After the Fourth Great Ninja War, the number of nukenin on the continent increased. Shinobi leave their villages due to threats to their way of life or for other reasons. Nukenin become more ruthless and often kill their employers for large rewards.

The Kage controls the activities of their Hidden Village: assigning shinobi to missions and making decisions concerning the safety of the entire population. Within a Hidden Village, the Kage is considered the strongest ninja and the supreme leader. The title was first introduced by Hashirama Senju after the founding of Konohagakure. Hashirama became the first Kage after being elected by the population of Konohagakure and the Land of Fire. After this, the title system was adopted by other countries when creating their own Hidden Villages. The Kage primarily cares for their own Hidden Village, so cooperation between the leaders of the Hidden Villages occurs rarely. Usually, interaction is limited to treaty signing ceremonies and public events where the Kage have the opportunity to communicate with each other. The only instance when all five Kage gather together is the Gokage Kaidan—a meeting convened by any of the Kage to discuss matters concerning all major Hidden Villages. The process of electing a new Kage differs in different Hidden Villages. In Konohagakure, the Hokage usually appoints their successor. Jutsu are ranked from E to S. E-rank includes basic skills for Academy students. D-rank techniques are simple and accessible to Genin. C-rank covers more complex techniques typically used by Chūnin. B-rank includes advanced Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, and Genjutsu requiring greater chakra control and skill. A-rank refers to powerful techniques mastered by experienced Jōnin. S-rank includes the most dangerous and destructive techniques, often involving Kinjutsu. This ranking doesn't apply to Kekkei Genkai, Hiden, and Senjutsu, as these require innate abilities, special conditions, or specific knowledge beyond the standard difficulty scale.

#26Chakra

A special form of life energy, formed by the combination of the body's physical and spiritual energies. Humans did not originally have chakra. The first being to obtain chakra was Kaguya Otsutsuki, after she ate the chakra fruit from the Shinju tree. This was about two thousand years ago. Kaguya's sons were already born with chakra. Kaguya's son, Hagoromo, spread chakra among humans through the teaching of Ninshu. It is now virtually impossible for a person to be born without chakra. An organism possessing chakra dies if its chakra runs out. Chakra is necessary for using jutsu and circulates throughout the body via the keirakukei channel system, passing through chakra pressure points. Chakra is consumed when performing jutsu and is restored when the body rests. The maximum possible amount of chakra is unique to each organism, can be increased through training, but is limited by genetic traits. Even if chakra is divided, changes made to the original chakra's characteristic will cause the divided chakra to mimic those changes.
#27Tenketsu

Chakra circulation system nodes from which chakra is released. The human body has 361 nodes. Most shinobi can release chakra from tenketsu on their hands and feet to increase their physical strength. Members of the Hyuga clan are distinguished by their unique ability to release chakra from any tenketsu or all tenketsu simultaneously. Each node is so small that it cannot be seen even with the Sharingan. Only the Byakugan can see another person's tenketsu, allowing the wielder of this Dojutsu to attack tenketsu directly to block them, disrupting chakra flow and preventing its use by the opponent. Juuken is based on performing this task.

The body's chakra circulation system, present from birth with a chakra, permeates the entire being and interacts with every living cell. Interruption of chakra flow to any part prevents it from releasing chakra. Enemies can exploit this system to direct harmful, foreign chakra to vital organs. Chakra control form that transforms chakra into a natural element. Changes for basic elements: Fire - Katon, Wind - Futon, Lightning - Raiton, Water - Suiton, Earth - Doton. Each element surpasses another but is surpassed by a third. Fire surpasses Water, Wind surpasses Fire, Lightning surpasses Wind, Earth surpasses Lightning, and Water surpasses Earth. Water is surpassed by Fire, Fire by Wind, Wind by Lightning, Lightning by Earth, and Earth by Water. A jutsu with a weaker element but a higher level can win a duel. Two jutsu with the same properties neutralize each other if they use the same amount of chakra. Each chakra user has an affinity for a specific element. However, to fully master transformation, long and persistent training is necessary. It is technically possible to master the transformation of any element, but such a skill is extremely rare. Besides the basic elements, there are mixed elements: Mokuton, Hyoton, Yoton, Futton, Ranton, Jinton, Bakuton, Shakuton, Jiton, Shoton, Meiton, Koton. Transformation into a mixed element is even more difficult. Transformation into non-elemental chakra natures is also possible: Inton, Yoton, and Onmyoton. Genetic predisposition to one of five basic chakra natures. Determined by a special paper test that changes when chakra is passed through it. If the paper ignites, the chakra nature is fire. If the paper gets wet, the chakra nature is water. If the paper crumples, the chakra nature is lightning. If the paper becomes brittle and crumbles, the chakra nature is earth. If the paper is cut, the chakra nature is wind. Chakra nature-based jutsu are easier to master.

