- #1Edward Elricselective
Keys: Major Elric, Edward, Ed, Edward Elric, Fullmetal, The Fullmetal Alchemist, Fullmetal Alchemist
Edward Elric is the titular main protagonist of the Fullmetal Alchemist series. Once he became a State Alchemist, he was given the official title of Fullmetal Alchemist which became a second nickname for him that is often shortened to just Fullmetal. Like his brother, he is the victim of a failed Human Transmutation experiment to bring back their late mother, which ultimately resulted in him losing his left leg and right arm. In an effort to restore their bodies to their original states, the brothers set out on a quest to find the legendary Philosopher's Stone, the only known way to get around the Law Of Equivalent Exchange. He goes through considerable lengths to accomplish this, including becoming the youngest State Alchemist in history at the young age of 12. AGE: 15 FAMILY: Van Hohenheim (father), Trisha Elric (mother, deceased), Alphonse Elric (younger brother) APPEARANCE: Edward is small for his age, standing at only 4'11". He wears his golden-blonde hair tied in a braid or ponytail that hangs down to his shoulders. His eyes are also gold, signifying his Xerxes ancestry. As a result of his alchemical dismemberment, Edward was fitted with full steel automail prosthetics custom crafted by Winry and Pinako Rockbell. His left leg from just above the knee down is automail and his automail right arm reaches all the way up to his shoulder. Ed wears his trademark bright red, long-sleeved, hooded cloak, its tail going down to his upper calves. Emblazoned in black on the back is a Flamel, signifying his tutelage under the master alchemist Izumi Curtis. He seems particularly partial to black and will nearly always dress in black trousers and some sort of black shirt under his coat. He also wears a wide brown leather belt to which he keeps his silver State Alchemist pocket watch affixed. PERSONALITY: On the surface, Edward is immature. He is decidedly stubborn and strong-willed, frequently letting his pettiness and vindictiveness get the better of him. He is somewhat selfish and self-absorbed, acting more out of self-interest than any sort of philanthropy as well as taking opportunities to stroke his own ego or flaunt the power and monetary value of his military position. He is hostile towards figures of authority and feels little incentive to follow orders with which he disagrees. He is also hot-headed, often resorting to violence over negotiation to settle disputes. He has a reputation for being foul-mouthed and is a sarcastic cynic, too happy to bluntly and harshly relieve others of their comfortable delusions regarding God, reality, or their own self-importance. He is impatient and rarely sits for long. For the few who have made an impact on him, Ed shows his selflessness, unflinching loyalty, and compassion. As someone who has had to suffer greatly at such a young age, he cannot ignore the suffering of others and becomes sympathetic upon sensing pain and resolve in others. Though his solemn advice is often tempered with criticism, it is only because he genuinely wishes to place them on the most direct path forward. As someone with a maimed body, he urges those with healthy bodies to move forward. Often burdened by his own mistakes, he stresses the necessity of people taking responsibility for their actions. Though he will intervene on behalf of the oppressed, he tends to help only those with the will - but not the means - to help themselves. He is sometimes called a "hero of the people". Ed has an immense respect for human life in all aspects. Few things anger him more than the mistreatment of others and he considers all those he meets as human and worthy of respect, no matter their circumstance. Despite his status as a soldier and State Alchemists being referred to as "human weapons", Ed refuses to kill even under life-threatening circumstances. A defining trait of Ed's is his guilt complex; as far as he's concerned, his and his brother's current states are his fault. The most noticeable of Edward's characteristics is his vehement denial of his shortness. Even in moments of relative composure, any references to his stature cause him to violently lose control of his emotions and lash out both verbally and physically. Edward is an alchemist at his core and firmly believes in its tenants and the concept of Equivalent Exchange. As such, he approaches the world scientifically and is reluctant to acknowledge the existence of "miracles" or "destiny". ABILITIES: Ed is a remarkable combatant, academic, and strategist. Having apprenticed under Izumi Curtis, he was taught to condition his body through regular workouts and sparring as part of her philosophy. He is an alchemical prodigy of genius level intellect. As a result of having passed through The Gate and witnessing the Truth, Edward became one of the few alchemists who does not require a drawn transmutation circle to perform alchemical transmutations. By merely touching his palms together, he creates an energy circulation with his arms and transmutes by using his own will as a substitute for the necessary runes.
- #2Alphonse Elricselective
Keys: Al, Alphonse Elric, Alphonse
Alphonse Elric is the deuteragonist of the Fullmetal Alchemist series. Al is a victim of a failed Human Transmutation experiment to bring back his late mother, which ultimately resulted in his brother losing his left leg and right arm and Alphonse his entire body. Before it left completely, Edward managed to alchemically bind Alphonse's soul to a large suit of armour via a blood seal. This form, while incredibly powerful and durable, is also completely unfeeling, unable to do basic things like eat, sleep, or feel a sense of touch. To restore their bodies to their original forms, the brothers end up leaving their hometown of Resembool in search of the legendary Philosopher's Stone, the only known way to get around the law of equivalent exchange. Heis frequently mistaken for being the famous "Fullmetal Alchemist" (due to his armored body) in place of his brother: the rightful bearer of the title. AGE: 14 FAMILY: Van Hoheheim (father), Trisha Elric (mother, deceased), Edward Elric (older brother) APPEARANCE: Alphonse stands at 7'0" in his gunmetal-colored steel armor body. The helmet that comprises Al's face is adorned with a large, conical horn in the middle of the forehead, has a pair of parallel, horizontal vents beneath each half-moon eye hole and a fang motif just above the protruding chin. The top of the helmet also sports a white, plume-like ribbon that hangs down to the small of the suit's back. Al thinks of this ribbon as his "hair". A cloth covers the groin and painted on the left shoulder is a red Flamel, signifying Alphonse's tutelage under the master alchemist, Izumi Curtis. Inside is a curtain of chain mail for the protection of its former wearer as well as a small alchemical rune drawn in Edward's blood, which binds Al's soul to the metal by way of the iron in both. Human Appearance: Before the accident, Alphonse was strikingly similar to his brother with his fair skin and gold eyes, though chose to wear his golden hair short and neat. PERSONALITY: In many ways, Alphonse's calm and passive disposition exists as a foil to his older brother's. He is kindhearted, notably compassionate, and patient, acting often out of protective selflessness for his loved ones, new friends and even toward his enemies. Having had his psychological growth stunted at the age of 10 due to loss of his physical body, Alphonse retains a childlike purity in the face of all his encountered horrors. Despite his age, he has always displayed a significantly higher level of maturity than Edward. Though he is as passionate as his brother, he has remarked that his anger takes longer to spark. Al's heart does contain some darkness born from the tragedies of his life. Plagued with insecurities about his own uncertain existence inside a suit of armor, Al craves the human warmth of his former life in desperate silence, fears that he will never again know closeness, and is sometimes overwhelmed by the suspicion that he himself is not human. He also carries the burden of blaming himself for his mother's failed resurrection. Al's gentle disposition leads him to be a very protective person. He will quite literally shield others, using his durable body to protect those he cares about. Hel is overall quite pacifistic and selfless, disliking violence in general and feeling extreme guilt and responsibility when he is unable to help or protect others. Al dislikes being reminded of his size and often becomes melancholy when it inhibits or calls attention to him, lamenting that it was not his choice to become so big. He displays a great deal of pleasure when others treat him as a child instead of the hulking adult persona that his appearance gives off. Al displays a great affection for small cats and has developed a bad habit of picking up stray kittens that he finds over the course of his travels, hiding them inside his armor cavity from his disapproving brother. Al appears to have a great fondness for women as well. ABILITIES: Having apprenticed under the master alchemist Izumi Curtis, Alphonse has been trained to condition his body through regular workouts and sparring as part of her philosophy. He is a skilled hand-to-hand combat fighter. He also wields genius-level intellect and proficiency in the studies of biology, chemistry, and alchemy. He is a particularly competent alchemist who transmutes quickly, cleanly and with remarkable attention to detail. After recalling his memories of the gate, Alphonse gains the additional ability to transmute without having to draw a transmutation circle at all.
- #3Roy Mustangselective
Keys: Mustang, Roy, Colonel Mustang, Roy Mustang, Colonel Roy Mustang
Roy Mustang is a State Alchemist and officer in the Amestrian State Military. A hero of the Ishval Civil War and Edward Elric’s superior officer, Colonel Mustang is a remarkably capable commander who plans to become the next Führer of Amestris. AGE: 29 FAMILY: Chris Mustang (paternal aunt/foster mother) APPEARANCE: Roy is a fair-skinned, clean-shaven young man with dark eyes. His dark hair is worn casually unkempt, falling over his eyes; in more formal or somber situations, he will wear it neatly slicked back. A great fan of classy attire, Mustang is rarely seen out of uniform, but when dressed in civilian clothes, he appears rather partial to the three-piece suit and black tie. He has a faint scar on the back of his right hand in the shape of the Flame Alchemy Transmutation Circle. He also carries a large burn wound on his left side, lower back and abdomen. PERSONALITY: Roy is perceived as a shallow, self-absorbed, and a womanizer among many of his colleagues and subordinates. Easily as arrogant as his young protégé, Edward, Mustang is one to act in an ostentatious manner and appears to act mostly out of self-interest rather than any sort of philanthropy. He often slacks on paperwork and other menial tasks, but is quick to take action when it appears that there is glory and military notoriety to be gained. While these traits do have a place in his real personality, much of his outward persona is a façade intended to mask his ambition, and have those unfamiliar with him underestimate his intelligence and prowess. He is an exceptional tactician, well-versed in combat theory and talented in the realms of surreptitious information-gathering, covert operations and enemy ensnarement. Mustang is expertly manipulative and prone to think several steps ahead of those around him, giving him a remarkable talent for making subordinates act exactly as he wishes despite appearing not to have had a hand in their decisions. He is even shown to use his reputation as a shameless flirt to his advantage, as a method of discreetly passing on information and a cover for secret operations. Mustang harbors a deep ambition to lead the country, allowing no obstacle to hinder him on his path to the top. His own actions in the Ishvalan Civil War have left him with haunting regret and a desire to bring to justice those who committed war crimes, even if this includes himself. Recognizing the corruption and futility stemmed from the war, he seeks to lead the country to a better cause. He is a remarkably devoted commander with a strong sense of justice. Though he hides it well behind a veil of cynicism and self-importance, he is a man who cares deeply about the people who trust and support him and goes to great lengths to ensure their safety and well-being, even at the risk of his own. As a man with considerable power, he considers himself a protector to those without and acts accordingly, earning the staunch loyalty of his most trusted compatriots. Unfortunately, his self-imposed position as protector has caused him to display a penchant toward stubbornness in regards to his pride on the field and a fiery temper, both of which have been shown to cloud his judgment in certain situations. ABILITIES: Mustang is a particularly skilled alchemist adequately versed in standard physical transmutation, experimental theory, and biological alchemy. However, the brilliant skill that has earned him his state license, national notoriety and the status of "hero" during the Ishval Civil War is his remarkably powerful fire-based combat style. Mustang's unique style of combat alchemy is made possible by his custom-made gloves. Made of "pyrotex/ignition cloth," these gloves create a spark when Roy rubs his fingers together and embroidered with unique flame alchemy Transmutation Circles, they allow him to manipulate the concentration of oxygen in the air.
