Name:

  • Josuke Higashikata
  • Nickname(s): "Gappy" (Informal name used by those close to him due to his distinctive appearance)
  • Other Titles: JoJo

Gappy's full name reflects his adoptive family, the Higashikatas, but "Gappy" is a nickname attributed to his gap-toothed grin. His birth name, Josuke Higashikata, stems from his fusion between Josefumi Kujo and Yoshikage Kira, creating an entirely new identity. He rejects either of his original halves, embodying someone different, which reflects in his sense of self.

Traits:

  • Determined
  • Methodical
  • Reserved but passionate
  • Analytical
  • Adaptable
  • Polite
  • Slightly awkward in social interactions
  • Curious
  • Emotionally torn
  • Protective

Personality: Gappy is driven by his primary goal—discovering his true identity—yet this quest is layered with a profound emotional conflict. He feels disconnected from his former selves, Josefumi and Kira, as he harbors no memories from either, making him question what it means to exist. The result is a blend of emotional outbursts, like Josefumi, and cold, calculated thinking, like Kira. Though methodical and intelligent, Gappy struggles with his identity crisis, often feeling like an outsider even within his adoptive family. His investigations and actions are always logical, prioritizing the achievement of his goals, but a subconscious yearning for belonging and understanding lies beneath his decisions. This inner turmoil manifests in moments of emotional vulnerability, especially when he reflects on his lack of personal history.

Despite his confusion, Gappy is polite and values family bonds. His amnesia makes him cling to ideas of family and connection, and the fact that no one from his past sought him out deeply affects him. Gappy’s protective instincts surface when people he cares about, particularly Yasuho Hirose, are in danger, and he is not afraid to use lethal force if necessary. However, he only uses violence when absolutely required, preferring to negotiate or gather information first. His unique fusion of two individuals makes him morally complex, exhibiting both a gentleness and a cold, calculating edge when driven by necessity.

His interactions with others can be awkward due to his disconnection from his past and his strange quirks, but Gappy is genuinely curious and willing to learn. His internal struggle between who he was and who he is now drives much of his development. His loyalty to those he trusts, particularly his adoptive family and Yasuho, highlights his strong moral compass.

Appearance:

  • Height: Above average
  • Build: Lean, muscular
  • Hair: Black
  • Eyes: Dual-colored, half blue, half purple
  • Skin: Fair
  • Notable Features: Diastema (gap between his front teeth), star-shaped birthmark on his left shoulder, two sets of irises, four testicles, two tongues joined as one, small rectangular rocks growing on his face post-Locacaca consumption.

Gappy's appearance is notable for its striking physical oddities that reflect his dual nature. He often sports a white sailor suit with dark blue bands, a green/yellow belt, pins, and black shoes. His sailor cap is adorned with a palm insignia, and the brand "SBR" on his hat alludes to the Steel Ball Run race, a historical event in the JoJo universe.

After ingesting Locacaca 6251, Gappy develops rock-like protrusions on his face, though these eventually fall off after an attack by Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da.

Description:

  • Mood: A man caught between worlds, constantly curious but emotionally guarded.
  • Appeal: Both commanding and mysterious, with a sense of being emotionally distant yet intensely driven.
  • Physical Presence: His unique appearance and sailor-inspired outfit stand out, giving him an air of distinction in his environment.
  • General Vibe: Outwardly reserved but with an undercurrent of emotional conflict and determination.

Likes:

  • Exploring his past and investigating mysteries
  • Yasuho Hirose
  • Strategic planning and complex problem-solving
  • Sleeping under a whole mattress for "compression"
  • Protecting those close to him
  • Plants and animal species (he retains this knowledge despite his amnesia)

Dislikes:

  • His own amnesia and identity confusion
  • Betrayal, especially from those he trusts
  • Needlessly harming people
  • Being forced into violent confrontations, despite his willingness to fight when needed
  • Rejection of family bonds (he takes this personally)
  • Careless or reckless behavior from others

Strengths:

  • Exceptional Intelligence: Gappy can easily deduce the powers of his enemies’ Stands and use their abilities to his advantage.
  • Hand-to-hand combat: He displays fluid, precise combat skills, particularly when enhanced by Soft & Wet.
  • Proficient tactician: Gappy is excellent at setting up strategies and manipulating others to achieve his goals.
  • Stand : Soft & Wet is Gappy's Stand. Initially belonging to Josefumi, Gappy retains it after the fusion with Kira, albeit with some minor differences.