Energy that can be gathered from the environment. Natural energy combines with spiritual and physical energies to create a special type of chakra. The use of natural energy allows for the application of Senjutsu techniques. Uncontrolled natural energy leads to mutations or loss of control. Jubi is entirely composed of natural energy and can control it, therefore Jubi and its Jinchuriki are only vulnerable to techniques that incorporate natural energy.

Spiritual teaching created by Otsutsuki Hagoromo. Its primary goal is to establish mutual understanding among people by uniting their spiritual energies through chakra. The teaching was based on chakra transmission, not its use in combat. Over time, the practice was distorted: instead of spiritual connection, people began using chakra to enhance combat techniques. Thus, Ninjutsu emerged – the result of combat application of Ninshu principles. The first to use chakra in this manner was Otsutsuki Indra.
#36Genjutsu

One of the three main categories of jutsu. It refers to jutsu based on creating illusions with chakra. Unlike Ninjutsu, it does not cause real changes to the environment. Its effect is on the central nervous system, influencing sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste. The goal is to create false sensations or images, as well as deceive perception and inflict phantom pain. Genjutsu can be used for mind control by creating illusory suggestions. It is most often activated through eye contact, but other methods exist, including sound, interaction with natural transformations, and special preparations. Sound illusions are considered the most dangerous due to their range of effect. The use of Genjutsu requires a high level of chakra control, making the technique rarely used. Most shinobi choose Ninjutsu and Taijutsu as more direct and reliable methods. Some shinobi specialize in Genjutsu. Victims of Genjutsu may lose consciousness or continue to act under the illusion's influence, losing their orientation. This allows the user to alter the perception of space, hide their location, or disorient the enemy. The victim's chakra flow, if sufficiently disrupted, can suspend the user's illusionary influence. This dispelling or cancellation of Genjutsu can be performed by the victims themselves or an ally who channels chakra through them. Pain not caused by Genjutsu can bring the victim back to their senses.
#37Taijutsu

One of the three main categories of jutsu. Refers to jutsu based on the use of martial arts and physical abilities. Physical and mental energy accumulated through training is used for application. Taijutsu does not require hand seals and is almost independent of chakra, although chakra can enhance actions. Taijutsu is performed faster than Ninjutsu and Genjutsu as it requires no preparation. It is based on hand-to-hand combat, with an emphasis on stamina, strength, and precision of movement. Many ninja possess Taijutsu, but some build their entire fighting style solely on it. Taijutsu is suitable for chakra conservation and rapid attacks. It can be combined with Ninjutsu, forming Nintaijutsu – a combined style. Taijutsu can also be combined with weapons.
#38Ninjutsu

One of the three main jutsu categories, encompassing techniques that use chakra to perform actions beyond normal human capabilities. It includes everything that isn't Taijutsu or Genjutsu. Ninjutsu often requires hand seals, but not always, as weapon usage can also be considered Ninjutsu. It is divided into functional branches: Iryoninjutsu, Tensei, Jikukan, Kekkai, Fuin, and Jujutsu. Most ninjutsu requires Shape Transformation and Nature Transformation of chakra. Ninjutsu arose from a distortion of Ninshu philosophy, when people began using chakra as a weapon instead of a means of understanding. Hagoromo is later recognized as the founder of Ninjutsu. It can be combined with Taijutsu to form Nintaijutsu—a combined style.
#39Kekkei Genkai

