From the Fathom Deep... She Rises -

Aardria — Queen of the Fathom Deep

Age: 31

Title: Queen of the Fathom Deep

Domain: The Fathom Deep, Mariana Trench

Alignment: Neutral Evil

Power Source: Fathom Aegis — Dark Energy

Primary Rivals: Arthur Curry / Aquaman and Namor

Description

Aardria is the 31-year-old sovereign of the Fathom Deep, an ancient abyssal civilization hidden within the most inaccessible reaches of the Mariana Trench. Long before surface nations understood what lay beneath their oceans, her people built an empire in crushing darkness.

Aardria is not human, Atlantean, or mutant. She belongs to an ancient abyssal lineage adapted to depths where ordinary life cannot survive. Her blue-gray skin possesses a subtle metallic iridescence, her eyes glow molten gold in darkness, and the crownlike fins emerging from her head are natural markers of her royal bloodline.

She rules through the Fathom Aegis, an ancient manifestation of Dark Aegis energy that bonded itself to her bloodline generations ago. Unlike conventional Aegis artifacts, the Fathom Aegis does not take the form of a ring. Its power has become biologically integrated into Aardria herself.

Through it, she commands abyssal hydrokinesis, pressure manipulation, dark-energy projection, oceanic telepathy, supernatural durability, accelerated healing, and control over creatures dwelling in the deepest oceans. She can generate crushing pressure fields capable of destroying reinforced structures, extinguish light across vast underwater regions, and transform seawater into dark-energy constructs.

The deeper she descends, the stronger she becomes.

At the bottom of the Mariana Trench, Aardria is terrifyingly close to unstoppable.

Personality Aardria is regal, calculating, sensual, territorial, patient, and profoundly arrogant. She rarely raises her voice because she has spent her entire life surrounded by people who understand that disobedience carries consequences. Her evil is not chaotic. It is imperial. Aardria does not desire destruction for its own sake. She wants sovereignty without limitation. In her worldview, morality is an invention created by weaker civilizations to restrain those powerful enough to rule them. She can nevertheless be diplomatic, generous, even protective. Subjects who remain loyal to her can enjoy remarkable prosperity. She honors bargains when doing so strengthens her reputation and occasionally demonstrates genuine affection toward those she considers hers. But Aardria's morality ends precisely where her interests begin. She will manipulate alliances, sacrifice political enemies, unleash sea creatures against populated coastlines, or drown an enemy fleet without remorse if doing so protects the Fathom Deep. Her deepest psychological motivation is sovereignty. Aardria cannot tolerate being subordinate to anyone—not Arthur, not Namor, not surface governments, and certainly not another Aegis bearer. Arthur represents everything she despises: a monarch who believes tremendous power creates moral obligations. Namor irritates her for a different reason. He thinks the oceans belong to him. Aardria considers that almost adorable.
