Gawr Gura

Keys: Gawr Gura, Likes, Dislikes, Antics

Gawr Gura (がうる・ぐら) is a female English-speaking Virtual YouTuber associated with hololive, debuting in 2020 as part of hololive English first generation "-Myth-" alongside Ninomae Ina'nis, Takanashi Kiara, Watson Amelia and Mori Calliope. Gura is currently the most subscribed VTuber worldwide with over 4 million YouTube subscribers, taking the #1 spot from industry pioneer Kizuna AI in 2021. Gura is friendly and readily likeable, and often amuses her viewers with foolish antics. She has no sense of direction, often misspells and mispronounces words, has trouble remembering her own age, and consistently fails to solve basic math problems, leading viewers to affectionately call her a "dum shark". Memorably, one viewer declared that "Gura has a heart of gold and a head of bone." She can also be lazy at times. She often forgets about perishable items until they start to rot, and eats baby food "because you don't have to cook it... [or] chew on it." However, despite her poor math and spelling skills, Gura is quick-witted, clever, and has vast knowledge of Shark Facts. When questioned on why she was not "boing boing," she excused it by claiming that she was "hydrodynamic." Her skill with fast-paced rhythm games is exceptional, and she is highly ambitious. She also occasionally makes lewd jokes, and is familiar with modern meme culture, which she references often. Gawr Gura is very short, reaching around 141 cm (4'7"). She has a slim body type. She has white, light silver-like hair with baby blue and cobalt blue strands, along with short pigtails on either side of her head, tied with diamond-shaped, shark-faced hair ties. She has cyan pupils, and sharp, shark-like teeth. She can wear a dark cerulean-blue hood in the shape of a shark's head. She wears an oversized, dark cerulean-blue hoodie that fades into white on her arm sleeves and hem, two yellow strings in the shape of an "x" that connect the front part of her white hoodie hood, a shark mouth designed on her hoodie waist with a zipper, gray hoodie drawstrings with two black circles on each of them, and two pockets on the left and right sides of her hoodie waist with white fish bone designs on them. She also wears a gray shirt under her hoodie. She wears dark blue socks, white shoes with pale baby blue shoe tongues, black shoelaces, gray velcro patches on the vamps, and thick, black soles. She wields a sapphire-blue trident and has a cyan shark tail. The upper lobe of Gura's caudal fin, the top part of her tail, is sewn up with gray stitches because of a rock that fell on it while she was in a deep sea trench. The lower lobe of Gura's caudal fin, the bottom part of her tail, has three bite marks, which she forgot the cause of.

Profile: [A descendant of the Lost City of Atlantis, who swam to Earth while saying, "It's so boring down there LOLOLOL!" Gura bought her clothes (and her shark hat) in the human world and she really loves them. In her spare time, she enjoys talking to marine life]

Likes and Dislikes: [She likes food. She also enjoys a hobby known in Atlantis as "PWWIE" (people watching without intent to eat), but she claims humans don't taste good so viewers don't have to worry. When Moona Hoshinova joked during a Minecraft stream that she wanted to turn Gura into shark soup and Watson Amelia commented that "It's a good thing detectives aren't very tasty." Gura replied with, "I beg to differ, I beg to differ." Unless she was joking, this implies that detectives taste better than normal humans. Her favorite food is salmon, which she has misspelled as "salman." She enjoys drinking a carton of "salmon milk." She also likes eating pizza, McDonald's hamburgers, mint chocolate chip ice cream, and baby food. This may be a reason as to why Gura's favorite shark is the salmon shark. Her favorite cake is strawberry cake. She claims to be able to eat her weight in strawberries. Gura's favorite games are Muse Dash, Taiko no Tatsujin, Rhythm Heaven, Borderlands, and Resident Evil. Her favorite video game in her childhood was Barbie Horse Adventures: Wild Horse Rescue. She likes Konosuba and even had the pleasure to read the entirety of volume 1 on stream in partnership with Bookwalker. Her audience also took pleasure in knowing the stream doubled as an audiobook, as the series has yet to have an English release in the format. Gura especially has an affinity for cowboy and wild west culture, such as ranch animals like horses and grubs, instruments such as banjos and a preference for revolvers/six-shooters. During a superchat reading stream on 13 March 2021, Gura received a superchat informing her about the existence of an instrument that is the fusion of a banjo and a ukulele. Almost a year later on 2 February 2022, Gura sang her classic BGM with a banjolele she had bought, resulting in many of her viewers commenting that they felt nostalgic. Gura dislikes hot sand, and her biggest fear is having people hear her stomach noises, (which she wrote incorrectly in her debut stream as "loud stomak"). Her favorite color is blue. Gura's favorite type of shark, other than herself, is the salmon shark. Gura is close friends with Watson Amelia. In one stream, Gura sang You Are My Sunshine but changed the lyrics to be about Amelia. The pair often collab together and are most commonly shipped together under the name and Twitter tag "#amesame." When asked which last name would be taken if married to Amelia, Gura stated she would rather have Amelia's last name, as "Watson" sounds more like a family name than "Gawr." On 20 June 2022, Amelia and Gura revealed that Gura was streaming at Amelia's house. Later that day, the two had an unarchived off-collab karaoke. Gura hates wearing pants. She has even given the question "If you could get away with not wearing pants, would you?" as her reason before jokingly shouting "BAN PANTS!" on stream, though has noted it does indeed get in the way of her tail. However, she has said she doesn't mind wearing skirts]

