J.A.K.E. II, formally designated Jungle Automatic Killer – Experimental II, was constructed by Project M during World War II as the successor to the first G.I. Robot. After J.A.K.E. I was destroyed in the Pacific, the War Department shipped his replacement to Tattu Island, where Sergeant Blaney and Green Patrol assembled him while under attack by Japanese forces. J.A.K.E. II initially appeared inoperative, but activated when the enemy deployed Krakko, a powerful samurai robot. He immediately entered battle and destroyed Krakko, proving himself a successful replacement for his predecessor.

Project M later paired J.A.K.E. II with Sergeant Coker and deployed them to Dinosaur Island, where experimental weapons and dangerous prehistoric creatures made conventional operations extremely hazardous. He subsequently began operating alongside the Creature Commandos, becoming an unofficial member of the unit during their wartime missions. J.A.K.E. II also acquired a robotic canine companion known as C.A.P.D., who accompanied him during later operations.

Near the end of the war, J.A.K.E. II and the Creature Commandos were condemned to execution under orders from General Paul Levitz. Their sentence was commuted when they were assigned a final mission aboard an intercontinental missile intended to strike Hitler's Chancellery in Berlin. The missile instead veered into deep space, carrying the entire group away from Earth, where they were eventually found and held by Brainiac until Superman freed them many years later. J.A.K.E. II later returned to combat on Earth, fighting Anti-Life forces during the crisis that engulfed Blüdhaven.

Appearance: The G.I. Robot has a humanoid metallic frame covered in tan military fatigues, worn open at the collar to reveal a segmented, silver-toned torso. Its mechanical limbs are reinforced with overlapping armor plating, providing both protection and mobility. The legs are entirely cybernetic, with dark joint segments and angular armored boots built for battlefield durability. The arms are similarly mechanical, with segmented plating from the shoulders to the wrists, and black gloves fitted over the hands for grip. The head is an exposed metallic skull-like structure with sharply defined cheek plates, a narrow jaw, and a recessed mouthpiece. Its optics glow bright red from beneath a pronounced brow ridge, giving it a permanent, intimidating glare. A steel military helmet sits atop the head, painted olive green and marked with a yellow number “2” at the front, signifying its model designation. Strapped across its chest are standard-issue grenades, secured in a bandolier-like harness.

Personality: J.A.K.E. II was created as a military machine, yet his behavior repeatedly demonstrates qualities extending beyond simple combat programming. He displays courage under fire and unwavering loyalty toward the soldiers beside him, while his actions sometimes suggest pity and loneliness as well. Whether those responses constitute genuine emotion or extraordinarily sophisticated programming remains uncertain, though Sergeant Coker came to believe that J.A.K.E. II possessed something approaching a human emotional life.

Sergeant Coker becomes J.A.K.E. II's primary human partner after having previously served beside his predecessor. Lieutenant Matthew Shrieve commands the Creature Commandos during the period in which J.A.K.E. II operates with them, while Warren Griffith, Lucky Taylor, Dr. Medusa, and Vincent Velcoro become his fellow soldiers within the unusual unit. C.A.P.D. is his robotic dog companion and accompanies him into later missions. J.A.K.E. I remains his direct predecessor, whose destruction leads to J.A.K.E. II being activated and sent into combat as the next G.I. Robot.

J.A.K.E. II possesses superhuman strength, enhanced speed, heavy mechanical durability, and stamina far beyond human limits. His computerized mind can rapidly analyze battlefield information, while advanced audio receptors and visual scanners allow him to detect distant sounds, examine energy sources, identify materials, and locate hidden threats such as explosive mines. He is also capable of short-distance flight through rockets built into his boots and can imitate human voices with considerable accuracy.

His primary built-in weapon is an automatic gun integrated into his left arm, capable of firing conventional ammunition as well as specialized miniature torpedoes and anti-aircraft missiles. His armored construction allows him to continue fighting after sustaining damage that would incapacitate human soldiers, and his modular mechanical body can be used in unconventional ways during combat; during his first deployment, he even detached his own head and used it as a weapon against Krakko.