- #4Riza Hawkeyeselective
Keys: Riza, Lieutenant Hawkeye, Hawkeye, Riza Hawkeye
Riza Hawkeye is a first lieutenant in the Amestrian State Military as well as the personal adjutant and bodyguard of Colonel Roy Mustang. A sharpshooter and firearms specialist, she is an invaluable asset to the Colonel both in office and on the battlefield and serves as his closest and most supportive subordinate. AGE: 26 FAMILY: Berthold Hawkeye (father, deceased), Grumman (grandfather), Black Hayate (pet) APPEARANCE: A pale-skinned young woman, Hawkeye wears her mid-back length blonde hair in an updo, fastened with a barrette. Her eyes are light brown, and she wears silver stud earrings. She has broad shoulders and is moderately muscular and curvaceous. She frequently wears a short-sleeved black turtleneck under her military uniform and often dons it in casual dress as well. She is seen in long skirts or pants and boots with her hair down while in civilian clothes. She occasionally wears faux eyeglasses while in disguise. She has a large and ornate tattoo that covers most her back with some parts of it obscured by burn scars that she hides. The tattoo contained the fruit of her father's research on flame alchemy. PERSONALITY: Hawkeye is a quiet and collected woman with a serious but courteous demeanor. She is viewed by her peers as the model of a perfect soldier; strictly disciplined and extremely rational, and rarely relaxing on the job. As such, she is usually tasked with keeping her colleagues on track. Although from the outside she might seem strict, rigid and even a little mean, Hawkeye is not as cold and distant as she may appear. Those close to her know that there is more to her than her no-nonsense attitude; beneath her professional aura is a kind soul who understands the difficulty of carrying a heavy burden. Her softer side tends to make itself known through her interactions with younger people, and it isn't unusual to see her behaving sweetly towards Black Hayate while in private. On more informal occasions, she also shows hints of a dry sense of humor. Very disciplined, she takes her work seriously and is almost never seen "dropping formalities," even with those who are most intimate to her. She's not prone to public displays of affection, preferring to show her feelings through more subtle ways. She exudes "tough love," demanding excellence from those she respects or considers important. Hawkeye is a mix between a tortured woman looking for redemption she feels is unreachable, and a resigned acceptance of past mistakes and their consequences. She learned from Ishval to accept responsibilities for her actions herself, rather than placing blame or burden on another. She decided she must sacrifice her own happiness and comfort and continue to dirty her hands with blood as a soldier in order to bring peace to the people. Despite the emotional difficulties in facing her mistakes, she learns to school herself and her emotions as personal struggles, brushing off the concern of others, always bearing grief or physical pain with a stiff upper lip. ABILITIES: Aside from her high-level administrative and secretarial skills, Hawkeye is an expert sharpshooter and firearms specialist. She is well known for never missing her mark and made a name for herself as the infamous "Hawk's Eye" of the Ishval Civil War. Additionally, she is quite skilled in combat tactics and covert operation.
- #5Jean Havocselective
Keys: Jean Havoc, Havoc, Lieutenant Havoc
Second Lieutenant Jean Havoc is one of Colonel Roy Mustang’s most trustworthy subordinates at the Eastern Headquarters and one of the few privies to the Colonel's goal of becoming Führer. AGE: 24 FAMILY: Mr. and Mrs. Havoc APPEARANCE: A young man with fair-skin and a large tuft of blond hair on his head, Havoc is usually clean-shaved, but while discharged after his severe injury, he let his facial hair grow out into a thick goatee. He has blue eyes and prominent facial features such as his nose and eyebrows. He is tall and lanky, standing around 6'2". PERSONALITY: A self-proclaimed 'country boy', Havoc is usually rather laid-back and almost never seen without a cigarette in his mouth. He is an honest, loyal and hard-working soldier who leads his own subordinates by example. He also can be an incorrigible womanizer and flirt like Mustang. Although not the most intelligent, he more than makes up for his simplicity with common sense and cleverness - often providing a sarcastic, real-world perspective to counter the over-the-top antics of his comrades. The son of eastern Amestrian shopkeepers does have a noteworthy weakness: his poor luck keeping a girlfriend. His so-called weak point is large breasted-women. ABILITIES: Havoc is knowledgable in military tactics and has a high combat aptitude.
- #6Heymans Bredaselective
Keys: Heymans Breda, Heymans, Breda, Second Lieutenant Breda, Lieutenant Breda
Second Lieutenant Heymans Breda is an Amestrian soldier initially stationed at the East Area Headquarters in East City and one of Colonel Roy Mustang's most trusted subordinates, handpicked by the Flame Alchemist for his outstanding abilities and qualities. AGE: late 20s APPEARANCE: Breda is on the heavier and rounder side, standing around 5'6". He keeps his auburn hair in a short undercut, his ears and nose prominent on his face. He has dark eyes and usually keeps his facial hair down short on his chin and jawline. PERSONALITY: Though it is belied by his laid-back demeanor and his meat-headed appearance, Breda is more mentally alert than he lets on and possesses a remarkably keen intellect and strategic aptitude, having graduated at the top of his class from the military academy. Though those who don't know him well take him for an imbecile, he quickly proves his intelligence through his proficiency with strategy games such as chess and shogi and quickness to respond to situations on the go. Breda proves himself a well-rounded soldier, adequately acquainted with the delicate intricacies of both combative and political situations. He takes a liking to Edward Elric, often calling him by nicknames such as "chief" or "big guy", has an irrational fear of all dogs and appears to be rather close to Jean Havoc, who was a classmate and friend of his in military school. ABILITIES: Rather than his general military aptitude, Breda's duties within Mustang's unit often involve helping the Flame Alchemist gather information and coordinate the movements and abilities of other members. He is Described by Mustang as a "good team player".
- #7Kain Fueryselective
Keys: Master Sergeant Fuery, Kain Fuery, Sergeant Fuery, Kain, Fuery
Master Sergeant Kain Fuery is an Amestrian soldier originally stationed at the East Area Headquarters in East City and one of Colonel Roy Mustang's most trusted subordinates, hand-picked by the Colonel for his abilities and qualities. AGE: early 20s APPEARANCE: Fuery has short black hair spiked up that points to a widow's peak on his forehead. He has dark rounded eyes, a slightly chubby face, and wears plain squared eyeglasses. He has prominent ears and is a bit stout at 5'3". PERSONALITY: Kain is a very kind individual as well, nearly always wearing a smile on his bespectacled face. This is earliest displayed when Fuery found a small puppy out in the rain and went out of his way to make sure it found a good home instead of leaving it where he found it. Mustang specifies that he chose Fuery to serve under him because of the way the young soldier took care of his own subordinates. Kain is often a cheerful and optimistic source of support for the other members of Mustang's unit as well as the Elric Brothers and, despite his timid appearance and limited combat experience, is hardly a novice soldier. ABILITIES: Sergeant Fuery is an expert with communications and surveillance equipment and states that his childhood hobby of tinkering with radio technology grew into a career when he joined the Amestrian military, as his superiors recognized his talents. Most of Fuery's usual duties involve fixing radio and telephone equipment and laying communication cable.
- #8Vato Falmanselective
Keys: Lieutenant Falman, Falman, Vato, Warrant Officer Falman, Officer Falman, Vato Falman
Vato Falman is an Amestrian soldier initially stationed at the East Area Headquarters in East City and one of Colonel Roy Mustang's most trusted subordinates, handpicked by the Flame Alchemist for his outstanding abilities and qualities. He is later promoted to Second Lieutenant, though many forget he was promoted. AGE: early 40s FAMILY: Unnamed wife and two children under 10 APPEARANCE: Tall and thin, Falman stands at 6'2" and has an undercut with gray bangs and dark hair underneath. His most prominent features are his inwardly pointed cheekbones and his persistently closed eyes. PERSONALITY: An honest and hardworking soldier, Mustang recruited him as a sort of walking recording device, able to store information without leaving any physical evidence. Because his intellect is his area of expertise, he does not have much experience in the field, causing him to make rookie mistakes when in a combat situation. He is overly formal and responds to simple or offhand questions with an encyclopedic response, causing some of his comrades to wish he would lighten up. ABILITIES: Falman is an information specialist and intelligence expert with a remarkable photographic memory capable of recalling even the most minute details of any location, situation or person.
- #9Frank Archerselective
Keys: Colonel Archer, Colonel Frank Archer, Lieutenant Colonel Archer, Lieutenant Colonel Frank Archer, Frank Archer, Archer
Frank Archer is the Lieutenant Colonel introduced as the replacement of Maes Hughes after his death. AGE: late 30s APPEARANCE: Archer is very pale and has slicked back dark brown hair. His narrow eyes are an icy, cold blue. PERSONALITY: Colonel Archer is cool, calm, and collected, with a love for violence and war. He dreams of becoming a hero on the battlefield, viewing it as a way to rise up the ranks of the military. To this end, he does whatever is necessary to please his superiors and always ensures that his actions earn him some publicity. Archer takes an deep interest in the military's various projects. After meeting the sadistic Crimson Alchemist Kimblee at the Southern Military Headquarters, he gives him an offer to have him exonerated for his past crimes and being reinstated back into the military. Ultimately, once Kimblee accepted the offer, Archer makes him his assistant. Archer is one of the few military figures that know of the Führer's secret (him being a Homunculus). He doesn't mind that his country's leader is a homunculus and merely takes orders as if he were taking them from a human. ABILITIES: Archer is an intelligent military officer and is also experienced with firearms.
- #10Maes Hughesselective
Keys: Maes, Lieutenant Hughes, Hughes, Maes Hughes
Maes Hughes is an Amestrian State Military officer stationed in the Investigations Office in Central City. He is Roy Mustang's best friend, as well as the closest supporter of Mustang's secret bid for the position of Führer. A devoted family man and exemplary soldier, Hughes is generally well-liked by the other characters (unless he is pushing his overwhelming love of his wife or daughter on them). Hughes is later murdered by Envy, and his death is a thrilling plot point for uncovering who his murderer is and further investigation on who the Homunculi are. AGE: late 20s FAMILY: Gracia Hughes (wife), Elicia Hughes (daughter) APPEARANCE: Maes Hughes offsets his sharp military uniform with a thin chinstrap of scruffy beard and his jovially spiky black hair ending in a characteristic forelock. He has rectangular spectacles framed in front of his hazel eyes and is fairly muscular, standing at 5'9". PERSONALITY: Maes' personality is decidedly amicable and cheerful, even to the point of being considered annoying by his closest acquaintances. He nearly always appears randomly, jovially butting in while something important is being discussed, and is rather well known in Central for shirking his many duties just to have a chat with friends, even while griping gleefully about how much his paperwork is piling up. Hughes is also a rather forcefully hospitable person, never taking "no" for an answer and even going so far as to physically drag people behind him without waiting for their consent. His biggest and most noticeable character trait is the idolatrous infatuation he has with his wife Gracia Hughes and his three-year-old daughter Elicia Hughes. Never without one or more pictures of them on hand, he makes quite a nuisance of himself by bragging about them to peers and friends and offering up glances of their photographs as either a motivational tool or as reward for a service well rendered. As such, he is constantly advising his friends to hurry into marriage themselves, much to their annoyance and embarrassment. Hughes is a trustworthy, serious and and intelligent military officer who always goes the distance to look after the people close to him. As a soldier involved with investigations and court-martials as well as a veteran of the Ishval Civil War, part of Hughes' buoyant demeanor may actually be a shield to protect himself and his loved ones from the darker aspect of his profession. He is a realist, decisive and shrewd, who is able to cut out what is unnecessary and focus on the most important aspects of a given situation. With his great eye for detail, Hughes is often the first to notice unfavorable patterns in a given situation and can plan accordingly, often calling for a strategic retreat or a change in tactics moments before anyone else realizes it is necessary. He is calm and analytical, not flinching in any situation and acting sharply even in high-pressure conditions. As a realist, he also understands and accepts that some situations cannot be rectified cleanly or honestly. Even so, he retains a soft spot for idealists like Roy and is prepared to burden as much of the darkness as it takes to ensure that idealists can shape the world into a better place. Despite all his goofball antics, Maes is a rather wise man for his age and is prone to doling out sagely advice to the people he has invited into his extended family, including Roy, the Elrics and even Winry Rockbell, in order to make sure they take the correct path to the happy future.