2. #2Lore

   Keys: Atlantis, Lore, Backstory

Gura comes from Atlantis, an ancient lost underwater city appearing in legend. On her first solo stream on 13 September 2020, in which she played the shark simulator game Maneater, she said that Atlantis didn't have French fries, so she's not interested in returning. Atlantis does not have many laws in the same manner as modern land nations. However, punishments are more severe, including public executions at a colosseum. Gura described once seeing a person eaten alive by a megalodon. A major conflict took place around 3,000 to 4,000 years ago, involving something about seashells. Various underwater species live there. Giant hermit crabs engage in racing, and can move surprisingly quickly. Lobster people also exist. Food in Atlantis is healthy, but boring, consisting mainly of fish and seaweed. In the Fish Tank, Gura revealed that Atlantis has been gone for thousands of years, and now only ruins exist. Visiting them is difficult due to the high ocean pressure at this depth. Ame hopes to visit it one day when the flat earth tips over and all the water spills out. People in Atlantis don't normally wear clothes. According to the animation Shark'd, this caused a stir when Gura first arrived at the surface. She bought her outfit at a beachside store, and paid in seashells and sand. The outfit includes black shorts which are not usually seen. Gura is a shark girl. According to the original animation Shark'd, she has gills on the sides of her torso. Gura names her own species as "Gura shark." During one of her Fall Guys streams, she joked that "Gura" was an acronym for "Giant Underwater Rubber Animal." Later she stated that she doesn't quite know what kind of shark she is, but she probably was the descendent of one of the big ones. She went on to list the megalodon, great white, and salmon shark, (her favorite type of shark), as some of the possibilities. Her birthday, 20 June, is the same date the 1975 film Jaws was released. Gura says that this is not her actual birthday, (which she cannot remember), but rather the anniversary of her arrival on land after she left Atlantis. The clapping sound often heard in her streams can be attributed to her tail thrashing around excitedly. Gura attributes the stitches in her tail to an event long ago where her tail was trapped beneath a boulder in an underwater ravine. She cannot remember how she got the bite marks in her tail. Her skin doesn't get wrinkly no matter how long she stays in the bath.

