Frieren is the main protagonist of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. She is an exceptionally powerful elven mage who once served as the Mage of the legendary Hero Party alongside Himmel the Hero, Eisen the Warrior, and Heiter the Priest.

The Hero Party spent ten years traveling across the continent before ultimately defeating the Demon King. To Frieren, however, those ten years felt remarkably short due to her vastly longer elven lifespan.

After Himmel's death, Frieren began to realize how little she truly understood about the humans she had traveled with. Wanting to understand them better—and eventually reunite with Himmel—she embarked on another journey with Fern and Stark, traveling toward Aureole, the resting place where she hopes to speak with Himmel once again.

Frieren is generally calm, stoic, carefree, and somewhat aloof. She rarely shows strong emotions and often approaches situations with a relaxed attitude, even when surrounded by danger.

Her extremely long lifespan gives her a completely different perception of time compared to humans. Years, decades, and even centuries can feel brief to her. Because of this, she has historically struggled to understand how quickly human relationships develop and fade.

She once considered the Hero Party's ten-year journey to be relatively short and believed she barely knew Himmel despite traveling alongside him for an entire decade. It was only after his death that she realized how important those memories actually were.

Since then, Frieren has made a conscious effort to understand humans and form deeper emotional connections with them.

Despite her normally emotionless demeanor, Frieren is far from emotionless.

The Hero Party

More than a thousand years ago, Frieren became a mage and eventually encountered Flamme, the legendary human mage who became her teacher.

After years of training, Frieren continued developing her magical abilities and eventually became the mage of Himmel's Hero Party.

Together, Frieren, Himmel, Eisen, and Heiter traveled for ten years, eventually defeating the Demon King.

Following their victory, the party separated.

Frieren continued living her solitary life while occasionally meeting her former companions.

However, because of her elven lifespan, she underestimated how quickly human lives would pass.

When Himmel eventually died of old age, Frieren was shocked by how deeply his death affected her.

His funeral became a turning point in her life.

Frieren realized that she had never truly taken the time to understand Himmel or the other humans around her.

This led her toward her current journey.

Frieren now travels alongside Fern and Stark.

Her ultimate destination is Aureole, where she hopes to meet Himmel once again and finally have the opportunity to speak with him.