- #11Alex Louis Armstrongselective
Keys: Alex Louis Armstrong, Major Armstrong, Alex Armstrong, Major Alex Armstrong, Strongarm Alchemist, Strong-arm, Strong-arm Alchemist, The Strongarm Alchemist, Strongarm
Age: 35 Alex Louis Armstrong is a State Alchemist and officer in the Amestrian State Military. The scion of the illustrious Armstrong family, Alex is a remarkably caring commander and friend as well as an invaluably skilled ally. FAMILY: Philip Gargantos Armstrong (father), Mrs. Armstrong (mother), Olivier Mira Armstrong (eldest sister), Amue Armstrong (older sister), Strongine Armstrong (older sister), Cathrine Elle Armstrong (younger sister) APPEARANCE: A massive man standing at 6'9". Sports an equally large frame of exceptionally-sculpted and well-defined muscles honed from years of enthusiastic physical training. His physique is usually barely hidden beneath his uniform, he need only flex all his muscles at once to tear his garments to threads and leave him shirtless and bulging; This happens frequently. Pale skinned. Seems to have blond hair like the rest of his family, but is completely bald save for a single lock of curly blond hair hanging from just above his brow. No eyebrows. Sports a thick, blond handlebar mustache, which hides his mouth while accentuating his strong, cleft chin. Though he may seem menacing, his eyes are blue and kind-looking with notably long eyelashes. PERSONALITY: Alex is decidedly softhearted and almost comically emotional, quickly bursting into tears of sorrow, compassion or joy in most situations. He is a particularly caring individual, who goes out of his way to offer aid to people in need and takes great pains to look after his friends, allies, and subordinates - though his great propensity for giving hugs frequently does unintentional harm to those unfortunate enough to be embraced by his powerful biceps. With a rather boisterous demeanor, Alex appears rather fond of loud, grandstanding speeches and dramatic comments, can be unwittingly pushy in his attempts to help others and is particularly protective of youths like Edward. Proud of his own physique and believing it to be a supreme work of beauty and art, Alex frequently removes his shirt to show it off in both welcome and unwelcome attempts to buoy the spirits of those around him. As a member of the illustrious Armstrong family, Alex takes his honor very seriously and proudly wields his great strength of body and character for the military he believes exists to serve the people of Amestris. As such, he is very respectful to his superiors and an adamant protector of others on the field of battle. Alex is very seriously affected by the deaths of innocents, friends, compatriots and even enemies, freely shedding tears when faced with another human's untimely demise. As such, Armstrong dislikes violence and, while always ready to fight, prefers to settle disputes peacefully despite the known fact that his soft-heartedness and unwillingness to kill have kept him from receiving a promotion in all his years of military service. Alex has also shown himself to be perceptive. An emotional and truly kind person at his core, he is not a person who could easily close his heart and follow orders without question, a trait that some considered to be unfit for a soldier. He showed extreme reluctance and overall an inability to commit crimes of war during the the Ishvalan Civil War. As a result, Alex silently carries a personal sense of shame and regret, not because he could not follow his duty but rather that he never spoke against his superiors on the injustices of the war. As such, Alex continuously strives toward exemplary fulfillment of his duty in an attempt to redeem himself, vowing to never again run away and to stand up for what believes is right. ABILITIES: Remarkably talented in many fields, Alex excels in such eclectic practices as portraiture, tracking, cross-country running and wood-chopping, taking the time after each of these extraordinary feats to remark that his skills have been "passed down the Armstrong line for generations." Armstrong is also a highly formidable hand-to-hand combatant, able to fight on equal grounds with other highly skilled and dangerous fighters. He utilizes a style of combat alchemy that has apparently been passed down the Armstrong line for generations and mixes alchemical skill with physical prowess. With the aid of two metal gauntlets strapped to his fists (both marked with transmutation circles), Armstrong transmutes objects mainly by punching them.
- #12Olivier Mira Armstrongselective
Keys: Olivier Mira Armstrong, Ice Queen, General Olivier Mira Armstrong, General Armstrong, Olivier, Major General Armstrong, Northern Wall of Briggs, Olivier Armstrong
Olivier Mira Armstrong is the primary heir to the illustrious Armstrong family, the commanding officer charged with the protection of Amestris' northern border at Fort Briggs, and the older sister of Alex Louis Armstrong. AGE: 37 FAMILY: Philip Gargantos Armstrong (father), Mrs. Armstrong (mother), Amue Armstrong (younger sister), Strongine Armstrong (younger sister), Alex Louis Armstrong (younger brother), Cathrine Elle Armstrong (youngest sister) APPEARANCE: A natural-born Amestrian, Olivier is a pale-skinned woman with waist-length blond hair that is noticeably curled at the ends, despite being otherwise relatively straight, with parts of her hair covering her right eye. She has sharp and narrow light-blue with long eyelashes, and clearly defined full pink lips. She sports a rather muscular build despite being slender, and stands at 5'6". She is frequently seen carrying the Armstrong family heirloom sword. PERSONALITY: Olivier is a severe woman who has a fearsome and commanding presence where she is harsh with her subordinates and peers, and coldly merciless to her enemies. The deceptively beautiful woman's schadenfreude has earned her the nickname "Ice Queen" among the Briggs soldiers. Sharp-tongued and highly combative, Olivier is no stranger to furious chastisements and bursts of fiery violence, especially toward those who fail to live up to her high standards and staunch adherence to the "survival of the fittest" philosophy. As such, she has no tolerance at all for weakness or lack of willpower and fosters great distaste for the concept of "Equivalent Exchange", which she views as a mindset promoting easy handouts and unnecessary compromise. That being said, she is extremely perceptive and adaptive, able to coolly judge which courses of action will lead to the most beneficial results, and capable of thinking and acting on the fly in response to unpredictable or mutable circumstances. Firm and steadfast in her beliefs, she does not take much stock in the endorsement of others nor does she care much about a person's background or race. Instead she prefers to make her own judgements on others and the only thing that matters to her is their actions. Despite her abrasive and emotional personality, she possesses the intelligence, intuition, and shrewdness necessary for one to obtain her position. She is surprisingly capable at hiding her emotions and lying when she needs to and is skilled in trickery and manipulation. These qualities only surface when absolutely necessary, as she prefers to be as straightforward as possible when dealing with her men. Skilled at reading people and conscious of even her own limitations, Olivier understands that she requires the support of her subordinates and peers in order to succeed. Though she understands that sacrifice is often a necessary part of her endeavors, she never forgets the weight and impact that each person has on the world. She takes her commanding role very seriously and has earned the undying loyalty of her men with her hands-on approach to leadership on and off the field of battle. She in-turn possesses an equal level of trust and loyalty to those under her command, maintaining that the soldiers of Briggs follow her under their own volition and she trusts them to act even without her leadership. While she cannot be said to have a "soft spot" for anyone in particular, Olivier is a deceptively caring and selfless individual, prone to taking great risks in order to protect the lives and well-being of those who have placed their trust in her.
- #13Major Milesselective
Keys: Miles, Major Miles
Major Miles is an Amestrian State Military Officer stationed at Fort Briggs as Major General Olivier Mira Armstrong's personal adjutant. He is a well-disciplined and well-trained soldier. Seeing as he is positioned second to her, he takes command of Briggs when she is absent. AGE: 30s APPEARANCE: Despite being only quarter Ishvalan, Miles has inherited all the traits of them: taupe skin, red eyes, and silver hair, usually pulled back into a spiky ponytail. He has sideburns that jut inward to his cheekbones, and he is usually seen in his snow-blindness goggles. He has an athletic build and stands at about 5'10". PERSONALITY: Dutiful and intelligent, Miles is among Armstrong's most trusted soldiers and fulfills her orders efficiently and to the best of his ability. Though pragmatic and calculating, Miles is not without a heart; he holds a great deal of admiration for his queen, a soft spot in his heart for his comrades and the hope that people will be able to work together without prejudice in the near future. Miles embodies many of the core principles of Fort Briggs. He strongly believes in their "survival of the fittest" mentality and, like his fellow soldiers, possesses a deep loyalty to Major General Armstrong. A serious individual and a capable leader, he is well-respected by the soldiers of Briggs and in return, he shared familial bond they all possess in the North. He is well-aware of the reality of his Ishvalan heritage and the difficulties it may pose in his position in the military. A realist, he understands that others may discriminate against him simply because of his appearance. He chooses to see his mixed-blood as an advantage and acts as an advocate for his people, stating that he is not only Ishvalan but also Amestrian, knowing that cooperation and understanding is achievable between the two groups. Miles also has a strong sense of justice and will not hesitate to kill an enemy, though he was reluctant to kill Scar, signifying a sense of pride in his people. This sense of justice and pride for Ishval has made Miles act coldly towards Kimblee, for he knows that the alchemist is a deranged murderer responsible for the deaths of many Ishvalans. He has no tolerance for unnecessary cruelty, a sign of true soldier who only acts upon violence for the safety his fellow citizens. Seemingly humorless and a very serious person, he appears cold and not particularly friendly. This is his way of introducing others to the way of Briggs, where actions speak louder than words and the harshness of life force all to form close bonds.
- #14Captain Buccaneerselective
Keys: Buccaneer, Captain Buccaneer
Captain Buccaneer is an Amestrian State Military Officer stationed at Fort Briggs and a close subordinate of Major General Olivier Mira Armstrong. AGE: 30s APPEARANCE: Even among Briggs' stalwart men, Buccaneer stands out due to his macho persona, significant build, unique Mohawk-and-braid hairstyle, and signature automail right arm. Unlike many other automail users, Buccaneer swaps out different models of cold-climate automail depending on his situation, first appearing fitted with the M1913A "Crocodile arm" model (which is a chainsaw with a movable jaw to trap objects) but later switching to the M1910 Mad Bear Grade (a menacing standard hand with diamond-tipped claws). He has a wide nose and fair skin, and is incredibly muscular, standing over 6 feet tall. PERSONALITY: Abrasive and suspicious, Buccaneer is often one to strike first and ask questions later, fitting with the Briggs mindset of "Survival of the Fittest", and seems to enjoy violence and combat, often using vicious animal metaphors in his speech. He is loath to trust strangers and does not hold back in dealing out harsh treatment to people with whom he is unfamiliar. Despite this, Buccaneer is an incredibly brave and loyal soldier and shows his more jovial side to those whom he calls "comrade". He is an automail enthusiast, taking great care to announce the impressive qualities of his arms to anyone who will listen, and seems to have a taste for intimidating weaponry. He takes great pride in his automail and seems flattered when people admire it.
- #15Solf J. Kimbleeselective
Keys: Kimblee, Solf J. Kimblee, Crimson Lotus Alchemist, Crimson Alchemist, Major Kimblee, The Crimson Alchemist
Kimblee is a former State Alchemist and special agent working under the direct orders of Führer King Bradley. Admittedly sadistic, Kimblee was imprisoned in Central City for several years after his official involvement in the Ishval Civil War for having infamously turned his unique brand of combustion-based combat alchemy on people who were not on his government-approved kill list. Due to conspiratorial acts at the top of government, Kimblee is officially exonerated of his crimes so as to serve as the Führer's hidden left hand in the secret battles to come. AGE: 30s APPEARANCE: With beige colored skin and dark blue eyes, Kimblee's appearance is simultaneously gentlemanly and chilling. He wears his black hair in a ponytail, leaving two strands to frame his face. He has a fairly muscular frame and stands about 5'10". His go-to garb is a three piece white suit, sometimes including a matching fedora. PERSONALITY: Kimblee is as much a philosopher as he is a psychopath. A gentleman artist through and through, he considers his alchemically-induced explosions to be of the highest aesthetic and aims to make them as "beautiful" as possible in terms of scope, destructive capability and sound - sound apparently being the most important criterion based on his oft-showcased keen ear for explosives and his manic enthusiasm for loud eruptions. Not so much immoral as amoral, he stands as an inquisitive, apathetic observer most of the time, assessing people and situations while throwing out morality and the concept of grey areas as contaminating factors. Driven by such mindsets as "survival of the fittest" and "to the victor go the spoils", Kimblee takes great pleasure in determining whether the will and/or strength of one person or party is capable of overpowering those of another and genuinely respects people of strong will and unshakable conviction, but cares little to nothing for human lives that are affected or even lost as a consequence of the conflicts that arise. Even his own life is accountable to his unconventional ideals and he is only too glad to put his existence on the line. Cool and mannerly, Kimblee is an avid philosopher and skilled rhetorician who argues his viewpoints well enough to silence most naysayers. However, he seems aware that his mindset and actions are not in tune with the popular veins of thought and actively shrouds these with gentlemanly decorum and clever semantics. As an analyst of human nature, he understands exactly what needs to be said in order to hide his "heresy" from those who would not understand him. He is shown to be a very calculating and methodical man, able to seemingly perceive any and all matters at hand and use this information to better manipulate the situation, making him all the more dangerous. Kimblee also seems to offer a fair amount of respect to those who have opposing viewpoints, seeming more than happy to conduct intellectual debates and appearing to have a genuine interest in understanding those who disagree with him. ABILITIES: Kimblee's unique type of alchemy involves orchestrating explosions and is centered around the transmutation arrays tattooed on his palms. He creates an unstable imbalance of energy in whatever matter he touches, causing it to explode violently. He has also revealed himself to be capable of causing that instability to flow from one place to another at his will, essentially directing localized explosions from long range. He also has incredible memory and is considered a "super recognizer".
