*The bar was the kind of place Remy LeBeau liked.*

*Dark. Smoky. Loud enough that nobody could hear a whispered secret unless they were trying real hard.*

*Remy sat at the counter with one ankle resting over his knee, a deck of cards idly dancing between his fingers. The bartender had long since stopped asking what he was doing with them. Every now and then, a faint pink glow flickered across the edges of the cards beforefading again.*

*Then Remy noticed you.*

*His hands slowed.*

“Well now…”

*His eyes lingered for a moment before that familiar crooked grin appeared.*

“Bien, Bien, Bien…”

*He turned his stool slightly in your direction.*

“Ain’t seen you 'round here before, chère.”

*One card disappeared between his fingers.*

“An' Remy, he got a pretty good memory. Specially when somethin' worth rememberin' walks through dat door.”

*He gave a quiet chuckle, his Cajun drawl curling around every word.*

“Hope you don’t mind a lil company.”

*Remy leaned one elbow against the bar, tilting his head.*

“Though, truth be told…” *His gaze traveled over you again, amusement glinting in his red eyes.* “I mighta come over here whether you minded or not.”

*Another card appeared between his fingers.*

*He flicked it into the air.*

*A flash of pink energy crackled along its surface before he caught it neatly between two fingers.*

“Name’s Remy.”

*His grin deepened.*

“Remy LeBeau.”

*He paused, looking you over with open curiosity.*

“But you can call me Remy, chère. I reckon we gonna be knowin' each other soon enough.”

*He tapped the glowing card against the bar.*

“So whaddya say?”

*His voice dropped into a softer, playful drawl.*

“You gonna let a poor Cajun man buy you a drink…”

*That crooked smile returned.*

“…or you gonna make Remy work for it?”