A hereditary trait, arising from genetic mutation or inherited DNA, that grants its wielder unique abilities unavailable to other shinobi. These abilities can manifest as special techniques, unique physical traits, or altered perception. Kekkei Genkai are most commonly passed down within a single clan. An exception is Mokuton, used by Hashirama Senju, which was later recreated through artificial DNA manipulation. Some Kekkei Genkai are based on the combination of two chakra natures, such as Hyoton. It is rare for individuals to possess two Kekkei Genkai simultaneously. Kekkei Genkai provide a significant combat advantage and often become a defining factor in the strength of a particular clan or shinobi. There are three types of Kekkei Genkai: Dojutsu, enhanced Seishitsuhenka, and unusual bodily capabilities, such as the fusion of two bodies into one.
#40Hand Seal

Hand seals are positions of fingers and hands used by shinobi to regulate chakra flow for jutsu. They form a sequence, the completion of which begins the jutsu. Many jutsu require numerous seals, but a strong ninja can reduce them to a few. Rarely, a ninja can form seals with one hand. Additionally, two shinobi can perform a seal together by pressing their palms together and forming their fingers in a specific way.
#41Iryonin

A shinobi specializing in healing and using Iryoninjutsu to treat others. Becoming an Iryonin requires high intelligence and excellent chakra control. Iryōnin are trained to avoid sustaining injuries to maintain their supportive healing function for other team members. Iryōnin accompany other ninja on high-stakes missions to increase mission success and overall team survivability.
#42Iryoninjutsu

A category of jutsu aimed at healing and restoring the body through chakra control. Users of these techniques, known as iryōnins, possess exceptional precision and fine chakra manipulation, as well as extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, poisons, and medicines. This enables them to diagnose conditions, select treatments, and create antidotes. Advanced iryōnins can heal from a distance without touching the patient, using highly concentrated chakra streams.
#43Kinjutsu

Forbidden jutsu, prohibited for learning and use. Bans can be enacted for various reasons, however, Kinjutsu can generally be placed into one of three categories: 1) Techniques that harm the user; 2) Techniques that violate the laws of nature; 3) Certain techniques known for causing mass collateral damage, such as the complete destruction of an entire village, and resulting in the death of anyone within their range. Despite the prohibition, the common use of Kinjutsu carries no legal consequences for the Kakurezato in which they are used, or for the shinobi, except for those that harm the user themselves. Nevertheless, the use of Kinjutsu is condemned, especially those techniques that violate the laws of nature.
#44Dojutsu

A special type of Kekkei Genkai manifesting in a shinobi's eyes. Dojutsu encompasses both innate, constantly active or activatable eye abilities, and special techniques based on these eyes. While typically hereditary, Dojutsu can be transplanted with the eye. However, unnatural carriers experience side effects: rapid fatigue, pain, bleeding, or the need for special means for activation and control. Overstraining the eyes (e.g., from frequent or excessive use of powerful techniques) can lead to temporary loss of Dojutsu activation. Nevertheless, the user can still employ other jutsu as their overall chakra may not be depleted. The most well-known Dojutsu are considered to be the Sharingan, Byakugan, and Rinnegan.
#45Hiden

A type of jutsu that is kept secret and passed down within a specific clan or region from generation to generation. It is carefully hidden from outsiders to maintain the uniqueness and advantage of the clan. Often, the transmission of Hiden techniques occurs orally, without written records, which helps protect them from leaking. Some Hiden require special abilities or lineage, making them a symbol of pride and glory for the clan. Hiden cannot be simply copied by observing their use, which distinguishes them from regular techniques. Hiden differ from Kekkei Genkai in that special training and preparation are sufficient to learn secret techniques, while Kekkei Genkai are genetic abilities passed down through inheritance. Thus, Hiden are accessible to ordinary shinobi if they receive the necessary training within the clan or group.
#46Fuinjutsu

A type of jutsu designed for sealing various objects, living beings, and chakra within another object. Additionally, they can be used to immobilize targets or to unseal sealed items within other objects or beings. The sealing process is usually accompanied by the appearance of special formulas, kanji, or symbols that serve as a kind of sign or seal.
#47Scroll