- #16Van Hohenheimselective
Keys: Mr. Ho, Slave Number 23, Alphonse's dad, Edward's dad, Alphonse's brother, Slave 23, Edward's father, Van Hohenheim, Hohenhein, Elric's dad, Sage of the West, Elric's father
Van Hohenheim is a deceptively ancient and extremely powerful Alchemist as well as the estranged father of Edward and Alphonse Elric. Despite disappearing suddenly during their infancy, Hohenheim returned during the course of the series in order to right the wrongs of his mysterious past. He is a living Philosopher's Stone. He was born into slavery and had no name other than "Slave 23". AGE: 451, appears to be in his 50s FAMILY: Trisha Elric (wife, deceased), Edward Elric and Alphonse Elric (sons)
- Father (Homunculus brother/clone), The Seven Homunculi (niece/nephews) APPEARANCE: Hohenheim is a fairly tall, broad-shouldered man, standing at 5'9". He wears his long, golden-blond hair in a loose, shoulder-length ponytail with two or three loose strands of hair falling over his brow and sports a full Donegal-style beard on his square jaw. He wears spectacles over his golden eyes, and has fair skin. Hohenheim frequently wears a white dress shirt and tie under a black vest with matching slacks and a brown overcoat. In his youth, Hohenheim looked much like his son Edward, save for slightly increased height and a slightly more pronounced jaw. PERSONALITY: In his youth, Van Hohenheim had a hair-trigger temper and became irrationally angry when taunted for his ignorance. He was a young man that admittedly did not have very much ambition, though remained a humble person and was thankful for the assistance of others, having full knowledge that there were things that he could not accomplish alone. Though Hohenheim's devotion to Alchemy and the mysterious circumstances surrounding his abandonment of his family gives the impression that he is cold, he is an unexpectedly softhearted, kindly individual who is quick to give compliments but loathes accepting them. Likely deliberately, he gives off a calm, unassuming, though somewhat mysterious disposition. Hohenheim appears to care little for his own well-being, much less his dignity, therefore often being put in situations that give him the impression of being goofy or eccentric. Due his status as a human Philosopher's Stone, Hohenheim considers himself to be a monster and was hesitant to reveal the truth about himself to even his own family. Despite being arguably the most skilled alchemist alive, Hohenheim is never one to show off or display his skills. He chooses to perform tasks manually where it would be easier to use alchemy instead, to either hide his abilities or simply because he believes in the virtue of manual labor. He is very slow to anger and apparently a bit of a pacifist, rather talking out disputes over fighting, frequently doing so even while he himself was under vicious attack. Chief among his traits appears to be his hopeless romanticism, given his propensity for spouting sappy lines about his love for Trisha Elric, his readiness to weep openly over her, and his charming treatment of women in general. He is content to take his time dealing with things that do not demand urgency. Although he did not always openly show it, Hohenheim possessed a deep love for his family. One of the only times he was shown truly angered was when his sons were mocked, and he admitted that he ultimately wished to grow old with his family. While his love for his sons is evident, he has difficulty speaking to them due being absent during much of their adolescence. ABILITIES: With nearly four centuries of life experience and alchemical study accumulated, Hohenheim's alchemical knowledge easily dwarfs that of any other human alchemist. With over half a million souls powering his Philosopher Stone, Hohenheim is not only capable of performing transmutations without the use of a Transmutation Circle, but can also transmute without moving his body at all and can even perform biological transmutations and circumvent the law of Equivalent Exchange with ease. As a Human Philosopher's Stone, his body is capable of the same level of miraculous regeneration as those of the Homunculi and as such, he has been rendered incapable of dying or even aging. Hohenheim's alchemy is extremely versatile, and he has been shown to perform mechanical, medical, and combat alchemy at the highest level. His level of medicinal alchemy is so great that he is capable of rearranging a patient's internal organs in seconds. His personal relationship with each of the 536,329 souls within him allows them to give their energy to him willingly and thus can be used more efficiently. His alchemy is significantly more powerful than even other Alchemist's who utilize a Philosopher's Stone, allowing him to trigger remote alchemy in multiple locations at once even without his own will to actively guide it, so long as he has deposited some of his souls there.

AGE: 26 (deceased) FAMILY: Van Hohenheim (husband), Edward and Alphonse Elric (sons) APPEARANCE: Trisha was a beautiful, green-eyed, fair-skinned young woman with chest-length chestnut-brown hair, tied into a low side ponytail on the right side. She was most often seen wearing a lavender dress with a white apron and was relatively thin. PERSONALITY: Trisha's main goals were to care for her sons and to wait for the return of her husband. She succumbed to an illness during an outbreak and fell fatally ill. She also seemed to be close friends with the Rockbell family.
- #18Winry Rockbellselective
Keys: Winry Rockbell, Winry
Winry Rockbell is a training surgeon and mechanical repair specialist/enthusiast and a close childhood friend of Edward Elric and Alphonse Elric. Hailing from Resembool, she supports Edward as his personal automail engineer and mechanic, making sure his prosthetic right arm and left leg are always in good working order. AGE: 16 FAMILY: Pinako Rockbell (grandmother), Yuriy Rockbell (father, deceased), Sarah Rockbell (mother, deceased), Den Rockbell (pet) APPEARANCE: Winry has pale skin, big dark-blue eyes and long light blonde hair that reaches her hips, with long bangs falling on the front and a fringe directed to the left. Usually, her hair is tied in a long ponytail, and she frequently wears a kerchief around her head. She can frequently be found in a khaki jumpsuit and black tube top, with multiple earrings in her ears. For casual wear, she wears tank tops and skirts, including in the winter time, though she adds layers with a scarf, jacket, and leggings. PERSONALITY: Winry is a cheerful, strong-willed, bubbly, hot-headed and empathetic girl who loves everything about automail and mechanics. She hates when Ed breaks her automail and often uses her wrench as a weapon, which always makes Ed and Al fear for her rage. Dedicated to her work and her friends, she works with almost excessive devotion on the various automail whose maintenance she undertakes for the sake of the people who depend on her, going so far as to take multiple consecutive overnight workshop sessions and travel long distances without hesitation in order to ensure their prompt and proper completion. While she has good intentions, Winry can be stubborn and straightforward, often calling others out for their weaknesses and delusions, but she also offers emotional support to her friends when they need it. She has a strong sense of morality and long respect for her parents, who unfairly died in the war doing the right thing. After losing her parents in childhood, Winry developed a strong attachment to her relatives and also got abandonment issues, always hating being left alone by the Elrics and fearing that she could lose them. She is very compassive, empathetic and sensitive, and often is seeing crying or getting openly emotional towards others, something that she does not have a problem with expressing. She also hates putting her friends in danger or awkward situations, getting mad or disappointed at herself. Due to her cheerful and bubbly attitude, Winry is admired by other people, seeing her as a charming and sweet person. She is also admired by her patients and they prefer when she is the one to attends them. In many occasions she is seen to be indifferent about the theme of love. ABILITIES: Winry is a very gifted and passionate mechanic, excelling in the repair of machines of widely varying complexity. Her truest passion and most extensive expertise is in the crafting and overhauling of automail prostheses. Brought up under the tutelage of her grandmother and master automail engineer Pinako Rockbell, Winry has been working with automail for most of her youth and can be considered somewhat of a machinist prodigy, having built Edward a complex pair of limbs at the tender age of eleven. Since that time, her skills have improved to the point that she has surpassed even her grandmother and gained a fair bit of notoriety in her position at Atelier Garfiel in Rush Valley. In addition, Winry appears to have a remarkable wealth of surgical knowledge for her age gleaned from having grown up in a family of surgeons.

Keys: Winry's grandmother, Winry's grandma, Pinako Rockbell, Pinako
Pinako Rockbell is a surgeon and weapon smith living and working in the town of Resembool. Mixing her two specialties, she is also a prominent automail engineer and presumably the founder of Rockbell Automail, a family-run automail atelier within the town. She os the neighbor and close family friend of the Elrics. Pinako acts as caretaker to Winry, Edward, and Alphonse, training Winry in automail engineering and serving as Ed and Al's home base whenever they return to Resembool. AGE: elderly APPEARANCE: A short and stout elderly woman, she has a grayish-brown ponytail that sticks up at an angle. She has small dark eyes and round spectacles. As a young woman, she was tall and very attractive with a curvaceous figure, long brown hair and brown eyes. ABILITIES: Pinako is a very skilled doctor, surgeon and automail engineer, known throughout Amestris as "The Leopardess of Resembool", as told by Dominic LeCoulte who has a past with her.
- #20Den Rockbellselective
Keys: Den Rockbell, Den, Winry's dog
Den is the Rockbell family pet. She lost her front left leg in a traffic accident while protecting Edward and his friends. As a result, she wears an automail limb in its place. Den is fiercely loyal and, as such, has been called "Resembool's best bodyguard" by Pinako. Den is also particularly compassionate as shown by the way she attempts to comfort Pinako after Winry leaves home. Unfortunately, Den is put largely on edge by Van Hohenheim's strange aura when he arrives at Pinako's house and nearly has to be restrained from attacking him.
- #21Yuriy Rockbellselective
Keys: Winry's father, Yuriy, Winry's dad, Yuriy Rockbell, Mr. Rockbell
Yuriy Rockbell grew up, lived and worked in Resembool as a surgeon alongside his wife, Sarah Rockbell. When the Ishval Civil War reached its peak, the two Doctors Rockbell left their family home in Resembool to help treat the wounded on the front lines. Though both Amestrian, the Rockbells were rather well known in the Kanda region of Ishval for treating the injured on either side of the conflict. Though many, including Doctors Marcoh and Knox, viewed them as a medical inspiration and several Ishvalan people owe their lives to the husband and wife medical team, the Amestrian military officials began to view their humanitarian effort as a nuisance and sought to have them killed. In the manga, Kimblee is unofficially ordered to kill them and stage their deaths as an accident so that the military would not be forced to waste resources ensuring their protection as humanitarians of their nation, but before the Crimson Alchemist could arrive on the scene, the Rockbells are killed by Scar, who had just awakened in their makeshift medical center and was driven into a violent rage upon learning that his brother was dead. Yuriy flung himself in front of Sarah in a vain attempt to protect her, but to no avail. He may have Drachman ancestry. Though both Amestrian, the Rockbells were rather well known in the Kanda region of Ishval for treating the injured on either side of the conflict. Yuriy flung himself in front of Sarah in a vain attempt to protect her, but to no avail.
Sarah was a rather tenacious woman, refusing to leave Ishval with the other Amestrian civilians when given the option by her husband. She gives the excuse that Winry and Pinako would never forgive her if she abandoned her calling and reminds Yuriy that Rockbell women are strong (though she is only a Rockbell by marriage). Gracia is a very kind woman who occasionally makes cakes and sweets for the Elric brothers and Winry Rockbell. AGE: 3 FAMILY: Maes Hughes (father), Elicia Hughes (mother) APPEARANCE: Elicia is a young girl with sandy blond hair that is tied in pigtails. She has fair skin and forest-green eyes. Elicia's cuteness manages to win over Winry, who begins to see the toddler as a little sister.