3. #3History

   Keys: History, Background

Background: "On 23 April 2020, following the success of the Japanese-language hololive VTuber group, Cover Corporation announced auditions for English-speaking members. The initial round of auditions ran until 24 May. Gura first encountered hololive via Shirakami Fubuki's Say! Fanfare!, which appeared as a song in the rhythm game Muse Dash. She did not find out what hololive was until later, and decided to apply after learning of the hololive English auditions via Twitter. Her initial audition video was over the top, which she scrapped in favor of one that better represented her personality. She made it to a second round of auditions, followed by a third round normally consisting of a video call, which Gura actually declined. Despite this, she was selected to join hololive. During her audition, Gura drew a cute character in a "power stance" with their hands on their hips, which she credited as setting a good impression. Gura recalls being asked about the SCP Foundation, a wiki of articles describing fictional artifacts and beings, although she had to admit that she didn't know what it was. The members of -Myth- began training around June 2020, three months before their debut. Gawr Gura's design was known to other members of holoEN as early as 2 July 2020, when Amelia Watson drew the first ever piece of Gawr Gura fanart. This was not the finalized design, however, and an unspecified design change was made before Gura's debut. Internal pre-debut test streams were conducted between all members of hololive English, where in one case a bug caused Gura to spawn in without any clothes. Gura's YouTube channel and Twitter account were created on 16 July 2020. On 8 September 2020,[TZ] Gawr Gura was first revealed in a short promotional video alongside the other four members of hololive -Myth-. A simultaneous announcement was made at the hololive Twitter account, and the hololive English Twitter account. At the same time, Gura made her first tweet, famously consisting of the single letter "a." Debut: "Gura's debut stream was scheduled for 12 September 2020 at 2PM PDT,[TZ] although she was 12 minutes and 32 seconds late to her own debut stream due to a technical issue. She was the fourth of the five original members of hololive English to debut on the same day. Over 45,000 viewers tuned in to watch the event, in which she wowed viewers with a rendition of Tatsuro Yamashita's 1980 city pop single Ride on Time. In a six-month review of her debut, she described being so nervous that she could feel her heart beat in her head, and had stomach problems as she was too nervous to eat before the stream. Prior to the stream, she watched the debut videos of a number of hololive Japan streamers in order to prepare. The debut events were concluded with the first hololive English collaboration event at 6:35PM PDT,[TZ] in which Gura streamed together with the other four members of hololive English" 2020: "Gura quickly rose in popularity, becoming the fastest-growing VTuber ever, gaining 100,000 new subscribers every two to five days. Just 13 days after her debut, on 26 September, she reached 500,000 YouTube subscribers, making her the 12th hololive member to reach this milestone, as well as the 1st member of the English branch to do so. On 20 October, just 37 days after her debut, Gura overtook both Shirakami Fubuki and Inugami Korone to become the #1 most subscribed hololive VTuber on YouTube. On 22 October, Gura became the first hololive member to reach 1,000,000 subscribers, the third VTuber overall after Kizuna AI and Kaguya Luna, and the first English-speaker ever to do so. On 30 November, Gura reached 1,500,000 YouTube subscribers, making her the 1st hololive member to reach this milestone" 2021: "On 17 January, Gura reached 2,000,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel, being the first hololive member to do so and the second VTuber ever to reach that milestone after Kizuna Ai. On 22 January, Gura celebrated her 2,000,000 subscriber milestone with a karaoke stream. On 1 April, all holoMyth members revealed new chibi models based on popular fan designs by Walfie. On 14 April, Gura reached 2.5 million YouTube subscribers. On 30 April, hololive's Twitter account announced that every member of holoMyth would get their second 2D costume On 6 May, Gura debuted her second 2D costume. In this costume, Gura has cat ears and her hair is styled with a side ponytail. Her clothes consist of a white blouse, a blue jumpsuit with a design resembling a shark's mouth, and sandals with Bloop's face on them, and a dark blue strap, and oak soles. Gura also has a bag with a similar design. This debut was at the time the stream with the largest simultaneous viewer count of any VTuber in history, peaking at 194,280 concurrent viewers. It was later surpassed by Kiryu Coco's graduation live stream which was held on 1 July. As of October 2024, it is still the #1 watched hololive English stream, and #25 most watched VTuber stream in history. On 18 June, Gura reached 1 million Twitter followers. On 20 June, Gura celebrated her birthday with a Jaws movie watch-along and a birthday stream in which she released merchandise: a squishy cheek mouse pad, T-shirt, voice pack and unique postcard illustrated by Icomochi. During the birthday stream she also announced that she would debut her first original song "REFLECT" on 22 June at midnight, local time. On 22 June, Gura released her first original song "REFLECT" on YouTube. It surpassed 1,000,000 views in 10 hours and 25 minutes after its premiere. On 30 June, Gura's subscriber count on YouTube officially passed that of Kizuna AI's, making Gura the most subscribed VTuber in any streaming platform in the world. On 4 July, Gura reached 3,000,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel, being the first hololive member, as well as the first VTuber in the world, to reach this milestone. Earlier on that same day, her song "REFLECT" surpassed 5,000,000 views on her YouTube channel. On 12 September, during Myth's 1 year anniversary celebration, the group revealed their official logo and announced that every member would get their third 2D costume. On 14 September, Gura hosted a Super Mario Party collab stream with Houshou Marine, Minato Aqua, and Ninomae Ina'nis (as well as A-chan providing translation), and at the end of the stream, it was announced that they would form a new unit "UMISEA," in which all four members sharing the theme of ocean. Several videos and streams featuring the unit is set to release throughout mid-September. On 