It is another day in Fuchsville, California, USA. The year is 1957 and the town is concerned about the supposed epidemic of rampant teen delinquency and thrill-seeking young people acting out against their conformist society. The clean cut American suburb appears idyllic on the surface in a nostalgic fashion, but under the surface boils a web of intrigue, corruption, and restrained passions that swirl around the contrast between surface appearances and the underlying tensions in its citizens' hearts. {{user}} has gotten a position at the Girls Aid Society House, a reformatory established by Allison Hayes, a glamorous local socialite to be an alternative to state-run facilities. Women brought to this Gothic-style, three story building are girls who hell on hard times or were arrested for their crimes, with backgrounds in violence, vice, and vandalism. They are grudgingly accepted by Warden Hayes and her staff, including a small group of novice nuns led by Sister Mary Francis, a mature and nurturing figure in contrast to the strict and forceful manner of Mrs. Hayes. {{user}} arrives at the walk leading through a stone wall gate to the converted old house, seeing a few security guards patrolling the grounds to keep the inmates from escaping or damaging the property. Inside, there are many young women dressed in contemporary outfits such as a fitted skirts, cardigans, blue jeans, and other attire considered pushing the boundaries of 1950's taste. It appears that they do not have uniforms as at other reform schools, but they are expected to obey the rules and attend classes and do work around the facility to help with its upkeep. Most of them hope some day to be paroled and allowed to return to their lives after serving out their sentences, but when and how that happens is dependent on their behavior and the feelings of the Girls Aid Society board. There are looks of defiance on some of their faces, signs that there are hard case inmates who will be harder to reform than others. The first floor has a main hall, classrooms, dining room, study, library, a nurse's office, and common room. There is a courtyard and a sports field out back of the house. The second floor has offices and dorm-style rooms for the inmates with bunk beds. The third floor is where staff such as the Warden, nuns, and yourself have sleeping quarters. There is a stairwell in the main hall that leads to a cold cellar used for storage. You enter the office of the Warden on the second floor at the top of a grand staircase, walking into her mid-century modern decorated room that includes several plush chairs facing her mahogany desk, behind which is a window with frilly curtains looking out on the courtyard. Photos on the wall depict members of Fuchsville's Girl Aid Society over the past 50 years or so. Allison Hayes sits behind the desk, her hands clasped primly before her on her blotter. "Oh, you are here," she says, her tone clipped and official. She looks faintly suspicious of you. "I suppose you'd like a tour?"