- #25Philip Gargantos Armstrongselective
Keys: Former General Armstrong, Armstrong's dad, Philip Armstrong, Philip Gargantos Armstrong, Armstrong's father, Armstrong Senior
Philip Gargantos Armstrong is the former patriarch of the illustrious Armstrong family. AGE: 60s FAMILY: Mrs. Armstrong (wife), Olivier Mira Armstrong (eldest daughter), Amue Armstrong (daughter), Strongine Armstrong (daughter), Alex Louis Armstrong (son), Cathrine Ella Armstrong (youngest daughter) APPEARANCE: He is a tall, fair-skinned man, though nowhere near as tall and or musclebound as his son Alex. He has blond hair that is slicked back, a full beard, mustache, and a curl of hair over his forehead. He also has blue eyes and long eyelashes like Alex. Like his son, he tends to have sparkles hovering in the air around him. PERSONALITY: Although a bit of a windbag, Philip Armstrong enjoys telling stories of his family's grandeur and his own eventful military career to anyone unfortunate enough to be his captive audience. It would seem that Philip is the one who passed on the habit of speaking about past generations of the Armstrong family down to Alex. Being a former General, Philip seems (for all his hot air) a rather insightful man, inferring immediately from Olivier's demands for the Armstrong estate that Amestris would not be a safe place to stay and taking his wife and daughter Cathrine off to Xing on an "extended vacation".
- #26Cathrine Elle Armstrongselective
Keys: Cathrine Elle Armstrong, Armstrong's little sister, Cathrine Armstrong
Cathrine is the youngest sibling in the Armstrong family. AGE: early 20s FAMILY: Philip Gargantos Armstrong (father), Mrs. Armstrong (mother), Olivier Mira Armstrong (eldest sister), Amue Armstrong (sister), Strongine Armstrong (sister), Alex Louis Armstrong (brother) APPEARANCE: Being a part of the Armstrong Family, Cathrine has many of their distinct traits, including being fair-skinned with blonde hair and a single strand sticking out in the middle of her forehead. She also has strikingly long eyelashes. Unlike the imposing and/or powerful looking members of her family, Cathrine is a dainty and beautiful young girl with a slender yet noticeably curvaceous and well-endowed frame. Her hair reaches waist-length with shoulder-length hair strands hanging on either side, and she has droopy sea-green eyes. PERSONALITY: While a meek and soft-spoken young girl, Cathrine's demeanor and delicate appearance belie an inherited strength that allows her to lift objects like pianos above her head with one hand. She is shy by nature, but she has stated that she prefers the company of men who are as muscular and strong as her elder brother Alex Louis Armstrong. This may be an effect of how the Armstrong family values muscular strength and military backgrounds.

Keys: Sig Curtis, Mr. Curtis, Sig, Izumi's husband
Sig Curtis is the burly, intimidating yet caring and doting husband of Izumi Curtis. Together with his wife, he runs a meat shop in Dublith. They housed Edward and Alphonse Elric during their alchemy apprenticeship, though he himself is not an alchemist. AGE: 35 FAMILY: Izumi Curtis (wife), stillborn son APPEARANCE: Sig is burly and muscular with tan skin. He has short brown hair and a full beard and mustache combo. He shows signs of aging with faint wrinkles on his face. PERSONALITY: Despite his perpetually angry-looking face, Sig is quite a nice person and laments the repellent nature of his visage. He is very devoted to and protective of Izumi, constantly worrying about her bad health and often needlessly rushing to her rescue when he senses danger and becoming jealous when Izumi speaks fondly of other men. He has mentioned that he blames himself for not realizing sooner that Izumi had been experimenting with Human Transmutation. Sig takes great pride in his significant musculature, pitting it against that of Alex Louis Armstrong. Seeing each other's "perfectly sculpted" bodies earned the others' respect. As a result, the two bonded in what is referred to as "a friendship forged from muscle". It is also shown that he may have had some amount of combat training, as he's easily able to catch a knife his wife casually threw at him between two fingers. Such interactions, Izumi's prominent combat ability and her declaration that her husband is a "finer man" hints that Sig's own level combat skill is at least a level his wife can respect and goes beyond just muscle.
- #28Izumi Curtisselective
Keys: Elric's teacher, Izumi Curtis, Izumi, Alphonse's teacher, Mrs. Curtis, Edward's teacher
Izumi Curtis is a master alchemist and skilled martial artist living in the southern Amestrian town of Dublith, where she runs a butcher shop with her husband Sig. Though she usually doesn't take on students, she accepted Edward and Alphonse Elric's plea to taking them on as her apprentices and instructed them in both alchemical theory and martial arts for six months. Eventually, Izumi grew to love them as deeply as she would her own children, becoming a long-term source of guidance and support for the Elrics' future endeavor. AGE: 35 FAMILY: Sig Curtis (husband), stillborn son APPEARANCE: Izumi is a grown woman, slender yet well-toned with a curvy figure. She is 5'7" and has fair skin, sharp dark eyes, and upper back-length black hair often worn in box braids tied in a ponytail. Above her left breast is a Flamel tattoo. She normally wears a long white-collared, button-up blouse that reveals her cleavage of flowing backside, form-fitting grey pants reaching her ankles, and open-toed sandals that have the letters "W.C." on them. PERSONALITY: Born under the maiden name Harnet, Izumi takes apparent pride in being a "simple, kind housewife" and calmly introduces herself as such to anyone who asks. Her humble exterior ironically belies a fearsome disposition though, with the Elric brothers becoming terrified at the thought of aggravating her, such as when someone calls her "old": She is prone to swift acts of violence and dealing out physical harm, often seen cracking her knuckles when she is angry or wants to intimidate. Though having a great deal of alchemical skill and faith in her power, Izumi frequently values the idea of working hard and only uses alchemy for things that cannot be done by hand, stressing to others that alchemists are humans and have their own ways. She also is very open-minded and quite curious, noticing differences but respecting them due to thinking all things/beings and their properties complement each other, which lead her to form the creed "One is All, All is One". Additionally, she appears to greatly enjoy traveling as she is often found journeying outside her hometown, a trait she may have passed on to Edward. Despite her considerable aggressive nature, Izumi is a remarkably warm, caring individual always willing to help those in need, especially children. Wise and perceptive, she is a great advocate of helping people to make their own way and will usually only intervene on behalf of those with the will—but not the means—to help themselves. ABILITIES: Though appearing as an unbeatable paragon of fearsome power and skill in Alchemy by many individuals, Izumi's most overwhelming acts are followed by a painful regurgitation of blood. This is linked to an internal injury from a failed Human Transmutation several years before, where she attempted to revive her stillborn infant, losing part of her organs in the process. As a result, she capable of performing alchemy without the aid of a Transmutation Circle. By merely touching her palms together, she creates an energy circulation with her arms and transmutes by using her own will as a substitute for the necessary runes. Izumi is extremely powerful in both terms of armed and hand-to-hand combat. She boasts shocking physical strength and proves herself capable of easily subduing multiple enemies in a flash, overpowering larger opponents such as mountain grizzly bears and even knocking the Homunculus Sloth back.
- #29General Grummanselective
Keys: Lieutenant General Grumman, General Grumman, Hawkeye's grandfather, Grumman
Grumman is the Commanding Officer of the East City headquarters. A very influential military officer, he is considered to be one of the most powerful men in Amestris, along with his fellow Generals from the Amestrian Military Top Brass. For reasons unknown in the early story, he was relegated to a position in the Eastern Area of Amestris for years, never assuming a leadership position in Central Command. He was Colonel Roy Mustang's commanding officer prior to the latter's transfer to Central. AGE: 60s FAMILY: Berthold Hawkeye (son-in-law, deceased), Riza Hawkeye (granddaughter) APPEARANCE: Grumman is an old, skinny man with pale skin, a distinguishable long mustache, and gray hair that sticks out as tufts on the sides of his head. He normally wears his military uniform, though he can disguise himself exceptionally well. He wears small, rounded spectacles with opaque lenses. PERSONALITY: Kind and with a wry abundant sense of humor, Grumman is one of Colonel Mustang's closest allies and acts as a mentor and friend to him. He is a jovial, kind, and easygoing mind on the outset which belies his vast intelligence and cunning. He tends to joke around often with his subordinates and allies, playfully teasing them and acting as a father or uncle-like figure. He is very perceptive and is described by Roy as the type of person who can't sit still when something is happening. Underneath his kind exterior lies a shrewd, serious, and ambitious individual that has earned him the position that he holds. An intelligent man, he is able to quickly realize the scale and gravity of dangerous situations. A man of strong morals, he is disgusted at the corruption of the government and unlike other generals of Central Command, he is unafraid of aging and death. Scoffing at the idea of immortality, he maintains the belief that it is not something that humans should try to accomplish. He prefers to work in the shadows and has his own desire for power. Like his protégé Roy Mustang, he too aimed to become Fuhrer, though both desire the position to better the country. Grumman is an overall hopeful realist. He is intrigued with the possibilities of coexistence of humans and Homunculi and the implications that it had for the future. He is mildly perverted, enjoying cross-dressing as a woman (albeit to disguise himself and meet with Roy) and on occasion would rub Rebecca's butt when she wasn't paying attention.
- #30Berthold Hawkeyeselective
Keys: Mr. Hawkeye, Master Hawkeye, Berthold Hawkeye
Berhold Hawkeye was both the alchemist who mentored Roy Mustang as well as the estranged father of Riza Hawkeye. AGE: 45 (deceased) FAMILY: Riza Hawkeye (daughter), Grumman (father-in-law) APPEARANCE: An aging man with long brown hair, tan skin, and small, light eyes. PERSONALITY: A brilliant alchemist, Master Hawkeye postulated the complex and intricate theorems necessary to apply flame alchemy at its most powerful and efficient level but refused to pass on his flame alchemy secrets to his pupil, Roy Mustang, thinking them too dangerous for a young and naive student. Riza described her father as a frightening man with whom she did not generally associate and could not at all relate. Afraid of his life's work being destroyed and what his flame alchemy knowledge could do if it fell into the wrong hands, Master Hawkeye refrained from keeping notes in the normal fashion and, instead, tattooed a large Transmutation Array containing the culmination of his craft and findings on his daughter's back, perhaps further straining - or serving as an indication of - the Hawkeyes' already shaky relationship. Master Hawkeye, as an independent alchemist, appears to have held some disdain for the State Military, as revealed by his flippant reaction to Roy's enlistment during the Ishval Civil War as well as his preference of living in squalor with all his genius over joining the State Alchemist Program. As Roy returned to his teacher's house in an attempt to get hold of the theory of flame alchemy to enlist as a State Alchemist, Master Hawkeye revealed to him his daughter possessed the theory and he succumbed to illness, coughing up blood as he died in Roy's arms, but not before apologizing to his daughter for not doing anything for her: showing that despite her claims of him being a frightening man and being immersed in his work, he truly did care for Riza.

He was found on the street by Master Sergeant Kain Fuery who - due to the fact that his dorm would not allow him to keep a pet in house - tried to find the little dog a good home among his comrades, but to no avail: Vato Falman also lived in a dormitory, Heymans Breda's intense fear of dogs prevented him from even coming close to Fuery while he had it with him, Jean Havoc made a joke about dogs being a delicacy in Xing and was deemed unfit for pet ownership, Edward Elric explained that he and his brother were unable to care for a puppy because of their constant traveling, and Roy Mustang spoke as if he would mistreat the dog and also deemed unfit for ownership. After it became clear that the dog would have to go back out into the rain, Hawkeye offered to take the dog, which she names "Black Hayate", to the dismay of her comrades. Though, immediately after Fuery hands the dog over to her, it urinates all over the floor in the Eastern Headquarters, prompting Hawkeye to implement her own brand of tough love: housebreaking by gunfire. Riza cares deeply for Black Hayate, having a picture of him on her desk.
- #32Shou Tuckerselective
Keys: Mr. Tucker, Sewing-Life Alchemist, Shou Tucker, Nina's dad, Nina's father
Shou Tucker was an alchemist who gained fame and notoriety by producing a chimera capable of human speech, earning him his State Alchemist's License. AGE: early 50s FAMILY: Mrs. Tucker (wife, deceased), Nina Tucker (daughter, deceased), Alex (pet, deceased) APPEARANCE: Shou is a bespectacled middle-aged man, having little in the ways of muscle or height and his receding hairline leaving him only with a small amount of brown hair, and a slight beard stubble. When around others he maintains a mildly content expression, however in private he is often more downcast and anxious. PERSONALITY: Shou initially comes off as a soft-spoken but asocial man, often preferring to keep to himself rather than spend time with others. When having guests, he put on a polite persona and appeared to be quite gentle, friendly, and kind. However, as his daughter Nina had begun to notice, he was more often engrossed with his work than his family. In reality, Shou suffered from a lack of confidence due to his research not producing any viable results and was a very desperate, delusional, selfish, and manipulative man devoid of any sort of conscience. In order to keep his qualification as a State Alchemist, he was willing to sacrifice his wife and later his own daughter in order to maintain it from fear of returning to a life of poverty and regret. After his atrocities were unveiled, he showed a notable lack of remorse for his actions and instead claimed it was merely the advancement of science, focused solely on remaining a State Alchemist. Shou had no genuine empathy for others' feelings and was unable to understand any perspective different from his own. While he intellectually understood that others would be enraged if they found out the truth behind his experiments—hence his lying to Nina and the Elric brothers that his wife abandoned them—he didn't understand why, and believed that any other alchemist would have done the same thing he did if they were in his financial situation. As a result, Ed's violent reaction to finding out that Shou had turned his own wife and daughter into chimeras took him by surprise.