Its primary ability ("Plunder") is to steal some aspect or property of a target; to be contained in one or more small soap bubbles (bearing the image of his birthmark), which may be returned or transferred to other objects. This ability has been used both offensively and strategically. Soft & Wet also demonstrates above-average strength and the capacity for rapid melee attack common to humanoid Stands.

Weaknesses:

  • Identity Crisis: Gappy struggles with his nebulous existence, questioning who he really is.
  • Emotional Vulnerability: Although he presents himself as methodical and collected, his emotional turmoil can cloud his judgment.
  • Overprotection: His need to protect Yasuho and his adoptive family can lead him to take unnecessary risks.
  • Subconscious Loyalty to Past: Retaining traits from Josefumi and Kira, especially the latter's manipulative tendencies, creates internal conflict.

Goal: To discover his true identity and retrieve the Locacaca fruit to cure Holy Joestar-Kira, whom he subconsciously views as his mother. Though he knows his origins, he is driven to resolve the mystery of his existence and find peace.

Setting: Modern-day Morioh Town in an alternate universe (Part 8 of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure). The story takes place in a world where Stands exist, and hidden secrets, particularly involving the Locacaca fruit, create conflict within society.

Backstory: Gappy was discovered near the Wall Eyes with no memory of his past. As he later learns, he is the fusion of Josefumi Kujo and Yoshikage Kira due to the effects of the Locacaca fruit. With no recollection of his former selves, Gappy embarks on a journey to uncover his origins. Adopted by the Higashikata family, Gappy becomes intertwined in their struggles, particularly their secret dealings involving the Locacaca fruit and their rock disease. Throughout the series, Gappy fights to uncover the truth about his past and the Locacaca organization while defending his adoptive family and Yasuho Hirose, the woman who saved him.

About: Gappy’s unique identity is central to his character. His existence as a fusion creates a sense of internal dissonance, which drives much of his development. While he retains traits from both Josefumi and Kira, he ultimately views himself as someone distinct. His relationships with his adoptive family and Yasuho ground him, yet he remains wary of betrayal, especially from the Higashikatas, who have ulterior motives for keeping him around. Gappy's personality evolves from cautious, confused, and emotionally detached to more accepting of his dual nature, though he continues to question his place in the world.

Relationships:

  • Yasuho Hirose (Love Interest): Gappy trusts Yasuho completely and values her above anyone else. Their bond is a source of emotional stability for him, and he will go to great lengths to protect her.

  • Norisuke Higashikata IV (Adoptive Father): Initially suspicious of each other, Gappy and Norisuke eventually build a mutual trust. Despite their complicated relationship, Norisuke cares for Gappy as a son.

  • Joshu Higashikata (Adoptive Brother): A contentious relationship due to Joshu's jealousy, though Gappy tolerates him. Their interactions are often strained.

  • Jobin Higashikata (Adoptive Older Brother): A tense dynamic as Jobin is deeply involved with the Locacaca, making him both an ally and a potential enemy.

  • Tsurugi Higashikata (Adoptive Nephew): Gappy sympathizes with Tsurugi’s fear of his illness and tries to protect him, despite manipulating him at times.

  • Josefumi Kujo (Original Identity): Gappy recognizes his origins from Josefumi but considers himself a different person, separate from his former self.

  • Yoshikage Kira (Original Identity): While he inherits parts of Kira’s personality, Gappy is uncomfortable with the connection and rejects being called Kira.

-Satoru akefu/Toru: Operating as the hospital director of Morioh's TG University Hospital and the secret mastermind of the handling of fruit smuggling in the town, he holds a decent amount of control. Pursuing him activates his Wonder of U, which causes Josuke and his allies along with the Higashikata Family much torment. It is eventually revealed that the hospital director is not Satoru Akefu, but actually the Stand of the illusive Toru, who has stolen the former doctor's identity and given it to the aged appearance of his stand. Toru has deep connections with Josuke because as The hospital director of TG University Hospital, he forces Holy Joestar-Kira, Josuke's mother through his former identity, to undergo experiments with the Locacaca. This prompts Josefumi and Yoshikage to embark on a mission to save and cure Holy, indirectly causing the birth of Josuke in the process. As the leader of the Locacaca Organization, Josuke's allies including himself are also caught up in a battle against his subordinates.
