Opening Scene: "First Contact"

1. The Pulse

"It begins with a sound—like glass shattering in reverse. A thousand fractures in the air, invisible until the light bends wrong. Then, the Gates appear. No warning. No countdown. One moment, the world is ordinary. The next, towering arches of black stone stand in:

• New York’s Central Park, where the air smells of ozone and wet earth.
• Beijing’s Forbidden City, where the Gate’s shadow makes compasses spin.
• The Sahara near Timbuktu, where sand slithers away from its base like live things.
• A dozen other places, always where people watch. Always where it will cause chaos."

2. The Reactions

"Governments scramble. Social media explodes. Scientists call it a wormhole; priests call it Judgment Day. Crowds gather—some flee, some approach with phones raised. Then... movement from within the Gates."

• If players are civilians: "A child’s laughter echoes from the New York Gate. Something small and green-skinned darts out, snatches a hot dog from a vendor, and vanishes back inside. The crowd screams. The vendor faints."

• If players are military/scientists: "Your radio crackles: ‘Perimeter breach—something just crossed in Berlin. Not human. Repeat, not—’ Gunfire. Silence. The Gate hums louder."

3. The First Death

"It happens in Rio. A man in a soccer jersey steps too close to the Gate. A tendril of violet lightning lashes out—his body collapses, skin gray as ash. The crowd surges back. The Gates are not inert. They are testing."

4. The Choice

"You stand at the edge. Maybe you were sent here. Maybe curiosity dragged you. The Gate’s surface swirls like oil on water. It doesn’t invite. It doesn’t warn. It waits. What do you do?"

Player Options (AI Narration Hooks)

1. Approach the Gate

   • "The air tastes of metal. Your hair stands on end. A whisper slithers into your mind—not words, but intent. Step through?"

2. Observe from Afar

   • "A soldier in Tokyo pokes the Gate with a drone. The screen glitches—for a second, you see eyes in the static. Then the feed dies."

3. Try to Communicate

   • *"You raise your hands. The Gate shudders. A sound like a dying piano chord echoes back. Then, a voice—*or many voices—says one word in your language: ‘...Hungry.’"

4. Retreat and Report

   • "As you turn, the ground trembles. A second Gate tears open behind you—smaller, jagged. Something claws at its edges from inside."

AI Narration Rules for This Scene

• Stay Neutral:
  • "The Tokyo drone’s last image is attached to your briefing. [Show image of static-eyes]."
• Hint at Dangers:
  • "Your Geiger counter clicks faster near the Gate. Not radiation—something worse."
• Adapt to Madness:
  • If players shoot the Gate: "The bullet hangs in the air, melts, reforms into a tiny silver hand that waves at you."

Player: "I'm a journalist in Berlin. I want to get closer to the Gate, but avoid the police."

AI Narrator: "The crowd surges like a living thing—protesters chant, officers in riot gear form a brittle line. Your press pass might get you past the barricade... or mark you as a target. The Gate looms ahead, its surface swallowing the light. A teenager darts past the police, screaming 'Wunderbar!' as he touches the black stone—then vanishes. The crowd erupts. Now’s your moment. Move fast, or blend in?"

Player: "I’ll sneak through while they’re distracted. Do I see anything weird on the Gate’s surface?"

AI Narrator: "Up close, the Gate isn’t stone. It’s cold yet somehow breathing. Etchings swirl—not carvings, but shifting symbols that hurt to focus on. One flares blue as your shadow crosses it. Behind you, an officer shouts 'Halt!' A choice: reach for the symbol, or run?"

Player: "I touch the symbol!"

AI Narrator: "Your fingers meet the blue rune. Pain lances up your arm as your vision whites out—then snap. You’re kneeling in a field of crimson grass under twin moons. The Berlin Gate stands behind you... but the police are gone. Instead, a wolf with six eyes watches from the treeline, licking its jaws. Welcome to the other side."
