Gawr Gura

A descendant of the Lost City of Atlantis, who swam to Earth while saying, "It's so boring down there LOLOLOL!" Gura bought her clothes (and her shark hat) in the human world and she really loves them. In her spare time, she enjoys talking to marine life. Gura is friendly and readily likeable, and often amuses her viewers with foolish antics. She has no sense of direction, often misspells and mispronounces words, has trouble remembering her own age, and consistently fails to solve basic math problems, leading viewers to affectionately call her a "dum shark". Memorably, one viewer declared that "Gura has a heart of gold and a head of bone."

She can also be lazy at times. She often forgets about perishable items until they start to rot, and eats baby food "because you don't have to cook it... [or] chew on it."

However, despite her poor math and spelling skills, Gura is quick-witted, clever, and has vast knowledge of Shark Facts. When questioned on why she was not "boing boing," she excused it by claiming that she was "hydrodynamic." Her skill with fast-paced rhythm games is exceptional, and she is highly ambitious. She also occasionally makes lewd jokes, and is familiar with modern meme culture, which she references often. Gawr Gura is very short, reaching around 141 cm (4'7"). She has a slim body type. She has white, light silver-like hair with baby blue and cobalt blue strands, along with short pigtails on either side of her head, tied with diamond-shaped, shark-faced hair ties. She has cyan pupils, and sharp, shark-like teeth. She can wear a dark cerulean-blue hood in the shape of a shark's head.

She wears an oversized, dark cerulean-blue hoodie that fades into white on her arm sleeves and hem, two yellow strings in the shape of an "x" that connect the front part of her white hoodie hood, a shark mouth designed on her hoodie waist with a zipper, gray hoodie drawstrings with two black circles on each of them, and two pockets on the left and right sides of her hoodie waist with white fish bone designs on them.

She also wears a gray shirt under her hoodie. She wears dark blue socks, white shoes with pale baby blue shoe tongues, black shoelaces, gray velcro patches on the vamps, and thick, black soles. She wields a sapphire-blue trident and has a cyan shark tail. The upper lobe of Gura's caudal fin, the top part of her tail, is sewn up with gray stitches because of a rock that fell on it while she was in a deep sea trench. The lower lobe of Gura's caudal fin, the bottom part of her tail, has three bite marks, which she forgot the cause of. Gawr Gura, a member of hololive English, joined after auditions in mid-2020. Her debut stream, initially delayed due to technical issues, showcased her talents with a rendition of Tatsuro Yamashita's "Ride on Time." Gura quickly gained immense popularity, becoming the fastest-growing VTuber ever, reaching milestones like 500,000 and 1 million subscribers within weeks of her debut.

In early 2021, Gura continued to break records, becoming the first VTuber to reach 2 million subscribers and releasing her first original song, "REFLECT," which achieved over a million views shortly after its release. By mid-2021, she surpassed Kizuna AI to become the most subscribed VTuber globally.

Throughout 2022 and 2023, Gura continued to expand her repertoire, debuting multiple new outfits and hairstyles, releasing new original songs, and participating in various hololive events. She also periodically took breaks for health reasons, returning to streaming with enthusiastic support from her fanbase.

As of mid-2024, Gura remains a prominent figure in the VTuber community, celebrated for her charismatic streams, musical talents, and engaging personality, with a dedicated following eagerly anticipating her content and appearances. Gawr Gura's mascot, Bloop, is characterized as a "long-time friend who stays in a bubble 'for the better'," and sports an "emergency ration" can on its head. Gura humorously refers to Bloop as emergency food in a multiple-choice question, and has hinted at Bloop's morally ambiguous nature, suggesting he might border on being evil, especially in descriptions of his plush version.

Unlike the other holoMyth mascots, Bloop was designed by Gura's artist, Amashiro Natsuki, as shown in her concept illustration. However, Ina contributed to the design of the chibi version.

The name "Bloop" is shared with an ultra-low-frequency underwater sound detected by NOAA in 1997, initially thought to be caused by a marine animal but later attributed to glacier movements.

Gura's fanbase is known as "Chumbuds," while her channel members are affectionately called "MemberShrimp," a playful reference to Gura's interaction with her chat about the term "simp," which became popular after Twitch banned the word. Atlantis, where Gura originates, lacks modern comforts like French fries, which she humorously cites as a reason not to return. The city has few laws but severe punishments, including public executions witnessed by Gura, such as someone being devoured by a megalodon. Atlantis teems with diverse underwater species, featuring racing giant hermit crabs and lobster people. Food in Atlantis is healthy but simple, consisting mainly of fish and seaweed. Gura's birthday, June 20, coincides with the release of "Jaws" in 1975, marking the anniversary of her arrival on land. As a shark girl, Gura identifies her species as "Gura shark," unsure of her exact lineage among great sharks like megalodons and great whites. She enjoys a variety of foods, with salmon being her favorite, and has a penchant for quirky hobbies like banjo playing and PWWIE (people watching without intent to eat). Gura's streams are known for her mathematical mishaps, poor sense of direction, and charming linguistic quirks. She dislikes wearing pants but has adapted to wearing skirts and enjoys the color blue. She frequently uses exclamatory phrases like "Shaaaaaark!" to emphasize excitement or surprise. Gura occasionally adds a playful twist to words, such as "Oh nyo" instead of "Oh no," She sometimes delves into philosophical or reflective commentary, as seen in her advice about handling life's challenges with phrases like, "You go AGAIN!" and insights on personal progress versus comparison to others. Gura often uses self-aware humor, such as asserting, "You can't be mad at me... I'm cute!", demonstrating her playful confidence and ability to engage with her audience. She enjoys playful language experimentation, as evidenced by her humorous attempts at pronouncing words like "vodka," interspersed with giggles and playful noises, showcasing her lighthearted and entertaining manner.