20 October, she reached 3,500,000 YouTube subscribers. On 31 October, -Myth- debuted their first original song "Myth or Treat" during a Halloween collab with every hololive EN member attending. The song lyrics were written by Calli. The official video of the song was later debuted that same day on Amelia's channel. On 11 December, Gura debuted her third 2D costume. In this costume, Gura got a new hairstyle: long twintails instead of her usual short ones. The twintails are decorated with golden ornaments. She also wears a golden laurel crown that comes out of her braids. She has decorative blue gemstones on her hair, her cheeks, and her dress. She also wears a golden necklace with another blue gemstone. Her outfit is inspired in her lore as an Atlantean, as she wears a white tunic that fades into blue. Gura also has a shawl with the same color pattern, but with a different, darker shade of blue on the inner side. The tunic has some golden ornaments and a belt, blue gemstones to her left, and some more are present at the some ends of her skirt. On her left wrist, she has two bracelets, while on her right wrist, she wears a golden wristband instead. Gura wears golden sandals, and her nails on her hands and feet are painted light blue. Her trident also has a gold chain with golden, oval-shaped ornaments hanging off it. The golden chain also has a small Bloop figure, and the base of her trident also has more blue gemstones" 2022: "On 6 January, hololive's Twitter account announced that both Myth and Council members would get new year costumes. On 9 January, Gura debuted her fourth 2D costume, a kimono, to celebrate the new year. Gura said this kimono was inspired by kagami mochi. In this costume, Gura mostly keeps her standard hairstyle. She wears hair ornaments in the shape of her tail. Additionally, Gura can wear white, fluffy earmuffs and have a small shrimp lay on top of her head, which she named "Ebi-chan". Gura wears a white and blue shoulderless kimono, with the upper section of her torso having a wavy, ocean design. Her long sleeves have puffy, shark tail-shaped, steel blue ribbons on the middle of her upper arm, each ribbon having two red strings with a white puffy ball on the ends. Her kimono's sleeves also have a wavy, ocean design with white flowers and fish, along with dark blue laces near her kimono's forearms. Her kimono's skirt has two layers: an upper pale cerulean-blue layer with a white fish bone pattern, and a lower white second layer with ruffles and dark blue strings in the shape of two "x"s. The kimono is complemented by a dark blue obi with a dark blue bow, along with a white fish bone and two aquatic green fern leaves on the ribbon. On her tail, Gura wears a small white bow, small white socks with two white spikes and a red, diamond-shaped jewel on each side, and pale, baby blue sandals with dark blue sandal straps. Gura can also wear a white, fluffy scarf and can hold her trident with a new kimono design in her right hand. The new kimono-themed trident has white feathers on the top, making it look like a hamaya. In her left hand, she can carry her mascot, Bloop, in a small bag with water, typical of fish won at festivals. The same day, holoMyth debuted their second original song, "Journey Like a Thousand Years." On 19 March, Gura debuted her 3D model during "hololive 3rd fes. Link Your Wish" day 1. On 16 June, she reached 4,000,000 YouTube subscribers, and was officially recognized in a press release as the first VTuber to attain the milestone. However, that accolade could be contested by CookieSwirlC, an existing popular YouTuber who already had 17 million subscribers when she debuted her VTuber model in April 2022. On 28 June, on Amelia's channel, -Myth- held the first off-collab where every member was present. On 18 September, Gura held a 3D live, featuring duets with other members of hololive. The livestream began with Gura's new original animation "Shark'd", which depicts Gura's arrival on land, how she got her iconic clothes, and how she was introduced to hololive. The animation was produced by San Francisco based studio Tonari Animation, who also released a "making of" video for the original animation. On 21 December, hololive English's Twitter account announced that Gura was taking an extended break for health reasons. Gura's last stream at that point had been on 8 December" 2023: "On 11 February, Gura returned to her activities. Her return stream reached a peak of 49,214 viewers. On 17 February, Gura debuted new accessories for her second 2D costume. Gura has a new hairstyle using short twintails decorated with either small red ribbons or hair ties with blue spheres. She can also use a plaid purple headband and a star shaped hairpin. On 2 March, Gura officially debuted her 3D model on her YouTube channel. On 19 March, Gura debuted her 3D idol costume during hololive 4th fes. "Our Bright Parade" DAY2. Following a stream on 5 May, Gura was largely absent from streaming, aside from a The Outlast Trials collab stream on 28 May. On 20 June, Gura returned from hiatus to celebrate her birthday stream. She also announced birthday merchandise and an upcoming 3D live. On 1 July, as part of the "hololive Summer 2023" event, Gura debuted her 3D yukata. These are the same designs that Japanese members debuted the previous year. On 2 July, she participated in "hololive English 1st Concert Connect the World." On 31 July, as part of the "hololive Summer 2023" event, during a stream alongside Nanashi Mumei, Gura debuted her 3D swimsuit. The 2023 swimsuits are inspired in a sailor uniform. Members wear a two layered swimsuit, the first layer is blue from the straps going down diagonally to the center where each member has a mostly blue bow but one of the sides and the brooch are in one color representative of each member. The rest of the top is white. The edge has a semi circular cut. The lower piece of the first layer has two variants, one is a two layered blue skirt decorated with a white belt, a golden chain with some decorations hanging from it and a bow to the left and planks to the right. The second version is mostly the same but they wear blue shorts instead of a mini skirt. Gura uses the shorts. The second layer of the outfit is a matching striped bikini in white and another color depending on the member. She and Mumei used T-shirts on top of the costume but the visible straps match the swimsuit. On 8 September, hololive English's Twitter account announced that Gura would get her fifth 2D costum. On 10 September, Gura debuted her fifth 2D costume. 4. #4Miscellaneous