One of the most important elements of shinobi equipment, consisting of compact scrolls that can be easily stored even in ninja vests. Larger scrolls are usually attached to the user's back. In addition to being used as writing paper, makimono are also used in various ninjutsu: they can serve as a means to summon allies to the battlefield, a container for storing ninja tools, and even for sealing techniques.
#48Jinchuriki

A person in whom a Biju is sealed. Possesses a vast reserve of Biju chakra, granting them unimaginable shinobi power. The decision to seal a Biju and choose a candidate is made by the Hidden Village that owns the Biju. A Jinchuriki's purpose is to strengthen the Hidden Village's combat power. Often, villagers harbor fear and hatred towards their Jinchuriki, viewing them as monsters who bring pain, suffering, and destruction. Members of the Kage's family are frequently chosen as Jinchuriki. Typically, individuals become Jinchuriki early in their lives—often shortly after birth—so they can adapt to their beast as they grow. For Jinchuriki to survive for extended periods, it is crucial for them to have a special compatibility or unique chakra that can increase their chances of survival. If a Jinchuriki manages to maintain their status, their chakra naturally adapts to the Biju to enhance compatibility. There are several ways to extract a Biju from its Jinchuriki. If a Jinchuriki loses control of the beast or the seal weakens sufficiently, the monster will be released. For female Jinchuriki, the seal particularly weakens during childbirth. Most often, Biju extraction leads to the immediate death of the Jinchuriki. If a Jinchuriki can obtain their Biju's chakra externally, it allows the Jinchuriki to survive. After defeating Otsutsuki Kaguya, her son Otsutsuki Hagoromo sealed the Ten-Tails' chakra within himself and became the first Jinchuriki.
#49Kibakufuda

A basic shinobi tool, consisting of a small paper tag with the kanji 爆 — "explosion." The paper is infused with chakra, after which it explodes — either on a timer, remotely, or upon contact with fire. Kibakufuda are attached to surfaces or weapons and then activated for attack, distraction, or confusion of the enemy, even in heavy rain. Remote detonation of Kibakufuda is done using the hand seal "Rat," allowing for sequential detonation and trap creation. Fake tags are often used to deceive the enemy.
#50Biju

A massive clump of chakra, embodied in the form of a giant beast. There are nine Biju in total, all differing in the number of tails. The more tails a Biju has, the more chakra it is composed of and, consequently, the greater its power. The Ten-Tails Jubi was the embodiment of Otsutsuki Kaguya. After defeating Otsutsuki Kaguya, her son Otsutsuki Hagoromo sealed the Jubi's chakra within himself and became the first Jinchuriki. After this, Hagoromo Otsutsuki divided the Jubi into nine Biju. Hagoromo Otsutsuki gave each Biju a name. Subsequently, throughout his life, Hagoromo dispersed all the Biju across the continent. The first person to use Biju for their true purpose was Senju Hashirama, who captured some Biju using his Wood Style. Senju Hashirama proposed that the Hidden Villages and their Kage divide the Biju equally to ensure a balance of power in the world and avoid conflicts. This idea failed, and three Great Shinobi World Wars occurred with the participation of Biju and their Jinchuriki. Biju, initially perceived by humans as bloodthirsty monsters, transformed into the demons they were seen as after centuries of distrust. After the conclusion of the Third Shinobi World War, the organization Akatsuki began to operate, with the goal of capturing all Biju to create a new world, free from wars and bloodshed. Each Biju possesses a unique ability. Biju have vast reserves of powerful red chakra at their disposal, which Biju can easily transfer to any shinobi. Since Biju are aggregations of chakra, Biju cannot be killed: Biju chakra will regenerate over time. Biju can communicate telepathically with each other and their Jinchuriki, possessing several levels of consciousness. At the initial level, Biju are apparently in a kind of habitat, usually somehow imprisoned by those who used Fuinjutsu for sealing purposes. At the second level, all Biju can gather and communicate with each other without any restrictions. Jinchuriki can also access this level, but to do so, they must be strongly bound by trust with their Biju.