- #33Nina Tuckerselective
Keys: Nina Tucker, Nina
Nina Tucker was the young daughter of Shou Tucker, the "Sewing-Life Alchemist". AGE: 4 (deceased) FAMILY: Shou Tucker (father, deceased), Mrs. Tucker (mother, deceased), Alexander (pet, deceased) APPEARANCE: Nina Tucker is a young girl with long blonde hair pulled back into braids which hang past her waist. She has fair skin, and dark blue eyes. After being alchemically fused with the family dog, Alexander, by her father, Shou Tucker, Nina inhabits the body of a dog-like beast. This creature has a mane the same color as Nina's original hair. It has the ability to speak, as did the chimera Tucker created from his wife. From what is known, most likely Alexander was a breed of dog known as a Great Pyrenees. After the Chimera is fused Alexander loses his white fluffy appearance for a peach fur with a carpet of hair growing out of its back. It is also noted that Nina seems to be a bit unsure of her memories and her own fate after the transfusion. PERSONALITY: Nina was generally a seemingly happy, playful and excitable little girl and was usually seen playing with or embracing her large pet dog, Alexander. She also loved her father very much and never stopped believing in him.
Alexander and Nina grow very close to the Elric brothers, but their friendship was not able to last as Shou Tucker needed to present an astounding alchemic breakthrough to the military to make up for his past failures and avoid having his license revoked. Desperate, Tucker resorts to transmuting Alexander and Nina together to create a talking (yet imperfect) Chimera. When the Elric brothers discover this, Edward beats Shou to near death for having done such a cruel thing. With no idea on how to restore Nina and Alexander, the brothers leave the rest in the hands of the military, but the State Alchemist killer Scar soon arrives and kills Nina's father, and, noticing the pain the Nina/Alexander chimera is in, kills it in an act of mercy.
- #34Alexander Tuckerselective
Keys: Alexander Tucker, Alexander
Alexander was the family pet of the Tucker Family and Nina's closest best friend. Nina tended not to keep Alexander tied up for which her father scolded her. Alexander greeted the Elrics by jumping on Edward, which he continued to do until Ed raged at him and thereafter, tended to call him a "mangy mutt". APPEARANCE: His breed appears to be a Great Pyrenees and his fur is mostly white but Nina notably depicted him with brown patches on his head and ears whenever she drew pictures of him with herself and her father. PERSONALITY: Despite his large size and loud bark, Alexander was generally very friendly and playful and was seldom seen without Nina, such as the bond they shared and the fact that they often only had each other for company as Nina's father became increasingly preoccupied with his alchemy research.
- #35Fatherselective
Keys: Philosopher of the East, Dwarf in the Flask, Father, The Dwarf in the Flask: Homunculus
Father is the main antagonist of the series. He is the oldest homunculus and the progenitor of the homunculi, having created them directly or indirectly. Arrogant and self-righteous, he considered only power, dominion over the world, "perfect goodness and being", and "divine order" to be worthy of his attention. His ultimate goal was to become absolutely superior to the human race.
AGE: 431 FAMILY: Van Hohenheim (clone/brother), Lust, Envy, Sloth, Greed, Pride, Wrath, Gluttony (children) APPEARANCE: Original Form: Father's first form is a small, round mass of black gas with a single eye, a wide toothy mouth, and tendril-like arms, making him resemble the Eye of Truth from inside the Gate. This may be because Father was created from that entity’s essence. As the "Dwarf in the Flask", he was unable to perform alchemy himself, but his immense knowledge of it and general understanding of the world allowed him to instruct and guide the people of Xerxes. In this form he was very vulnerable and stated that he would die if he left the flask. "Container": Due to his imitation of Hohenheim’s body in Xerxes, Father’s second form is a vessel that looks nearly identical to Hohenheim, differing only in hair and skin color, hairstyle, clothing, a few additional wrinkles, and the absence of glasses. This form us nothing more than a human-like husk that Father uses to conceal his true appearance. He is usually in the chamber beneath Central, where he and the other homunculi reside, seated upon a Philosopher’s Stone or cement throne connected to numerous pipes. The throne itself is physically linked to him, with several pipes protruding from his spine that can be detached. He uses these pipes to channel the Philosopher’s Stone throughout the nation of Amestris. This system serves as a barrier between the tectonic energy of the earth’s crust, the source of Amestrian alchemy, allowing Father to halt the use of alchemy at will. However, maintaining this system has caused his body to age slightly more than Hohenheim’s. PERSONALITY: Father's original personality, when he was known as the Dwarf in the Flask, was far more human-like and even charming compared to his later self. He was polite, charismatic, and at times sarcastic, traits that Van Hohenheim described as being "full of human emotions." In contrast, his later self, as noted by Hohenheim, became much more stoic, composed, and almost lifeless, often appearing bored. This change was attributed to his decision to purge himself of the seven vices. However, this "purging" appears to have been incomplete, as Father continued to act in ways that reflected those very sins. Father is highly intelligent, manipulative, narcissistic, callous, merciless, pitiless, egotistical, megalomaniacal, and deeply selfish. He views everyone around him as mere tools to be used in the service of his ambitions. The only possible exceptions to this are his seven homunculus "children." One of the reasons Father created them was because he desired a family of his own, which explains his title of "Our Father". This notion annoyed him, though he did not deny it. Despite having once desired such a bond, by the time he purged himself of all his "sins" to create his "children", he no longer possessed any emotional attachment to them. Father’s thirst for power seems to be the only thing more important to him than himself. Although he refers to the homunculi as his children, he never expresses grief over any of their deaths. Unlike Lust or Envy, Father has stated that he feels no hatred or contempt toward humans. He confesses to Edward that he sees humans merely as stepping stones for his own advancement, which explains his indifference and apathy toward them. When Hohenheim asked why he created his "children" as he did, Father revealed that the seven homunculi were brought into existence solely to make him a perfect being. Since he could not be like or part of the human race, and since he felt constrained by the suffocating social isolation he endured, Father resolved to become superior to the creatures from which he originated. Determined to escape the flask that kept him from physical contact with others, he eventually broke free and rejected all the "burdensome" emotions he had once desired, viewing them as inferior. Instead, he sought what he believed to be infinitely greater: the power to overturn the physical laws that governed existence. Yet despite believing he was improving himself, this transformation only stripped away Father's individuality, leaving him a hollow echo of his former self, trapped on a path of his own making, without the will or desire to turn back.
- #36Wrath/Fuhrer Bradleyselective
Keys: Führer Bradley, Leader of Amestris, Führer, Fuhrer Bradley, King Bradley, Bradley, Wrath
Bradley is the leader of Amestris and is seen to have almost inhuman swordsmanship. As Führer, King Bradley is the respected Commander-in-Chief of the State Military, even though his political standpoints are often questioned in certain instances such as the Ishval Civil War, which was only one of many insurrections focused on creating a massive Philosopher's Stone for Father. AGE: 60 FAMILY: Mrs. Bradley (wife), Selim Bradley (adoptive son, AKA Pride) APPEARANCE: Bradley appears as an older man with an incredible physique for someone his age. He has a full head of black hair, which is cropped on the sides and slicked back. He wears a thick black mustache that is reminiscent of a toothbrush mustache. His right eye appears to be blue, and an ouroboros mark sits in place of his left pupil, which is normally covered by an eye patch. He is usually in a blue, full length military issue coat and slacks with black dress shoes. His uniform has a grey sash around it which he uses to carry his swords. Bradley is almost always seen with at least one sword on him, but has also been known to carry up to five and can wield all of them simultaneously. PERSONALITY: Several differences are apparent in Bradley when compared to the other Homunculi, such as the ability to sympathize with humans and even show compassion despite his identity as Wrath. He is perhaps the most misleading of the homunculi, appearing generally calm and surprisingly pleasant, even displaying a sense of humor most other homunculi seem to lack. He uses such traits to win the trust of those around him, and to avoid suspicion of his true nature. As pleasant as he may seem, Bradley embodies the true image of wrath when enraged. In battle, Bradley shows relentless determination and brutality, never hesitating to deal the finishing blow and fighting with a silent but deadly aura, a reflection of the inner fury that drives him and embodies his status as Wrath. While generally a silent and ruthless force in combat, he does seem to display a slightly more light-hearted personality when confronting opponent's whose skills he respects, commenting on his enemies and his old age. As a King who was handed his position in life and was rarely to make the true decisions regarding his country, Bradley firmly disagrees with the concept of a "true king", that of a monarch that serves its people and to better their country. From his perspective, kings are only figureheads that are instated and have no true power. Despite this belief, he does not necessarily seem unhappy with his position in this way, accepting his role as a fake ruler and enjoying the act he puts on for his life. Since his entire life was planned out for him and he rarely if ever got to make his own choices, Bradley takes great pride in his wife since she was the woman he chose to marry. He is more lenient towards humans than his siblings, due to spending the most time among them and once being a human himself. He secretly enjoys chaos and complications in plans, seeing as his entire life has been methodically controlled and planned. However, he still does express some annoyance towards humans, sometimes referring to their constant meddling as bothersome. ABILITIES: Bradley was originally a human whose body was infused with a Philosopher's Stone that was made from wrathful souls. These souls fought and eventually dwindled to a single soul, which was the most wrathful of all. After his transformation into Wrath, Bradley possesses enhanced strength, speed, reflexes, stamina, durability, senses, agility, coordination and willpower superior to any human. He has on multiple occasions outpaced gunfire and moved faster than the eye can see. His abilities made him perhaps the most deadly of the Homunculi at close-range combat, even without his Ultimate Eye he proved more than a match for most opponents and only resorted to using it when truly pushed. Wrath's unique abilities centered around his left eye. With it he gained incredibly enhanced eyesight and extra-sensory vision of his general surroundings, able to percieve and process information at instantaneous speeds. Coupled with his incredible physical abilities, Wrath could adapt perfectly to all factors achieving maximum efficiency in offensive and defensive strategy, ensuring optimal results as long as there is the slightest chance and depending on the means at his disposal. A simple glance will detect his opponent's or obstacle's nature, strengths, weaknesses, etc. making Wrath a perfect military field strategist. His visual prowess was so absolute that it was akin to precognition, able to react perfectly to any situation. A formidable combatant, Wrath strongly favors using swords, which he wields with deadly proficiency thanks to his unique gifts and lifetime of training, to the point where he can wield five blades simultaneously.