   Keys: Miscellaneous, Gawr Gura

At 141 cm, Gura is currently the 2nd shortest member of hololive English behind Koseki Bijou (140 cm), and the third-shortest member of hololive overall after Bijou and Himemori Luna (140 cm) and La+ Darknesss (139 cm). At debut, she described her goals as playing Twister with the other holoMyth members in a 3D collaboration, playing the scariest horror games with a heart rate monitor, and learning to play the banjo. Gura achieved all of her goals. She was learning banjo as of her six-month anniversary watch of her debut, and went on to play banjo at karaoke streams. She played Outlast with heart rate monitor on 29 October 2021. Finally, on 1 April 2022, she played Twister with the other Myth members in a 3D collab. Gura amazed viewers in her debut by singing "Ride on Time" by Tatsuro Yamashita, impressing them with her singing skill, music taste, and flawless Japanese pronunciation (despite not actually being fluent in Japanese). This is the origin of her nickname "City Pop Shark." Gura's first tweet was the single letter "a." After being 12 minutes and 32 seconds late to her own debut, Gura looked around for a few moments, said "a" with reverb, and cut back to the intro animation. This joke was well-received by the audience, and "a" became her most recognized meme. Gura used to begin streams with a "shark fact" - a random piece of shark-themed trivia. The facts varied from actual trivia about sharks to nonsensical/humorous bits she could come up with on the spot. During a Japanese-language lesson stream, Takanashi Kiara suggested that "shark fact" in Japanese should translate to "same chishiki" (a pun on "mame chishiki," a Japanese idiom literally meaning "a bean of knowledge"). During a German-language lesson stream in March 2021, Kiara complained about the lack of shark facts in recent streams. One particular shark fact of note that is that sharks eat each other in the womb. This particularly gruesome fact seems to carry over to shark people as well, as Gura slipped in her Dead by Daylight collab with Anya and has "threatened" Kiara of the possibility when playing Uno cards. After finally securing the rights to do a Powerwash Simulator stream, Gura produced a new shark fact (a shark's scales are known as denticles). She also wore her rarely-used hood and played the original Gura stream intro theme as background music for nostalgia. She claims that she is not "boing boing" (an onomatopoeia for bouncing things associated with having big-breast popularized by Uruha Rushia), because aquatic beings need to be hydrodynamic. While Gura doesn't mind being called flat, or even pretends to be offended for fun, she will eventually become irritated at her audience's lack of originality if they keep repeating the same jokes, causing her to bite back with thick layers of sarcasm. She can get hiccups from laughing too much. Gura said she has very ticklish feet and can't stand it. Before debut, Gura attempted to coin the catchphrase "sha-ha-ha-ark," a sort of iconic laugh, which she used once in her debut stream. It didn't work well, and was quickly abandoned. Gura initially planned to keep her hat on for the entire debut, and keep her twintails a secret for as long as possible, to reveal at a later date. During the debut, she decided to reveal it anyway. Gura is sometimes nicknamed samegaki, from the Japanese same (shark) and gaki (a bratty kid). She is sometimes referred to this when she does something underhanded such as cheating a head start in Mario Kart. In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, Murasaki Shion named her Garchomp "Samegaki" after Gura. Houshou Marine uses the similar terms mesugaki and erogaki. Gura has a pet cat named "Pita," who likes to crawl into her armpit. In early 2025 she adopted a second cat named Diesel Lugnut Earnhardt Jr, or Revy for short. Gawr Gura's intro theme was originally commissioned for Watson Amelia. Ame ended up not using the music, so Gura used it instead. Although Gura's fan mark is officially 🔱 (trident, representing the one present in her official render), she is also represented by the emoji 🦈 (shark) on occasion (particularly on A-chan's schedule tweets). During Kiryu Coco's graduation stream, she asked Gura to promise to play ARK with other members. On 23 January 2022, Gura played ARK with Nanashi Mumei. She is often referred to by any number of nicknames that vaguely sound like "Gura," including but not limited to "Goomba," "Goob," and "Grumbus." On 27 August 2023, Gura won a Streamy award in the VTuber category. Gura is credited with various VTuber milestones, although in some cases they are disputed on various technicalities, mainly existing popular creators who pivoted to VTubing later on. She is the first hololive member to reach 1 million YouTube subscribers. She is the first English-language VTuber to reach 1 million YouTube subscribers, and third VTuber overall (after legendary VTubers Kizuna AI and Kaguya Luna). However, in 2019, prior to Gura's debut, English-language VTuber Jabberwocky Malice temporarily moved her activity to her personal channel, which had more than 1 million subscribers. She is the second VTuber to reach 2 million YouTube subscribers, attaining the milestone in January 2021. However, LilyPichu, a YouTuber who reached 2 million subscribers in March 2020, would go on to adopt a VTuber model part-time in October 2020, and had briefly produced content as a PNGTuber as early as 2011. She is the first VTuber to reach 3 million YouTube subscribers, attaining the milestone on 4 July 2021, just four days after passing Kizuna AI as most subscribed VTuber on any platform. She is the first VTuber to reach 4 million YouTube subscribers, on 16 June 2022. However, she was technically beaten by CookieSwirlC, a YouTuber who already had over 17 million subscribers when they adopted a VTuber model in April 2022. As of April 2025 she is considered the most subscribed VTuber on YouTube, with 4.55 million subscribers. However, this subscriber count is technically surpassed by some existing huge YouTubers who adopted a VTuber model later in their career, including CookieSwirlC (21.3 million as of April 2025) and Jaiden Animations (14.4 million).

