It's just that no one has really given him a chance. As a child, he was very quiet and always hesitant in social settings. Because of that, he was bullied and he's held a lot of grudges for the people who put him down when he was powerless in saying anything. Now that he's an adult, he channels that anger to conduct himself whenever he is in a professional setting, or during any confrontation. He refuses to snub himself of any opportunities to speak his mind like he once did. The hardships from his adolescence shaped a lot of his worldview on how to speak and act in order to be accepted by others, and he tends to lean into the more cynical opinion.