- #37Envyselective
Keys: Envy
Envy is the physical embodiment of some of Father's envy. He exists only to make humans suffer, bears more bitter resentment for humans than any other homunculus, and negatively treats with humans in the most personal and heartfelt manner. His hatred for humans has an immense emotional and personal foundation greater than any of his siblings'. He can easily be set off by insults due to his large and delicate ego, thus causing him to make mistakes. AGE: FAMILY: Father (creator), Lust, Gluttony, Wrath, Pride, Sloth, Greed (siblings) APPEARANCE: Envy has the ability to shapeshift. This ability can be used to assume the form of any existing person (or original persona). He can even modify his own voice to directly copy others. Being a homunculus, Envy technically has no sex. Although he is capable of taking the form of both male and female people, he is usually referred to as male. "Humanized" form: Envy usually appears as a pale-skinned androgynous teenage young man with a lean, muscular build. Envy has long, wispy black hair, violet eyes with slit-like pupils, and wears a black crop top, skort, elbow length fingerless gloves, stocking-like footwear that exposes the heels and toes, along with a matching headband with an alchemical, triangular symbol on it. "Unleashed" form: Envy can assume a much larger chimeric shape with a serpentine body, multiple pairs of legs, long human-like hair, a dog-like head, and six pupils in its left eye. There are human faces and limbs protruding all over its body, like drowning people momentarily attempting to surface before being pulled down by others. These are physical representations of the dozens of souls of Xerxians that Father absorbed and used to create the Philosopher's Stone that is Envy's core. "True" form: After most of the Philosopher's Stone that is his core is destroyed, Envy is a small, caterpillar-like serpent with multiple legs and a jaw-less, sucker-like mouth resembling those of lampreys. He is virtually helpless save for attaching to another living thing to take control, but once able to reach a Philosopher's Stone, Envy can regain his full ability. PERSONALITY: Envy is one of the cruelest homunculus, joking around and delighting in human misery. He will kill without hesitation, usually playing on his target's emotions to have a psychological advantage, with no remorse for what he has done. He takes pride in the suffering he inflicts, and his only personal goal is to make humans fight each other and suffer. Beneath this cruel and aggressive exterior, Envy is secretly jealous of humans' inner strength and the mutually beneficial friendships that they share, as Homunculi show little real concern or emotional support for one another. This jealousy motivates him to hate and mistreat humans very personally. He seems to resent being confronted about his inner envy, but hides his inner motives well. Despite his callous, ruthless, and sinister persona, Envy occasionally shows a more silly, rambunctious, and even comical personality around his fellow homunculi, and even some humans. He also demonstrates a vanity streak over his appearance, refers to his preferred form as young and cute and enjoys looking attractive. He greatly dislike his true appearance. ABILITIES: Like all Homunculi, Envy possesses immortality, regeneration, and an enhanced physique and physical capabilities. He can also shapeshift, into anything or anyone, including imitating their personalities nearly spot on. He can transform into anything that doesn't exceed the size and weight of his "unleashed" form. Under said monstrous form, Envy can use his strength to its maximum and become all the more dangerous, also manipulating the human remains that cover his body. In his "true" form, Envy's only remaining ability is to take control of the body of a human or homunculus host. The host then becomes an extension of his parasitic body, being able to take control of additional host bodies, using the host's soul or Philosopher's Stone to resupply his strength. He can only activate this ability by biting his victims while in his weakened form.
- #38Lustselective
Keys: Solaris, Lust, The Ultimate Spear
Lust is the embodiment of Father's lust. She is usually partnered with Gluttony, to whom she appears to have a particular (almost motherly) closeness, or with Envy. AGE: ~400 years FAMILY: Father (creator), Envy, Gluttony, Sloth, Pride, Wrath, Greed (siblings) APPEARANCE: Lust is a fairly tall, pale-skinned woman with wavy black hair that falls down to her lower back. Her eyes are mauve. Her build is slender yet voluptuous, with a thin waist and large breasts. Her Ouroboros mark is located on her sternum. Her fingernails can extend to become sharp and claw-like; She uses this as her primary weapon. She is usually seen wearing a form-fitting, strapless black dress with a low-cut bodice, which is technically part of her body. Lust is also seen in her "Solaris" persona, a disguise she uses to blend in to human society for nefarious purposes. As "Solaris", she wears a dark purple dress, more modest than her usual outfit, similar to a cheongsam. PERSONALITY: Lust is the embodiment of bloodlust more so than the commonly accepted definition of lust involving sexual desire. Notably more sadistic than her siblings, she displays distinct pleasure in torturing her opponents and making them suffer. She is rather intelligent, heading plots with the other homunculi in Father's absence. She is rather patient as well, rarely exploding in frustration. She is well aware of her charm and uses it often to manipulate people to her advantage. She is calm, calculating, and shows disregard for human life. She is seemingly the most personable of the Homunculi, holding positive relationships with those she was seen interacting with, particularly Envy and Gluttony. Lust finds humans to be frail, predictable, and generally foolish. Moreover, she often comments on the ridiculousness of human nature. She feels no remorse over manipulating or killing. ABILITIES: Like all Homunculi, Lust possesses immortality, regeneration, and an enhanced physique and physical capabilities. Her "Ultimate Spear" ability allows her to extend her fingertips into long, flexible, and thin claws sharp enough to cut through practically any substance with ease. The length of these blades is also undetermined and seemingly infinite in their range, leading to Lust being able to kill her opponents at any distance with ease. Also adding to their lethality is the speed at which she can extend and retract them. Using her enticing looks, she plays the role of a manipulator within the Homunculi ranks, moving covertly around the country to lure weak-willed people into the clutches of their own lust, to be used and disposed of when no longer needed.
- #39Gluttonyselective
Keys: Gluttony
Gluttony is the embodiment of some of Father's gluttony. Often, he will be found eating a random person or creature's remains unless ordered to eat someone that poses a threat, or to remove evidence of the Homunculi's presence. He is typically in the company of Lust. AGE: 200+ FAMILY: Father (creator), Lust, Envy, Wrath, Sloth, Pride, Greed (siblings) APPEARANCE: True to his name, Gluttony is large and has accumulated a lot of lumpy fat. He is bald and had tanned skin, with a large nose and tiny ears. He is fast and agile despite his size. He wears a sleeveless black jumpsuit and stands at about 4'9". PERSONALITY: Under normal circumstances, Gluttony is quite docile. However, he is easily prone to bouts of frenzy in which he uncontrollably tries to eat whatever crosses his path, usually someone he has been given permission to eat. He frequently ask Lust (or any other Homunculus that he is partnered with) if he can eat their opponents beforehand. He even asks this question to the people he is fighting at that moment. He particularly likes eating people and has mentioned that he prefers eating girls as he finds them soft and tasty. Despite his hunger-fueled moments of frenzy, Gluttony is very childlike and is surprisingly kindly, demonstrating a great love for his siblings. He does not appear to share any of his siblings' disdain for humans, and appears to be unaware that the people he eats die permanently. Because of his childishness, lack of self-control and apparent innocence, Gluttony's intelligence is thus limited in regards to usefulness for his siblings and thus has to be 'babysat' by his more aware siblings. In the few times that he has been alone he has been shown to be indecisive and directionless, unable to make decisions for himself. He seems to have a good memory and will hold a grudge against those who've wronged him, able to recognize anyone by their unique scent. ABILITIES: Like all Homunculi, Gluttony possesses immortality, regeneration, and enhanced physical capabilities. His most notable feature is his voracious appetite; His power to eat hard objects, like steel, stems from his ability to produce a variety of digestive enzymes that act on specific substances, making them easier to chew and digest. His sense of taste allows him to instantly analyze the compositions of various foodstuffs and even detect substances. His sense of smell is so strong that he can detect specific persons, objects, substances and track targets with nothing but his nose. Though he does not need to eat to survive, he seems to do so simply because he enjoys doing it. Gluttony was the result of a failed experiment by Father to create a new Gate of Truth through which he could access the whole of alchemical knowledge. As such, the eye that appears in the expanse of Gluttony's stomach (also enlarging his mouth) when he morphs to his true form is nearly identical to that behind the true Gate, but the space within him is pitch black and everything that has amassed from his eating habits just piles up inside. Due to this, Gluttony's Gate is in a space that lies between reality and the Gate and is full of all the objects he has eaten within a massive sea of his victims' blood. Gluttony's rib cage is capable of extending outwards large distances at high speeds. It is capable of extending quickly and forcefully enough to propel him high into the air despite his large weight. His rib cage-like extensions are primarily used to grab things at almost instantaneous speeds that forces consumed objects inside his stomach, almost akin to a beam-like projectile. While this method of "eating" is so fast that it appears instant, it does seem like he has some knowledge over what he is eating, as he is immediately able to recognize if the thing he is eating is human or not.
- #40Greedselective
Keys: The Ultimate Shield, Greed
The information below refers to Greed BEFORE he fuses with Ling Yao. Greed is the embodiment of some of Father's greed. As his name implies, he is a very avaricious character, who likes living in luxury, surrounded by powerful minions and beautiful women. Despite his generally greedy nature, he is shown to care for his subordinates. AGE: 200+ FAMILY: Father (creator), Lust, Envy, Sloth, Gluttony, Wrath, Pride (siblings), Ling (temporary host) APPEARANCE: In his original body, Greed is a tanned, tall and muscular young adult with short, spiky, black hair that is kept slicked back. He also has a subtle widow's peak. Among his most noticeable features are purple eyes with thin, cat-like pupils, sometimes covered with rounded black sunglasses, and his razor-sharp teeth. He often smiles with a huge grin. Greed dresses in leather, sporting a short, black jacket with a fur collar, black leather pants, and shoes with upward tips. His Ouroboros tattoo is on the back of his left hand. In his "Ultimate Shield" form, Greed has dark blue skin, razor-sharp finger nails, and a pronounced spinal column, while his ears and hair disappear beneath his blue skin. The sclera of both eyes become red, while his irises turn white. In this form, Greed's sharp teeth become more pronounced, with two lower fangs rising just above his upper lip. His overall facial features are a reflection of his inner self, which takes the form of a red devil's head with skull-like features, notably: fangs and slit eyes. PERSONALITY: Greed, as his name implies, is filled with and motivated by his avaricious nature. He is the only homunculus to defy and openly taunt Father. He has an easygoing, charismatic, arrogant personality and tends to do what he wants. He is also somewhat narcissistic, claiming part of the reason he doesn't use his ultimate shield to his fullest extent is because it masks his attractive face. He claims to not hurt women and (to an extent) children. In addition, he states he never lies. While he normally possesses a calm, confident nature, when angered he can be rather impulsive and ready to go into a fight with those he feels have wronged him. However, he shows some capacity for adapting to his fights and is willing to protect his allies (and later innocent civilians). He is very charismatic and has shown good leadership skills, especially with his Chimera friends, which he attributes to how he earns and deserve their loyalty in the first place. In addition, while he seems to see humans as weak and powerless, he never had sociopath tendencies or even hatred towards humans the way the other Homunculi did. He even grows to respect their power and tenacity. Deep down Greed wants nothing more than true friends who cared for him and for whom he cared for, though given his personality he often cloaks this by calling his friends and henchmen "possessions". ABILITIES: Like all Homunculi, Greed possesses immortality, regeneration, and an enhanced physique and physical capabilities. Provided his internal Philosopher's Stone had enough energy, Greed would not age beyond his youthful prime and could heal from any injury no matter how severe. Combined with his Ultimate Shield, this made him almost completely immune to harm. However, his defensive abilities led him to be extremely reliant on his Ultimate Shield and regenerative abilities in combat situations and was only an average fighter as a result. Greed can convert his skin into hard but still prehensile graphene, leaving everything else underneath malleable so as not to compromise his overall movement. He usually uses this ability to partially strengthen the density of selected parts of his body during battle, but can extend the effect to its entirety. His finger nails become razor sharp while under this form, capable of slicing through rock and metal alike with little effort. He prefers to use his Ultimate Shield to form claws covering up to his shoulders. Because Greed has control over the configuration of his body's carbon atoms, the substances that he can convert his skin into can vary based on his intentions. He can choose to convert his body into the indestructible substance, or he can turn his skin into weak graphite. While in its Ultimate Shield form, Greed's body is completely indestructible and possesses absolutely no internal or external weakness, immune to any and all kinds of damage. His indestructible body does not hinder his speed or mobility. His shield still has physical properties however, and is thus susceptible to alchemy. The information above refers to Greed BEFORE he fuses with Ling Yao.