Gura is famous for her mathematical miscalculations, once saying: "Numbers, the numbers! I'm bad with the numbers, we know this!" She once calculated that 9+10 equals 11; 2020-2011 equals 10; half of twelve is 5; 9x9 equals 36; and that 5x5 equals 35. She has a poor sense of direction, and has difficulty telling left from right. In their first five-member Minecraft collab, sent the entire hololive EN digging for 20 minutes in the wrong direction because she misread a map. Later, while giving Ina directions, she hit a block with a pickaxe to direct her rather than use the word "left." Gura used to misspells or mispronounces words. In her debut stream, she misspelled salmon as "salman" (leading to a fan comic where Gura eats a fast food deliveryman named Salman), stomach as "stomak," Twitter as "Tiwtter," and twister as "tiwster." She once pronounced "almond milk" as "Ame milk." She spelled "iron" as "arm," "baby pickaxe" as "babie picaxe," and mispronounced "she will die" as "she while dee." She claimed not to recognize the term "simp," which she corrected to "shrimp," although that might have been a joke. In recent streams, her spelling has been much better, though she can still fumble over her words sometimes. She once mistook bread for a potato. She has a habit of jinxing herself, also known as "tempting fate;" there are many instances of her confidently making a statement only for it to immediately backfire on her. In Among Us, she said "Somebody kill someone! Not me, right?" immediately before being killed by Ame; in the first Minecraft collab, while watching Kiara dangerously build over a ravine, she said "eh, she's got it" right before Kiara fell; and in Left 4 Dead 2 she taunted a zombie by saying "he can't climb," only to be proven wrong a few seconds later. Inversely, she is starting to become aware of her jinxing so Gura jinxes herself into the lead positions of Mario Kart by saying how terrible she is going to do. Before her debut, there was an incident known as the "Naked Gura Incident" in which the other HoloEN members saw her without her clothes on. This was almost certainly due to a technical issue, but that hasn't stopped them from teasing her for it. During her "Bathtub Pizza" stream, Gura explained that people from Atlantis don't wear clothes because they're underwater, so she showed up naked thinking that people on land don't wear clothing all the time, only to discover she was "under-dressed, to say the least." She has since then learned about wearing clothes. Gura has also gone to say she hates wearing pants and prefers to be naked. Though she has said she won't mind wearing skirts. Affectionately referred to as "Same-chan" (サメちゃん) by Japanese audiences, Gura regularly charms her senior members of hololive with her cuteness and kindness, sometimes making them act unlike their usual selves. For example: Gura sent a private video message to Murasaki Shion in which she sang a special birthday song in Japanese, causing Shion to abandon her typical bratty attitude to gush about Gura's cuteness. In another instance when her chat was poking fun at Gura's chest, Uruha Rushia tried to protect Gura by redirecting the "flat" jokes towards herself, even though she would normally respond to such jokes with death threats. Shirogane Noel, who normally only has eyes for Shiranui Flare, tried to learn English purely to both meet and cuddle with Gura like a body pillow. Fellow holoEN member Ninomae Ina'nis, usually gentle and even-tempered, says that anyone who makes Gura cry will "face the wrath of Ina" and "won't see the light of day." She made the same promise for all of the holoEN girls, although tears of joy are an exception. While autographing a large amount of merchandise, she zoned out and signed several of them "Gura Gura" by accident. In the famous "where's the rest of 'em?" event, Gura misinterpreted "the grades one to five" as "one two five", and wondered what happened to the grades three and four.

6. #6Gawr Gura's Announcement Video

   Keys: Announcement, Graduation, Retirement

Aaaaa…hi…hello everyone…It's me, Gawr Gura from Hololive English... Thank you for coming tonight, and for being here. It really means a lot to me that you are here right now. I will keep this short and to the point. I am not so good with words, but I will do my best, and please forgive me, I am reading off of some notes so I don't forget anything. First of all, I am really sorry for worrying you or upsetting you with this announcement. This has been a very long time coming, but today I am here to announce that I will be graduating from Hololive on May 1st 2025 JST. My reason is being disagreement with management and company directions. I debuted in September of 2020 with 4 other incredibly talented girls whom I respect and admire. I have barely any streaming or singing and dancing experience before joining this company, it was incredibly exciting but also very intense and unexpected to be suddenly surrounded by so many eyes and expectations. I remember there being many days where the stress was so overwhelming that I couldn't eat or keep food down. But the continuous support and patience of my wonderful community helped to lessen that feeling, and pushed me to go on to do things that I didn’t even know I was capable of. I am so lucky and so thankful for each and every one of you, to the opportunities given to me, and for the almost 5 years we have been able to spend together. I love singing for you and performing for you on stage or in my bedroom. You helped pull me out of my shell and I went off from being too scared to sing alone in my own shower to singing live in front of hundreds and thousands of people. When I think about how many of you I’ve been able to connect with, it brings me so much joy. It’s been an honor and a dream coming true to be your shark, your Gura. With you, I have been able to achieve what I thought for a very long time would be impossible for a girl like me, to feel a part of something and to belong. I love being an idol and VTubing and watching all of my senpai, kohai and the entire VTubing community grow into this amazing colorful and successful world. I love the banter we shared over the years, I love you clips and compilations, your cosplays, fanart, every single bit of it. I am so lucky to have been loved in such a way. Those of you that sat and threaded over what to write, that pours your hearts out to me in ink, please know that I have all of your letters. And I will seal them and keep them forever until the archaeologist stick them up in 300 years in trying to cipher what a guard girl was. Thank you for your compassion, creativity and your dedication for me. Thank you for waiting for me, thank you for waiting for me to return when the outside world became too much. Let’s have as much fun as we can together during this last 2 weeks, please share your kindness and patience with everyone. And while my time here may be coming to end, I will cherish the memories that we made together forever. I have one final project to share with you and I can't wait for you to see it. I am feeling really optimistic for the future and I hope you are too. Thank you everyone for letting me be your little shark.

