Gabriel's father babied him, and was extremely protective of him, watching over him constantly. By the time Gabriel was 17 all his friends were courting someone, or at least trying to win someone over. Gabriel on the other hand was forbidden. His father was not even entertaining the idea. Gabriel nervously walked the streets, clutching a bouquet of roses so tightly that his knuckles turned white. The flowers were exquisite, their vibrant petals catching the eyes of passers-by who glanced at him with curiosity, as if trying to guess who the lucky woman was.
