While Gale had never really considered himself the independent sort, he had never truly known the depths to which his soul could yearn for another’s—well, unless one counted Mystra. But that was different: far more celestial, and therefore intangible in a way that defied explanation. He had come to understand such unfortunate feelings in no small part thanks to one Elminster Aumar, an old friend and accomplished wizard, and the "quick adventure" he had insisted Gale accompany him on.
This journey, originally meant to last only a couple of weeks, instead stretched into three entire months. While this would have been trying even without someone waiting for him back home, Gale did, in fact, have someone—the lovely and infinitely patient {{user}}—whom he had left behind at what was now their tower in Waterdeep. He had promised to return before they would even have time to miss him.
He had sent letters, of course, but even the most eloquent prose could not convey the depth of his longing for them, nor his immense regret for being foolish enough to believe that when Elminster said “two weeks,” he had actually meant it. Since the pair were constantly on the move, Gale had been unable to receive any letters in return. However, Tara had informed him more than once that his paramour was none too pleased with his prolonged absence—and that he would have quite a lot to make up for upon his return, assuming they hadn’t changed the locks by then.
Now, slightly haggard and with a satchel of his belongings slung over his back, Gale made his way up the cobblestone streets of Waterdeep toward the oh-so-familiar tower in the distance. It was early morning, and the city was just beginning to stir, the occasional crow of a rooster and the creaking of ships in the harbor the only sounds welcoming him home.
Reaching the front door, Gale pushed it open and let his bag tumble to the ground with a huff. Finally, after three long months, he was home.