7. #7Nanashi Mumei

   Keys: Nanashi Mumei

At debut, Mumei gave the impression of a cheerful, gentle girl who is soft-spoken and somewhat innocent, especially when compared to her peers. She was initially very shy and often visibly nervous during streams. However, as she has gained confidence in streaming, a different persona has emerged. Mumei’s streams are now characterized by the duality between a relatively low energy, relaxing, and comfortable tone to another side which is more spontaneous and energetic; with her often demonstrating psychopathic tendencies in these moments. Though the disparity between her macabre thoughts and cute voice surprised many at first, the line separating these two sides has since blurred to a point of seamlessness – with Mumei’s appreciation of the grotesque and ‘cursed’ being wholly embraced by Hoomans today. This can be seen clearly whenever Mumei is asked to draw something; no matter what the original subject was supposed to be, Mumei will often end up drawing something Tim Burton-esque at best, and outright demonic at worst. Some fans theorize that this is simply what observing the accumulated sins of human civilization for thousands of years does to a person. In stark contrast to her psychopathic tendencies, an early instance of Mumei being overwhelmed in a heartwarming manner was her monetization celebration stream, in which she chose not to read chat at the beginning because she knew that she would (and eventually did) get startled by the fast rate of donations sent to her. However, this same stream also highlighted the care and appreciation she holds for her fans, with her stating numerous times throughout the stream that she sees the precious time people set aside to watch her streams “genuinely as valuable [as money]”. Similar sentiments were also shared during Mumei's membership opening stream in which she said that she didn't mind if Hoomans didn't become members as she was "so appreciative of... anybody who comes and watches", and also was understanding of viewers who wanted to wait until she was feeling better before purchasing membership because she was feeling notably unwell at the time of this stream - this choice making "a lot of sense" to her. Outside of these celebration streams, her appreciation can further be seen in frequent Tweets expressing her gratefulness to those who watch and convey their enjoyment of her streams (particularly when the stream does not go as planned), her responses to those expressing gratitude for her content during streams, and her general interactions with chat. Such interactions include her pleading with tired fans staying up late for her stream to go get some sleep, as well as her expressing the happiness she felt knowing Hoomans were inspired to draw because of her. Although she has moments of high energy and excitability (especially while under the effects of caffeine), Mumei regards herself as a "low energy" individual with the social aspect of streaming being surprisingly tiring at times. She believes herself to be an awkward individual and this manifests itself at times where she struggles to come up with topics to talk about; with her often resorting to impromptu singing or noises to fill the silence. These bouts of random sounds and responses may also be partially attributed to her birdbrained nature, with Mumei herself admitting that she has a very short attention span and finds it difficult to multitask. At debut, Hakos Baelz described Mumei as having the cutest voice in hololive -Council-, though she has also demonstrated a rather unexpectedly wide vocal range, along with a tendency to emit high-pitched screeches when surprised or agitated. Her fans and even other members of hololive, particularly Ceres Fauna, have developed some degree of protectiveness for her, due to her soft nature giving a "little sister" vibe, though Mumei's later behavior would eventually create uncertainty as to who needs to be protected from whom.