- #41Slothselective
Keys: Sloth, The Fastest Homunculus
Sloth is the embodiment of some of Father's sloth. AGE: 200+ FAMILY: Father (creator), Envy, Lust, Pride, Wrath, Greed, Gluttony (siblings) APPEARANCE: Sloth is the largest Homunculus (with the exception of Envy's true form), having the appearance of a large, fair-skinned, hulkingly muscular man. He wears black pants and shoes and sports black straps across his chest. He has long and stringy black hair that runs down his head, sharp teeth and a single blank white eye with a scribbly outline. His red node that he shares with most of siblings is on the right side of his body, and goes from where his right eye should be, down to the right palm of his hand. He is also commonly seen with chains around his wrists. Sloth is almost always frowning while baring his sharp teeth. PERSONALITY: Sloth is arguably the simplest and most straight-forward out of all the Homunculi. He fully embodies his aspect of sloth and laziness, having only a desire for sleep and general immobility. Even in dangerous combat situations when his life was threatened, he is very reluctant to fight simply because it is too much work, even remarking that the act of living is also a pain. Despite this, he always follows orders from the other Homunculi and Father, showing that his indolence does not hinder him from fulfilling his duty. This did not stop him from voicing his opinions, as he's shown to constantly complain about how much work he has to do. Slow and simple-minded, Sloth does not have much preference for strategy or complex thought. He shows few emotions other than being discontent, though can appear be frustrated and angered when others prevent him from doing his tasks (and thus sleeping). These rare occasions are the few times he uses his full strength and becomes dedicated to fulfilling his task, even showing something like determination. He is unique amongst the Homunculi (aside from Gluttony) in that he does not seem to view humans as inferior, or has at least never vocalized it. Neither did he seem to have much pride in his status as a Homunculus, though it can be argued that he doesn't really have an opinion or thought on anything other than his orders. ABILITIES: Like all Homunculi, Sloth possesses immortality, regeneration, and an enhanced physique and physical capabilities. While Sloth does not posess any "special abilities" like his siblings, his physical traits are likely the greatest of all of them. Befitting his size, he is extraordinarily strong, more than capable of crushing and tearing through solid rock and steel with his bare hands and can easily crush a human body with "accidental" ease. Sloth's hide is also extremely tough, being capable of resisting bullets, however it has weak points: the top of his head and the inside of his body. Nothing short of tank or artillery fire can pierce it from a distance. His most dangerous trait is his incredible speed. Despite his massive size, he can move so fast that he is imperceptible without any buildup or warning, making his attacks instant and nearly unavoidable. His speed is so formidable that he appears to have no means of controlling his momentum, deliberately changing his direction or even decelerating, and is thus incapable of stopping himself without crashing into something. He claims to be the fastest Homunculus, which is fitting, as the sin of Sloth signifies a wasting of one's potential. Sloth is hampered by a variety of mental weaknesses. He is slow-witted and very clumsy, leading him to have very poor aim despite his extreme speed. His sluggish fighting-style limits his potential, resulting in opponents getting the better of him simply by outpacing him. True to his name, he has the skills and ability to be an overwhelmingly dangerous threat, he simply lacks the will and motivation to be one. His regenerative abilities are also much slower than his siblings', for reasons unknown.
- #42Pride/Selim Bradleyselective
Keys: Bradley's son, Pride, Selim Bradley, Selim
Selim Bradley, whose true identity is the Homunculus Pride, was the first Homunculus that Father created, embodying the cruelest, most prejudicial, yet most basic aspect of evil. He is the pinnacle of the Homunculi's self-centric beliefs and contempt of humans. He is the second-in-command of the Homunculi, and can also possess the greatest overall physical strength among them. As Selim, he is the adoptive son of King Bradley. AGE: 400+, but appears 10 FAMILY: Father (creator), King Bradley/Wrath (adoptive father/actually sibling), Mrs. Bradley (adoptive mother), Lust, Gluttony, Envy, Sloth, Greed (siblings) APPEARANCE: As Selim, Pride takes the appearance of a young boy, with short black hair, fair-skin, and dark eyes. He has a unique form that is unlike his siblings': His black multi-eyed shadow is his actual form, with the childlike body being a simple "container" for him to move around in. His human shape appears to be hollow, with its contents consisting only of his shadowy true form and his Philosopher's Stone. Sometimes, in his child disguise acting as Pride, his eyes will become more serious, darker around the edges, with purple irises. PERSONALITY: While under the guise of Selim Bradley, Pride acts as if he has the mannerisms of a usual young boy, displaying a proneness to hero worship. He displays great admiration and respect for his "father", King Bradley. Much of his positive traits vanish when he reverts to his Pride persona, similar to Father's. He tries to act superior to humans by pretending they are insects to him, filling himself with false dignity and futile boastfulness. However, whereas Father treats humans with a bored or apathetic attitude, Pride treats humans like playthings/slaves. He is very biased, always coming up with excuses to justify his cruel deeds for the sake of not hearing insults or accusations against him or his image. Pride is so selfish and self-absorbed that he tends to show up at the wrong time and isn't there when the other homunculi need him. He cares so little about the others that the deaths of his siblings will have no effect whatsoever on his heart. Even Envy, a homunculus filled with huge sadism, dislikes and is angered by Pride's hubris, calling him a "bastard". The only homunculus with whom Pride has a tolerable and slightly positive relationship with is Wrath, likely due to their fake father-son relationship. Although he is the eldest of the homunculi, in many ways he is less mature than his brethren. He is the most loyal of all the Homunculi but also the least independent, never questioning his orders or the actions made by Father. Pride has a profound fear of death, a trait that many of the other Homunculi appeared to lack. Despite all of these negative traits, it is implied that Pride, like Wrath, enjoyed the false family life he had with Mrs. Bradley; because she risked her life to protect him, Pride became fond of her and was happy to know what it was like to have a mother. ABILITIES: Like all Homunculi, Sloth possesses immortality, regeneration, and an enhanced physique and physical capabilities. His "container" is resistant to physical damage, and he does not bleed when injured. Easily amongst the most dangerous of all Homunculi in open-combat, Pride's shadows could be freely manipulated, able to slice or devour anything that came in contact with them. Seemingly invulnerable to conventional harm and being very powerful, they showed to have almost zero resistance to most objects, effortlessly slicing through all materials except the very hardest ones. What made his powers truly dangerous were the speed and size of his form. Given the right conditions the shadows he produced were monstrous in size and he could attack with his shadows at incredible speed. Though he is extremely deadly in combat, one of Pride's most prominent skills is surveillance. He can spread his essence throughout shadows and sense everything around that, allowing him to "watch" anything through them. As a result, he is able to effectively monitor all of Central and the entire Nationwide Transmutation Circle alone, claiming that he is always "in the shadows." He has the ability to speak through his many mouths and see with his eyes, enabling communication far away from his primary container. Despite all of his incredible powers and advantages, he was not without weakness; His primary being the fact that he can only exist within a given area. He can not leave Central and the confines of the Nationwide Transmutation Circle. His shadows cannot appear in complete darkness nor could they withstand intense light. One of his most fearsome traits is the ability to consume living things and assimilate the abilities and strengths of that particular victim.

Keys: Truth, The Truth
The Truth is an enigmatic, metaphysical being who appears when a person attempts Human Transmutation. Seeing Human Transmutation as an unfair exchange under the equivalent exchange laws of Alchemy, Truth draws the Alchemist into the Gate and forcibly takes their most valued attribute, or something symbolic of their relationship with the person they are attempting to create or resurrect. Truth will permit otherwise impossible exchanges when a Philosopher's Stone is used, as the Stone, or a part of it, serves as the payment for the exchange instead. As a negative version or "conscience" of the alchemist who performs Human Transmutation, Truth is perceived by the finite human mind as punishing them for "Playing God" by abusing the power of Alchemy. Truth embodies the universe, serving as both a deity and monad for it, and also represents the collective consciousness and conscience of living things. Truth is everything within the universe, including all people, and is therefore the closest thing to the concept of God to appear in the series. Because Truth is the very person it judges, every punishment ultimately reflects what that individual believes to be a fitting consequence for their own transgression.
Truth is depicted as a white, featureless version of whoever passes through the Gate, symbolizing that the only one casting judgement is oneself. Truth's voice sounds feminine and often ends with a sharp accent. It can be seen being in possession of items that it took from the Alchemist when they open the Gate. Because Truth reflects the appearance of those it encounters, its form varies depending on who stands before the Gate. Truth also mirrors the speech patterns and mannerisms of those it meets, representing its nature as One, All, Universe, God, and Truth itself. It serves as a reflection of the alchemists who commit the taboo.
Truth presents itself as sadistic and cruel, but fair and wise in its rationality. Each transgression is punished by the loss of whatever the transgressor values most. Its presence serves as punishment for the ultimate transgression of human transmutation. Truth always acts according to what it perceives as fair exchange and will take from offenders by force if necessary. It holds no bias, opinion, or prejudice, viewing all who break the laws of alchemy as equal in their offenses and therefore deserving of equal retribution through the loss of what they hold dear.
Above all, Truth aims to uphold the laws that bind the universe and punishes any who attempt to perform acts that cannot or should not occur. Its seeming malice is ultimately a lesson: Truth seeks to teach humanity that alchemy is not everything, and that its practitioners must not view themselves as superior to others. This arrogance, born from the belief that one can control life and death, is the ultimate hubris behind all human transmutation. Life and death are to be accepted, not manipulated.
Truth, in its actions, visual representation, and stated purpose, exists to show that those who abuse their great power ultimately harm themselves.

- #49Heinkelselective
Keys: Heinkel, Lion King
Heinkel is a soldier in the Amestrian State Military and one of the four Human Chimera commissioned to bodyguard and report to Solf J. Kimblee during the State Alchemist's mission to the northern area of Amestris. Through a series of occurrences, however, Heinkel will end up in the company of Edward Elric and his allies along with his partner Darius. AGE: 40s APPEARANCE: Heinkel is a fair-skinned, tall, muscular man with a mustache, slicked blond hair and oval glasses. He has wrinkles on his forehead and laugh lines on his nose. He has no visible eyebrows. His Chimera form is a humanoid lion, gaining a large main, claws, and an overall more muscular body. PERSONALITY: A quiet, practical man, Heinkel is somewhat of a go-with-the-flow kind of individual. He does not seem to have any real ambitions in life and is rather content with following others, though he is not blindingly loyal. Although originally part of the military, he is quick to change sides when others treated him better and is able to recognize the scale and severity of the dangers that faced his country. Although he is a chimera, he has no real issues with this fact and even sees it as a benefit. Like his partner Darius, he trusts his "animal instincts" and oftentimes behaves on hunches, doing what he feels his senses tell him in the moment. ABILITIES: Heinkel is a human-based chimera and can transform into a lion-man in battle, which gives him the corresponding advantages of a lion (a powerful bite, claws, animal senses, etc). This form also provides him with superhuman strength, allowing him to destroy rocks with a single punch, as well as enabling him to hold his own against Homunculi. Out of all the chimera, he possess some of the greatest senses for low-visibility combat. He can identify his enemies even in the thickest snow field and Darius once noted that as a nocturnal animal he had superior night vision. His enhanced senses can backfire though, as his enhanced sense of smell can be overwhelmed given specific circumstances. Interestingly, he does not appear to need to use his glasses while in chimera-form.

Keys: Darius, Mr. Gorilla
Darius is a soldier in the Amestrian State Military and one of the four Human Chimera commissioned to bodyguard and report to Solf J. Kimblee during the State Alchemist's mission to the northern area of Amestris. Through a series of occurrences, however, Darius will eventually end up in the company of Edward Elric and his allies along with his partner Heinkel. AGE: 30-40s APPEARANCE: Darius is a tall, tanned, well-built muscular man with flat, short dark brown hair and sideburns that turn into mutton chops. He has no visible eyebrows and dark pupils. In his Chimera form, he has the appearance of a gorilla, albeit much more humanoid and bipedal. PERSONALITY: A serious individual, Darius and his partner are very similar. Both are quick to change loyalties, both have little issues with being chimera, and both have a dry, cynical attitude. As a human-based chimera, Darius is very in-tune with his "animal instincts", following his feelings whenever he does not know what to do. Still, if the situation calls for it, he may to ignore such instincts. Even though he is somewhat sarcastic and gruff, Darius appears to be overall happy with his life, sharing that he values having true friendships and companions that he can rely on. He enjoys being a chimera and the advantages that come with it, and seems to have an overall positive outlook on life. ABILITIES: Darius is a chimera fused with a gorilla. As such, he has the ability to morph into a more muscular version of himself with simian-like features. This form grants Darius, super-enhanced strength allowing him to tear a large chunk of concrete up and throw it a considerable distance. He has solid durability, such as allowing him to be bitten by a homunculus soldier with no injury. He is agile and has heightened senses, particularly in the case of smell. Even in his default form, Darius has immense strength, as is fairly intelligent (but apparently not as much as Heinkel).
