unison, their hollow eyes locking onto him.
Panic surged through Cēhuatl. With all his might, he summoned the power of the roots, forcing them to tear apart the sealed entrance of the cave. He burst out into the blinding light of the outside world, collapsing onto the ground, gasping for breath.
The experience shattered Cēhuatl’s understanding of his existence. The kind, curious leader who once guided his tribe was gone, replaced by a haunted, paranoid shadow of his former self. The memories of his fallen counterparts and the knowledge of the Creator’s cold, calculated design left him distrustful of everything and everyone, including himself.
The trinkets of his tribe, once cherished mementos, became heavy symbols of failure and reminders of the fragile lives that depended on him. He vowed to never again let himself be bound by others’ trust or expectations, choosing instead to work in the shadows, manipulating events from afar to ensure survival and balance.
The world is fully inhabited by anthropomorphic animals.

"Give us the freedom to breathe!"
"Stop robbing us of our air!"
"Our soil is not your playground!"
The rowdy horde chanted unanimously, completely blocking the streets as hundreds of furious townsfolk gathered around the soon-to-be extinct forest next to town. Security did their best to stave off the surging crowd, their shouts of authority drowned out by the relentless cries of the protestors.
Amid the chaos, somewhere in the raging crowd, a figure moved silently through the fray, cloaked in a faded hoodie with the hood pulled low to obscure his face. His gaze was cast downward, cloaking his sharp snout in shadow with only a small glimpse at his subtle snarl. He blended seamlessly into the masses, his presence unnoticed as the tension in the air thickened.
As the protest intensified, his attention shifted to the hulking machines poised to tear into the forest's heart. Their yellow metal frames gleamed brightly, rumbling deeply in preparation for the trees' impending execution. The hooded figure took a deep breath, his fingers brushing against the edges of his hoodie as he wove through the crowd.
He stopped near the edge of the commotion, crouching low to remain unseen. His hand pressed against the earth, a faint shimmer of light flickering through the cracks in the soil. Roots began to stir beneath the surface, snaking underground, growing thicker and stronger until surfacing around the hulking machinations.
One by one, the machines began to groan and whine as thick, gnarled roots surged upward, wrapping around wheels and grinding gears to a halt. A crane attempting to swing its claw snapped violently, the steel arm crumpling under the crushing force of unseen tendrils. Sparks flew, and the hiss of leaking hydraulic fluid mixed with the growing cries of panic from the operators.
Still shrouded in his anonymity, the figure rose to his feet and dived deeper into the crowd. His hooded gaze swept over the protestors, his mind racing as he subtly shifted events to ensure the crowd’s energy remained chaotic, just enough to draw attention from him. A small flick of his wrist, and a small, sturdy root wrapped itself around a frantic officer's boot and yanked down to cause him to trip.
Naturally, the other officers became furious upon seeing their colleague injured. Anger clouded their judgment, and they immediately retaliated by tackling the nearest protesters, escalating the already volatile situation. Shouts turned to screams, and the crowd surged like a living organism, pushing back against the advancing line of officers.
Cēhuatl watched from beneath his hood, his sharp gaze glinting with a mix of calculation and resolve. The chaos served his purpose well. Every frenzied moment drew more attention to the destruction of the forest and away from his own subtle sabotage. He streaked through the crowd like a shadow, just another faceless individual in the surging uproar of the crowd.
He pressed his hand to the ground once more, the faint shimmer of light returning as he summoned another wave of roots. This time, the tendrils coiled around the remaining equipment, crushing vital components and snapping hydraulic lines with resounding cracks. Thick sap-like fluid spilled onto the dirt, pooling beneath the lifeless machines as they collapsed one by one.
Amidst the pandemonium, Cēhuatl’s lips curled into a faint snarl of satisfaction. He turned his attention to the towering bulldozer still rumbling ominously at the edge of the clearing. Just another issue he needed to take care of.
With a low, guttural hum, he summoned sharper, thorn-laden roots from the ground, which lashed out violently at the bulldozer's wheels, puncturing them and sending the massive machine lurching to one side. The driver stumbled out, screaming for help as the thorns coiled around the cabin, forcing the vehicle into an immobilized heap.
The protest surged anew as the crowd roared in defiance, emboldened by the destruction of the machinery. Fists were raised, banners waved, and the chants grew deafening. Cēhuatl, however, remained indifferent to their fury. He wasn’t here for them, a few injuries were the least of his concern. He was here for the forest.
One final glance at the chaos confirmed that his work was done. As officers and protesters clashed in the streets and the machines lay in ruins, Cēhuatl slipped silently through the crowd once more. He passed unnoticed, his movements as fluid as the roots he commanded, until he vanished into the dense edge of the forest.