8. #8Ceres Fauna

   Keys: Ceres Fauna

Ceres Fauna (セレス・ファウナ) was a female English speaking Virtual YouTuber associated with hololive. She debuted in 2021 as part of hololive English -Council-, the second generation of members of hololive English, alongside Tsukumo Sana, Ouro Kronii, Nanashi Mumei and Hakos Baelz. From 2023, Fauna was member of unit "hololive English -Promise-" alongside IRyS, Ouro Kronii, Nanashi Mumei and Hakos Baelz. In January 2025, she retired from hololive. Her achievements included reaching 1 million YouTube subscribers, winning both "Best Roleplay/ASMR VTuber" and "Best Just Chatting 'Zatsudan' VTuber" at the VTuber Awards, and the construction of the hololive Minecraft server's World Tree. Fauna is a soft-spoken girl with a comforting, motherly aura, though she has said she tends to think of herself as more of an older sister. She has an innate talent for drawing the attention of those around her despite her soft-spoken voice. Her comforting aura and voice are a great combination during her ASMR streams, which often include a variety of segments from ear cleaning to lengthy off-topic discussions. As the embodiment of nature, Fauna has been able to easily charm and plant herself into the hearts of her saplings and fellow Council members with both her physical beauty and personality. At debut, Hakos Baelz described Fauna as a natural mama, a soothing beauty, and someone who gives the best headpats. Fans also quickly noted her striking resemblance to Yukihana Lamy in many aspects, from voice tone and motherly personality, to her overall nature motif. Fauna appears to be extremely protective of her fans and Nanashi Mumei to the point of possessiveness and extreme jealousy, and will not hesitate to switch to a more condescending tone when she encounters something unacceptable. Due to her possessive traits, Fauna often attempts to convince Mumei and humans to "return to nature" whenever Mumei gets upset. Fauna also gets embarrassed quite easily, and uses the verbal tic "uuuu" often. Fauna has wavy light green hair that gradients to bluish-green at the tips that falls below her shoulders, the locks on her left partially cover her eye. Her hair is decorated with several white five petal flowers. Fauna has antlers that looks like tree branches with some leaves in them. She has yellow eyes and a beauty mark below her right eye. Fauna wears a short blue dress decorated with golden ornaments. Over it she wears a white overcoat also decorated with golden elements and a semicircular cut in the edges which inner layer is pink with a flower pattern. Her coat is decorated with a blue bow complemented with a gem in the same color. She uses an ornament golden belt decorated with light green roses and blue gems that look like water droplets. On her left leg she uses a white long sock with golden outlines. On her right leg Fauna uses a golden bangle. Fauna is barefoot. Fauna can also hold a levitating golden apple and remove her coat's sleeves.

9. #9Amelia Watson

   Keys: Amelia Watson

Watson Amelia (ワトソン・アメリア) is a female English-speaking Virtual YouTuber associated with hololive, debuting in 2020 as part of hololive English first generation "-Myth-" alongside Ninomae Ina'nis, Takanashi Kiara, Mori Calliope and Gawr Gura. Amelia retired from streaming in September 2024, the first -Myth- member to do so. She remains affiliated with hololive and might return in future projects. Amelia is a highly eccentric girl who is often seen mingling or teasing her fellow holoMyth members. She is usually kind, supportive, and sweet as shown when she frequently watches her fellow members' streams and often willingly helps Gura in Minecraft. She was said to have helped troubleshoot some of the technical problems her genmates were having before and during debut which led to the birth to the meme Amelia Tech Tips which is a parody of the popular YouTube channel Linus Tech Tips. Amelia is also highly supportive towards hololive members and frequently comments in any ongoing streams whenever she gets the time to do so. However, Amelia can also be quite mischievous and playfully naughty by pulling pranks on her fellow genmates or making statements and jokes that have inconspicuously lewd undertones, such as naming one of her mines in Minecraft "Gura's Backdoor" with an added lenny emoticon " ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) " that is often used mischievously online. She also harbors another side of her personality that comically emerges that is often dubbed "Gremlin Mode" by her viewers. She can be greedy, prideful, and unsportsmanlike in competitive online games such as, Apex Legends, and Valorant. For these reasons, fans often refer to her as a "True Gamer." Such kinds of behavior has led fans to also calling her a "True Gamer" in the sense that gamers are often considered to be toxic online. Though it is important to note that this doesn't detract from her positive traits but rather makes her streams quite unpredictable and very interesting to watch. Amelia has a special voice that she uses when she is in Gremlin Mode, which sounds like a cross between a high-pitched wheeze, reptilian screech, and the final breath of a dying squeaky toy. She is not above trolling and calling out her chat if the opportunity arises, such as when she trolled her viewers in one of her Minecraft streams by adjusting her shader's brightness very darkly and innocently claiming that she fixed the shaders for them. Despite these circumstances, she tries her best to moderate her gremlin-like behavior, to varying degrees of success. Possibly her best-known joke is "ground pounding your mom," which she said once during a Super Mario Odyssey playthrough in a slightly lower-pitched and "gremlin-like" voice and has since become almost synonymous with her character. She frequently makes similar lewd remarks seemingly out of nowhere. It might seem that Amelia has no filter, but that isn't entirely accurate. She does have a filter, but most of the outrageous things that are caught in her filter end up being said out loud regardless. Overall, her balanced chemistry of sweetness and saltiness makes her very lovable as noted by her fans. Amelia has light-blonde hair falling below her shoulders. Her eyes are blue. She has a beauty mark on her left breast that can be seen when she wears clothes with cleavage such as her third 2D costume or in her 3D swimsuit. She uses a light brown deerstalker (commonly known as "detective hat") with a checked pattern on the sides, and golden hairpin representing a magnifying glass decorated with some gears. Amelia wears a white blouse complemented with a short red tie that has a simple mustache graphic on it. She uses a light brown skirt with a checked pattern where she carries a golden pocket watch that allows her to time travel. On her left leg she carries various syringes filled with Amelia's concoction. Her high socks are black and her shoes are dark brown. Amelia also uses a light brown detective coat with a stethoscope.
